Can someone explain to me these two comments from DMo? Isn't this a straight contradiction. Morey never released any statement to the media other than the renouncement with no reason, and he states that. Why would DMo also say "all what showed up in the media was from the team." Sounds to me like he's spinning the truth here. Is he mixing up in his mind the Detroit void and this one? btw: I guess his promise of an exclusive interview with Joel Blank covers only the US media.
It will be interesting to see what the actual truth of the situation is and how things went down. My main concern is that Morey DID try to screw over DMO or negotiated in a way that was unfair (not saying he did--just concerned he might have). Morey and the Rockets organization already have a reputation for treating players like 'assets' and it has certainly rubbed some of them the wrong way (Asik situation, other free agents spurning the organization, etc.) --I just hope that doesn't impact future opportunities for free agents to join the Rockets and/or impact chemistry with current players. Legit concern if an organization has a reputation of not treating players fairly or 'with respect' to use the NBA parlance. Also, in before the "but all these players make millions of dollars to pay a child's game so they should just build a bridge and get over it" comments. I get that--just this is an alternate reality where everyone wins the lottery.
Ah, come on. The "Asik situation" was him being pissed we signed Dwight Howard and losing his starting role. It was widely reported and confirmed by Morey that Asik demanded a trade 11 games into the season. Morey did *not* want to trade him. But McHale no longer wanted to start him after Morey landed Dwight Howard. Also note that Morey did him a huge solid by trading him to a rival who should have been a perfect fit for him playing with a high post, face-the-basket superstar PF. They were going to be a defensive juggernaut, remember? But alas, he's once again losing his starting role...and probably whining about it again, too.
How could Morey have screwed DMo specifically? As far as I know he abided by the CBA and all other rules related to RFA.
DMo should stop blaming the Rox and FIRE HIS AGENT IMMEDIATELY! BJ butchered this situation by not asking for exactly what he wanted and getting an iron clad agreement. BJ then doubled the damage by not having a contingency plan for his client. In an off-season where stupid money was flying around, BJ managed to get his 26 year old seven footer a VET MINIMUM DEAL! UNFORGIVABLE! If DMO goes back into free agency next year with BJ as his agent then he is a fool. He should cut his losses with BJ and seek new representation.
Well... One thing came of this whole DMo fiasco... We found out at least a couple regular and longtime posters here on CF spew nothing but nonsensical crap and have been shown to reside so far from reality that their opinions can just be ignored going forward... It's a pity really...
I'm not say he did or didn't..but perception is reality in the league. DMO obviously thinks he was wronged, slighted, and/or screwed. Morey couldv'e told him to go f himself, the rules are the rules and thats legit--but as a player, being 'treated' well by an organization etc. plays a role. All I'm saying. Doesn't matter if Morey is the nicest, fairest guy of all time if the rest of the league doesn't think so--its just the perception I wonder about since it is a topic that has come up repeatedly with 'assets' etc. In the end, I'm sure Morey did the right thing per the CBA--clearly DMO disagrees.
I take it that the first comment simply means the media only reported the Rockets' side of the story. The second comment means he was not told by the Rockets why they released him. Both could be true to a certain extent. But if the Rockets really did not tell him the reason (which I found very strange), then it could mean that this story has not ended.
The perception is that DMo is dumb and had multiple opportunities to receive more than what he got. Just because DMo feels he was wronged doesn't mean the perception is that Morey is wrong. The reality is that when players are injured, 9 times out of 10, it's taken into account when its time for a new contract. The Rockets were obligated and willing to pay DMo $4million+ for a chance he wasn't going to be able to play. He chose not to accept that. The players union hasn't come out publicly in support of DMo. They represent him too.
That, and I think the predominant perception is that DMo's back is not to be trusted to last for a long career. This, to me, is the biggest problem DMo needs to deal with, not how the Rockets treated him. And the only way he can remove that perception is by playing. If he does not know that, then he is truly dumb. If he knows that but pretends to be otherwise, then he is worse than dumb.
It was reported that bridges were burnt heavily when the org tried to ship him to Motor city. Sure a business deal but from then on Dmo did not exactly love Houston.
Didn't DMo say he understood the trade to Detroit? He seemed to take it all pretty well. If anything, he would have been upset at the Pistons for so publicly showing concern with his health. And even if DMo was upset, that's not the same as him being screwed.
That is why I was pointing out there were misunderstandings .... I do not think Morey would screw anyone, except for other GMs. (I think it was really a bizarre narrative. I still do not understand it all) There were tons of speculation but we can assume that both parties were bargaining hard for what they wanted. Not sure why Dmo was against playing couple of years for the Rockets. But that is his story to tell.
Next game against the Pelicans is February 23rd. Tip Jar bet says DMo will get a DNP because he got injured, again, and can't exact his revenge on Houston.
Not sure how many people will be comfortable with winning a bet based on hoping player X gets injured.
