Wonder if that same package could net us Nelson and Nurkic. Figure Gallo has a higher price tag than Nurkic at this point.
Yep but he still plays in a spot we don't really need to upgrade right now...same argument you can make about Gay, we need a big and/or a pg first and foremost, not another bench player to eat Dekker's minutes and which is going to burn 12 million in cap space for 2/3 years...unless he's not coming for Brewer and KJ...but you know that's not going to happen.
You ever watch the Rockets and feel like stabbing yourself in the eyes with ballpoint pens when Ariza puts the ball on the floor? Yeah... imagine if that was Wilson Chandler putting it on the floor instead.
Not only that, imagine a small ball lineup of: Anderson Chandler Ariza Gordon Harden Or being able to limit Ariza to ~30 minutes per game
Aaron Gordon is a better option than Wilson Chandler, all things being equal. He can put ball on the floor plus lock down 3 positions.
Can the Hawks trade Mike Dunleavy right now? Brewer, KJ, Ennis, 2017 1st for Dunleavy and Splitter. We finally get rid of Brewer, get some 3rd string safety with Dunleavy/Splitter. We lose the pick but it's a sh*tty pick anyway. I'd rather keep the 2 2nd's than the 26th pick frankly. We're always going to have to pay someone to take Brewer, remember that. Might as well get half a season's worth of depth in the process. Trade opens up a roster spot. Sign Chalmers or Jarrett Jack and we're geared up for one playoff push. Also for those thinking the Hawks would do this without the pick, there is no reason they will let go of two expiring contracts while rebuilding and take back Corey Brewer without being compensated. I think they would do it for 2 2nd rounders, but again I think we're better off keeping the 2 2nds than the first. Maybe they throw in a 2nd rounder? I don't know. It's not sexy, but the reality is we're not going to get a good player on a good contract without giving up a rotation player and the chemistry with this rotation is toooo good to f*ck with unless we're getting something SERIOUS back. With this kind of trade you do a little bit to support the coach/team seeing as they've put together an incredible season thus far. Give them some back up. And our cap situation looks fantastic going forward.
Yes, it just needs to be a separate transaction without Splitter. CBA FAQ #100 teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances: For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries.
http://www.denverstiffs.com/2017/1/...ping-jusuf-nurkic-and-others-danilo-gallinari We should acquire Nurkic, who is a legit 7 footer, big body, solid rebounding and rim protection, can guard guys like Kanter, Gasol, etc.
You're not trading a 1st for Dunleavy and Splitter. You're trading the 26th pick in the draft to get rid of Corey Brewer's contract (opening up $7.5m in cap space this summer) and renting Splitter/Dunleavy for when injuries happen. I know you're thinking Cleveland got Korver for a first, but it's not a similar first, and Corey Brewer is not as good as an expiring contract. So if you want to get a decent asset back for a pick, you have two options: 1) Keep Corey Brewer. Only trade KJ and Ennis, which means you limit yourself to contracts worth up to about $5m. Essentially useless. Those are rookie scale contracts, and no one will trade us a decent rookie for the 26th pick. 2) You mess with the core. We all want to get a positive out of our pick, but we have a negative on our roster. We got to make the best of it. This type of trade helps us a bit now, and guarantees our ability to strike in the trade/FA market in the summer. Very important to acknowledge: our first rounder sucks because we are awesome, and we will have to pay someone to take Corey Brewer off our hands if we are to add anything of very good value to this roster whether now or in the summer. We can't escape that. Otherwise you stand pat but I think it would be a shame to wait 4 months and then look back and wonder if it would've helped to solidify the depth of a team showing so much promise. I would love to have Splitter available for 15 minutes a night, and Dunleavy taking Brewer's minutes and even filling in a little when Bev goes down. I feel your lack of excitement though. But good to keep in mind that this is the case because we have a roster that makes you think twice about fiddling too much. There are much worse situations to be in! We all went through last season.
Jusuf Nurkic would be a perfect get for the Rockets if we only ship out KJ/Brewer + a protected pick.
I think we should absolutely look to trade for Hardaway Jr. Expiring contract. Slasher. Excellent energy off the bench. Can take the pressure off EG to score when that second unit comes in. I think Brewer/KJ + 2nd could get it done. Maybe throw in another 2nd + Wiltjer and get Muscala.
Not Rockets related, but: PHI gets: Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier CHI gets: Jaylen Brown, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Nets 1st (unprotected), 2 BOS 1sts BOS gets: Jimmy Butler, Nerlens Noel. That puts BOS cap around 60MM. With offseason cap rising above 100MM, sign Hayward (reunite with Stevens), and fill in the gaps. NASTY starting lineup: Isiah Thomas Jimmy Butler Gordon Hayward Al Horford Nerlens Noel
Guys, please understand Brewer's contract value. He takes up $7.5m that you could potentially pay to a productive player and a roster spot that can be used on a developing prospect or someone who can actually contribute. This is almost completely objective. It's not optimistic or pessimistic. Based on trades that have happened with similar contracts over years in the NBA: 1) Brewer's contract alone is a proper negative. 2) Brewer and a second rounder is somewhat negative, approaching neutral. 3) Corey Brewer and a late first rounder is worth... literally... nothing. Brewer and our pick (likely 26th) gets a team to absorb the contract for its duration and give you NOTHING in return except an expiring contract of a player that garners little interest in the league OR a traded player exceptionthat you can use to then acquire a player making at most $7.5m. So when you say Brewer and a second rounder for so and so player, you have to understand that the other team would feel like it is overpaying you if they gave you NOTHING, nevermind ADDING a player you feel could give depth to a contender. For example, we’ve heard the Hawks want 2 2nd rounders for Tim Hardaway. Which they probably won’t get. So let’s say his real value is one good second rounder, which we have. Now, a second rounder for Hardaway is part one. You want to match salaries by sending them Brewer and they throw in fillers from their side. The mere fact that you are including Brewer means you HAVE TO ADD - if the Hawks are desperate and haven’t gotten what they wanted - you have to add ANOTHER good 2nd rounder just because of Brewer. So you would be sending basically 2 picks in the 30-35 range and Brewer for Tim Hardaway and that would be a steal and it would only happen if the Hawks fail to get the value they’re seeking. They would wait till the final seconds of the deadline before pulling the trigger on something like that. It's not a thing Morey could just get done. It's the kind of deal where Morey says "this offer is on the table, if you change your mind call us." In the meantime if someone offered them the 31st pick for Hardaway straight up, they probably go for that deal over ours. It is annoying because Brewer doesn’t even make THAT much but he is total dead weight at this point in his career. We’re a good enough team for it not to matter that much, but just in the small universe of trades, that’s the reality of what Brewer’s contract means. If Morey is able to do better than what eeeeeveryone else has done in a similar situation in the past, I would be shocked.
@Mathloom makes a good point. It's also important to remember that both ennis and KJ are little more than expiring contracts at this point/filer. We likely aren't getting anything of real value for them, short of Morey pulling a rabbit out of thin air (which he has done before with guys like Lowry)
Kyle O'Quinn would be nice, he reminds of Chuck Hayes. But with Noah stinking it up this season, I doubt they want to move him.
