Just some historical perspective, Sean Elliot and Horry. Barkley for other Rockets for 4 rockets which included Cassel and Horry.
Honestly everyone keeps saying this but I'm not completely sure why. Bev and Arias would have trade value. Gordon's value has probably gone up since this off-season with the way he has been shooting. Capela, Harrell and Dekker would have value especially with how young they are. So we do have some players that other teams would want. And if the right deal came up maybe it would be worth it to lose one or two of them to make a trade happen. The problem with it is all of those guys have been important to how good we have been and are key pieces in our rotation so if we did trade we would need to be for a player that would fill the space that the outgoing player(s) leave
just bring us Kyle Korver or any other elite 3pt shooter, we already have the best player in the league, to make it really easy for him
Well we're looking for a star right? Because trading role players who are perfect for us for other role players doesn't make sense. So we need assets that can get us a star: very high draft pick or a very young guy with a lot of upside. I don't think Bev and Ariza do it, but maybe capela and Dekker? What got us Harden was that high pick from Toronto. The other way is to sign guys in free agency which would require trading guys to make room.
Going all in this year to me is not going for a star. You can't get a star without giving up multiple rotation pieces which means you are trying to win next year. Going all in THIS year means doing what Morey has constantly shown a reluctance to do, which is give up picks and flexibility to add actual role players, not just scrubs you are hoping to get something out of. Trading for guys like Korver, Barbosa, etc. is going on all like in past years when we could have added guys like Humphries, or Bass, etc. Guys that aren't superstars but give you quality minutes at backup spots. Most of the time we make trades it's for scrubs that cost us basically nothing that we are just hoping give us a couple of good games.
My idea of "all in" is adding without taking away too much from the current rotation. My expendables are:Chinanu/Ennis/Bobby Brown/Dekker/Brewer. Replacing Brewer, Dekker and Harrell with Korver, Dudley and Noel is a series of moves I wouldn't mind. A fairly significant upgrade to the bench that won't cost more than a first round pick and some seconds while leaving some young talent in Noel.
Eh? None of those guys have much trade value. The most expensive piece there is dumping Brewer's bad contract.
I think those are lateral moves at best . Dudley and korver are no doubt better shooters than Dekker and Brewer , but neither of them can play defense at the same level and do they move off ball as well? Noel to Harrell is interesting because sure Noel has talent but harrel has actually produced more lately .. Sure you can extrapolate Noel playing with harden but who knows ... Theoretically Dwight should have clicked with harden too . Don't mess up the chemistry for a marginal at best upgrade to role players ... And you are also losing future potential with Dekker+Harrell > Dudley+ Noel .
