The Texans were losing 14-0 at the half. What I read was ..."You'll notice 4 DB's" three of whom are practice squad fodder. ..."you'll notice the starting center" who was an unproven rookie; how'd the last 2nd round rookie OL fare under BOB? ..."you'll notice 2 WR's who were going to be important pieces in the offense" - they combined to play 18 games and caught 29 passes; they were not remotely important when healthy. ..."you'll notice the starting right tackle, oh and you'll notice the best defensive player in the NFL." both significant; Watt big time, obviously. So... they lost two significant pieces (+ Johnson - but they had the depth to absorb that one). I listed five much better playoff teams that also dealt with severe injury (or missed time) situations; you're acting like injuries are the exclusive domain of the Texans.
O Brien attitude won't work for this organization. Texans like good guys who are bff with the players. Rick Smith is also never going to get fired. So if BOB leaves, next coach will fail. Rick Smith has got to leave with BOB.
FA/Trades isn't the best place to get QBs though. Nobody worthwhile is ever available. If there was some franchise QB out there, sure. Tyrod Taylor is one of the few I can remember that might have been worth making for a QB trade in the last couple of years. I'm not entirely sure why the Texans haven't drafted any QBs aside from Savage though.
How soon we forget... Don't y'all know that a Texans HC has to go 2-14 in order to get fired? McNair thinks 9-7 seasons are the equivalent of winning the Super Bowl. If BOB leaves, it'll be on his own accord.
He's under contract, he can't really leave on his own unless he doesn't want to coach in the NFL again.
Would be the most Texans thing ever to trade for him and he completely craps the bed. Wish they would have taken him at the top of the second in '14
I'll add Munchak to the list of names I would like to see as OC They would still need a QB coach though
The fact that Smith nor Mcnair hasn't come out and denied it and BOB's non denial when asked at the press conference adds that there is a validity to this right?
I was thinking the same thing. Usually McNair will come out and address stuff like this. Maybe he is not doing so this time, because there is a playoff game this week.
Could be a BS rumor. McNair may not want to confirm or deny all of the rumors bouncing around on The InterWebs.
Nah, you don't address every non-story that gets hyped up by the media. If you did, it would just be a distraction.
Which is why I'm almost positive this is a BS story, similar to the story about BOB leaving the Texans for the Maryland job last season.
I don't see BOB walking away with 2 years left on his contract. If he leaves, it'll be by way of a mutual agreement, which makes a trade one option. Just looking at all the potential coaching vacancies, MIN and BUF look like a good fits for BOB. Both have strong defenses already, and could allow him to toy with some good offensive pieces already in place. We'd probably waste the picks regardless, but a trade would be interesting to see happen.
" And they’ve found a way to patch it together with low-round draft picks" Because they traded 5 picks for Nix and Strong and have generally been careless with picks "and undrafted free agents" Because they spent all their money on Brock
