Please no. I've watched more of Hollis Thompson than anyone should ever have to, and I'm telling you he hasn't gotten one bit better at ANYTHING since he came into the league. He can knock down standstill, catch-and-shoot threes. That's it.

In four years Thompson's never learned how to move without the ball, he's never learned how to make a timely defensive rotation, and he's never learned any skills off the dribble. He's built like a wing, but moves his feet like a big (and not a quick big). It's possible that he's been a victim of the process and Philly's losing culture, but at 25 there's very little room for growth in his game.

Why would they release their leading 3pt shooter for the past 3 seasons on a tiny contract?

    Must be a trade coming.

Who needs growth? Sucks at everything else but hits 40% of his 3's = better than at least 2 players on our roster.

I'm telling you he wouldn't be a rotation player here. Outside of shooting and defensive rebounding he does EVERYTHING worse than Brewer. You don't potentially mess with a 27-9 team's chemistry just to maybe, marginally improve the end of your bench. This isn't fantasy league.

The Sixers released him because he sucks.

    As of today, Thompson is listed at 36.6 3P% (26 3PM, 71 3PA).

Losing Brewer would have no impact on chemistry at all, he only plays more than 10 minutes if we have an injury. He's just being showcased in the hopes we can trade him imo.

    Seriously, your description:

"Outside of shooting and defensive rebounding he does EVERYTHING worse than Brewer."

... is making me want the guy even more. I understand the guy wouldn't be a rotation player here, but Brewer is no longer an NBA rotation player in my eyes. If he were an FA right now, he would struggle to get a minimum contract on a completely healthy NBA team.

I have faaaaaar greater faith in a guy who shoots 40% and is a decent defensive rebounder turning into a servicable player after leaving a team that has not won 40 games in the 4 years he's been there. He has had one coach, one NBA team, and it is possibly the worst 4 seasons any player has ever had in terms of winning culture. You must admit, there is a possibility that a change of coach/system/team might turn him into someone you can throw onto the floor for 10-15 minutes. It's really not as far fetched as Brewer becoming a meaningful member of this team.

Be honest: you haven't watched a single minute of Hollis Thompson playing basketball, have you?

Yup, this would be his worst ever season. He's hit 39% of 900+ 3's in his career. He hit 38% of 5 attempts last season. He's obviously an excellent 3pt shooter. According to @dharocks he's a particularly good catch and shoot 3pt shooter.

Thompson's a decent defensive rebounder because he's really a crappy four being asked to play as a really crappy 3. He's significantly worse than Robert Covington, remember him?

It's insanity to me that you guys want Philly's scraps.

I didn't say that at all. I said it's the only thing he can do.

    Of course, never.

But I have watched every single minute of Corey Brewer playing basketball for the Rockets and that's what's important here.

I can tell you've spent many a game cussing at this guy. If the only thing he can do is catch and shoot 3pters, and he shoots 39% of a pretty high volume for his career, then he is objectively good at that.

[Philly.com - Keith Pompey] re: why Thompson was waived...
"The move gives the Sixers an open roster spot. They will likely use it to address their need at point guard. T.J. McConnell was the team's lone healthy point guard in the last two games.
The Sixers could sign a player to a 10-day contract on Thursday. They also could put in a waiver claim for a player released from another team."

Was the timing just wrong, or do they want bigger fish than Lapro? ...

We should go after Sean Kilpatrick as a 4th combo guard Bev/Gordon/harden insurance.

I think Brooklyn is a good team to trade with in general, they need to rebuild, are trying to install the 3's and layups system and have given up all their picks. High 2nd round picks and players like KJ, Ennis, and Wiltjer who are young with upside and have learned in this system will be of more value to them then most other teams. Joe Harris wouldn't be bad off our bench either.

How about Brewer McDaniels for Deron Williams? No use for him in Dallas, Bev insurance, and can lead the offense when Harden sits.
