Any time you can bring in a Chris Bosh to join your hometown star in Wade is a good start. Add to that, The King also joined them en route to 2 Chips. Thats pretty impressive. That trumps whatever Morey has done as of yet.
We love you tinman, but Lebron gets credit for putting together the Heat championship team, not Riley.
Ridiculous. Switch Houston for Miami and Riles, who I like, would NEVER have had the success he's had.
I stumbled on this searching for a comparison of Les and Cuban that I swear I commented on but couldn't find it. Without the benefit of three in prime superstars deciding to team up together, Morey has put together a damn good run of success. His teams haven't reached the ultimate prize yet and that is of course the most important thing, but I find it silly that anyone argues against him as a team builder still. Basically had 1 year that was a "bust" year (last year). Outside of that, barring health collapses, he's put together one of the most competitive teams in the West pretty consistently.
Riley "dangled" his Dwayne Wade in order to attract Bosh who then attracted Lebron. This is why the Rockets are trying to dangle Corey Brewer right now.
I have no idea why I am responded to a thread started a year ago but Riley has rings as a coach with the Lakers and went to the Finals with the Knicks. He is respected for that reason. Morey never played or coached and thus has an obvious downside compared to Riley. But that doesn't make him any worse of a GM. When it all comes down to it, a player may view Morey as another stop on a recruiting tour but then hear Riley's name and remember his childhood of hearing his name multiple times being mentioned with great players.
Listen, and understand. That tinman is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever.
Riley inherited Wade and the heat did a good job flipping assets to get Shaq. The lebron thing was pure luck and right place right time.
