Which is why I have been harping for Tyson Chandler almost nonstop since the beginning of December.
Great rebounded. (top 10 rpg in only 27mpg)
Great defender. (Blocks don't mean everything)
Fantastic at PnR. (Has experience in MDAs system)
    Super efficient. (ts%.706)
Great veteran and locker room presence. (won a chip and won't disturb chemistry, likely accepts bench role)

Literally the only downside is his contract. Not the amount per dollars, because he is adequately paid under the new cba, but the length of contract, which is only 2 years after this one.

If we could agree to some type of agreement to make the last year NG or somehow both then I say do what it takes to get him.

There is something about this season that feels special. If we could cash in all our assets outside of our rotation (kj/gentile/onuaku/2nd/2nd/1st) and land korver and Tyson, I think we could win it all this year. I understand waiting for a "star" but everything about this year screams go for it.

    Kj/gentile/2nd for korver

    Brewer/ennis/1st for tyson/ulis

    Harden/bev
    Gordon/korver
    Ariza/dekker
    Ryno/montrezl
    Capela/chandler

    NeNe
    Ulis
    Wiltjer
    Onuaku
    Brown

Is a team I think has the ability to win it all.

4-team trade - see above quoted references
Magic in: Rudy Gay, Darren Collison, Ben McLemore
Rockets in: Tyson Chandler, Elfrid Payton
Suns in: Nikola Vucevic, Corey Brewer
Kings in: Brandon Knight, Mario Hezonja, KJ McDaniels

Could be delayed until Rudy Gay is healthy again (hip flexor strain) and Ty Lawson recovers from sinus fracture.

After last night, I like the idea of trading Brewer for Markieff. They make similar salaries and although we don't get the rim protector we want, this dude can
    - guard 1-4 positions (one on one)
    - can hit the 3
    - pick an pop (mid range)
    - good rebounder
    - can post up

It doesn't break the bank and we don't have to lose any other player. The only question is if he will be happy to come of the bench

Other than it being extremely difficult for 4 teams to all agree on a trade this seems fair for everyone. Would likely take some picks being tossed around, likely from Houston.

I would be quite happy with this return, although it would make us thin at the wing. But if you could couple whatever picks/rights left with ennis for a backup wing I think this would be great.

Korver has the 3 (although been in a real shooting slump this season so far) but not the D required in back up wing. And at age 35, he may have to get Nene treatment to maximize his efficiency. Rockets need a young lockdown perimeter defender more than they need added offense.

But a true rim protecting 5 is the greater need.

Things have changed. Payton has been having some GREAT games the last couple of weeks. Doubt he's available anymore and especially for crap back.
Plus Aaron Gordon has been showing signs of great shooting and that he can still be back on the road of "stardom".

[Orlando Sentinel - December 24, 2016] Magic need more consistency from Elfrid Payton
"He just played the whole game with confidence," Magic coach Frank Vogel said after the Magic won 109-90. "Getting to the basket, the pull-up game and then the weak side catch-and-shoot 3s — that's part of our vision of who he can be."

Whether Payton will consistently fulfill that vision is one of the most critical questions the Magic face. Vogel moved him into a reserve role on Nov. 27 as part of a larger lineup change. Payton continues to play heavy minutes, but having him come off the bench speaks volumes about where he stands midway through his third NBA season.

Although Payton has improved in some areas — including his decision-making on when to drive to the hoop and how he finishes at the rim — he has not made the progress Magic officials hoped for him when they traded for his draft rights on draft day in 2014.

The Magic are combing the trade market in search of scoring, and it would not be a surprise if the team is attempting to upgrade at point guard.

Why do you keep insisting he isn't shooting well?

Sure he isn't shooting 50% like 2 years ago but is still shooting at an elite .414% from 3, and that's at 5.1 attempts per game, while playing 28mpg.

Reduce his role and minutes to about 15-20 in this system and he very well could creep back up to 45%.

    Stop misinforming.

His defense while not great by any means is average and he puts in effort. He would also be much more reliable I'm a limited role.

And yeah a cheap average wing like Covington would give me better assurance for depth.

Tyson, Elfrid and covington would be a very solid trade deadline.

I like Elfrid as a Beverley type player, my concern here is his shooting and ability in the PnR. He's got a very bad shot and only shoots 27% on catch and shoot 3s and 26% overall from deep.

I like his defense and ability to drive, but I'm not familiar with his vision/passing/playmaking to be comfortable with him.

If not Elfrid Payton, I think Ronnie is still waiting on a phone call. Bonus - RP played with TC on Suns roster.

I know what you mean as far as backup center protecting rim (but need to help on perimeter). But maybe
Korver can still play & contribute (in the likes of Battier & Ray Allen). One month last year when he was
nursing an arm problem it brought his 3P avg down. This year: From 3:
    Oct .600/ Nov .377/ Dec .403/ Jan .444. DRtg: Oct 94/ Nov 108/ Dec 117/ Jan 109. Seems like
Dec gets him each yr. This yr he has started 4 of 13 games in Dec x DRtg of 117. We all need to
come to terms with the fact that Dekker may have hit the rookie wall. Drexler/Bullard were talking
about it in last nights game. D'Antoni had mentioned it to them. Will he get his 2nd wind come
    Feb-March?????? We don't know. Some do...some don't. I know CF's...Brewer to the rescue.
PLEASE shoot me now! Korver still needs to be guarded like Ryno gets guarded....imo.

It's not about shooting % entirely it's also about efficiency. Korver is averaging 30 minutes a game but averaging only 9 points. His efficiency has dipped considerably since his last all star selection 2 years ago. Korver is a declining player who would a great bench guy but not the 3-D lockdown wing that is needed for the Rockets.

And for a Hawks team that is still very much in playoff hunt to consider trading such a valuable commodity like Korver, makes me wonder why. Especially because Korver has been in trade talks the last 2 seasons. Still I would not mind adding Korver if price was cheap but not in lieu of rim protecting 5 or a true lockdown defensive wing.

And it's strange that my arguments are misinformation only when it is your pets that are targeted.

I don't get it. You say he's declining and losing efficiency, yet later call him a commodity?

Looks 2 years ago was an amazing season for him. He had a 49% from 3 season on 70%ts which is all time in terms of efficiency. But he only avg 12ppg.

He shoots 1.4 times less this year than that year but that has nothing to do with efficiency? But rather usage.

His ts% is down from. 699% to .601%, conversely his 3% is down from .492% to .414% from that historic season. So yeah his efficiency has slipped, but he's still ELITE when it comes to effeciency.

I get it he's older, and is declining but he's far from a scrub and is still one of the top 10 shooters in the NBA easily.

Don't confuse usage and role for efficiency. Don't compare this year to his all time great season 2 years ago, it's not fair. Compare him to the league.

For all-time reference: Lets compare korver to curry 2 years ago.

He was less at 3% at only .454% < .492%
He was less at ts% at only .669% < .699%

He shot considerably more and was and is the superior shooter to korver, but don't disregard korvers rank in history when that season comes into comparison. It's not fair to anybody.

Korver is still elite, he's just not ungodly anymore.

Also as for 3+D that's ariza. Nobody is supplanting him short of a star player. The starting 5 is likely not going to change. We should be looking at only bench players.

This is great, I hope something close to this happens. Thabo can be Ariza-lite for sure. I'm not real big on either of their ages though, I mean they can do what their role is but for the future of the team I'd like to get someone a bit younger. At the same time I realize you wont get that production at a younger age without paying a premium.

Speaking of that concern, Korver also throws a wrench into my plans because of his age. Sure, he's still producing at a starter's level but how much longer does he have?

Ultimately though as long as we aren't giving up too many of our assets I am fine because they wouldn't be used anyways. Well, not hardly anyways.

I maintain my trade targets are Noel and Gallinari.

The added beauty of targeting these Birds is all three are free agents to be next season so we maintain our flexibility to sign younger long-term replacements.

My sleeper pick for PG is Leandro Barbosa.

Playing on a crap Suns team, experience with MDA, cheap, non guaranteed deal for next year, hits the 3 at a high rate.

Well what I like about this one is we get Kosta and Kyle for KJ, Corey and maybe a #2 to SAC for taking Brewski. This would certainly give MDA more tools and give us a little more injury risk mitigation.

I'm not sure Millsap will be happy going from DH to Cousins locker room, but just maybe Paul can mentor the Boogie.

Interesting and complicated deal. I thought Mario Hezonja was an untouchable for Magic, but if he's available I'd see DM buying low to get him.
