I would be more upset if they fired Crennel. O'Brien and Rick Smith are both about middle of the pack in the league in their positions. They've had some great moments and then some really dumb ones. Romeo, on the other hand, is top five.
It makes sense... he's a commanding figure, has always gotten his teams to play hard, has a solid pedigree, has a very good coaching staff tree that has zero ties to Houston other than him, and at the end of the day (in this results only league), no losing seasons, on teams with major injuries, is an accomplishment. If both Rick Smith and BOB were let go tomorrow, who would have a job first? That should be the guy the Texans try to keep if any.
If we keep winning, he's going to be gone before we get a chance to contact him. The HC search this year is pretty underwhelming
Perhaps there will be a "football life" episode in 2027 regarding BOB's time with the Texans... much like how they had one on Belichick's time with the Browns in the early 90's.
I think i would give him one more year considering the multiple injuries and first year for Osweiler. It's going to be very intersting to see what they do with Osweiler in the offseason though, I can only imagine they are going to give him another shot considering the financial commitment they made.
I would too but what if hypothetically the Texans could get a third rounder for O'Brien and the next coach ran an offense that Oz was more comfortable with and he became an average to slightly above average qb (which is probably his ceiling at this point). Would it be worth to lose him?
If the Texans beat the Raiders and BOB decides to leave will there be any good head coaching options left on the market? Texans would probably have to settle for some 2nd rate assistant coach... or bring in Jeff Fisher.
Really hope Bob makes the right decision and parts ways with Rick Smith. I don't want to lose the defensive coaches, and I think they'll follow OB wherever he goes. I would also hope Cal or Bob have a conversation with OB about hiring an elite OC, and continue searching for a QB.
Probably another O'Brien leak. His offense has been underwhelming (to put it mildly) and getting worse. That's not even getting into the carousels, the playing players our of position resulting in injuries, the challenge flag and timeout mishaps, and now the drama with management
If that's the main reason for anyone to retain Bob as the head coach for next season, well then that exactly explained how bad he failed on his job.
