I'm sure we could put our minds together and come up with something.

Called United again, and they had their systems updated with the waiver so there is no change fee. I just changed my flight to tomorrow just before noon still out of FLL. Hopefully the airport is up and running by then. They guy told me the morning flights out of Miami Airport were already fully booked. Good luck!

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to do a shooting in the post-security section of the airport. Sure, there's still plenty of people there. But you could go to a mall for the same opportunity and fewer cops. I guess you do get the benefit of wall-to-wall press coverage.

Not familiar with firearm laws and airplanes, but apparently you can check a gun in your checked bags. Does it have to be unloaded at the time, and can you pack the gun, extra magazines, extra ammo in the same bag? Is this significantly safer than letting someone simply carry guns through the TSA protected parts of airports?

They've identified the shooter - Estaban Santiago. He was allegedly on a flight from Alaska and had a military ID. He had checked his baggage in which he'd checked a firearm (pistol). This has been legal since 1968. He went into a bathroom, loaded up the pistol, came out and started shooting. He reloaded 3 times. When done, he dropped the gun and surrendered to police. I repeat: the shooter was taken alive and is in custody. He shot 13 people with 5 confirmed dead. Absolute panic in airport with the entire facility evacuated. There were scores of people on the tarmac and runways. No call yet on this being a terrorist act.

I'm guessing you have to collect it at the security office, not on the regular baggage claim.
Probably just snapped. Floridians tends to do that.

Why are you allowed to even check a gun on a flight....? I'm fine with checking guns, but you shouldn't be able to check compatible ammo...

Buy it when you get there.

Why was the guy allowed to surrender?

Someone like that should not be allowed to surrender. The second his hands go up, every officer in sight should unload their clips into him. EFF that guy.

Can't do that. Then we are just as bad as him...imagine if there were kids watching, it's bad enough but to smoke a guy like that...it's turned into Robocop then...

Instead, he gets to spend years rotting away with three hots and a cot, while we pay for all of that and countless appeals before he reaches a "humane" unnatural death.

No. Screw that. Cut out that humanity and the taxpayers dollars and off the scum. You think it's going to affect the children seeing a murderer get capped like he deserves? Maybe it will. It will instill in them that they shouldn't murder.

Guy doesn't deserve to be alive. An eye for an eye if a crime is literally witnessed by hundreds.

I'm all for law and order, but not when it comes to violent crime and domestic terrorism.

Assuming this is indeed a case of terrorism, I tend to think a terrorist captured alive is more valuable than a dead one.

Sorry to hear that. Honestly, I'm not holding my breath that the airport will be up and running by my flight anyway.

Oh well, the important thing is that that we're safe.
