He also has to play QB carousel. make the offensive line worse, and do bad draft day trades?

But even so, even if there are all these other duties for a HC, there's no indication Bill OBrien would be happy with a reduced role. After winning the division, why should he accept that? He's the guru and offensive genius, not the guy they're gonna bring in. Besides it might be OBrien who isn't happy here and wants to leave if it's true that his working relationship with Rick Smith isn't good and he gets players forced on him.

That's fine... so be it. If BOB wants to leave because he doesn't get the final say on acquisitions and full roster control, he'll land on his feet elsewhere.

But that's not what's being argued. Many here are thinking RAC would be an upgrade at head coach, and that's laughable.

Also, BOB has tried to delegate the offensive responsibilities in the past to Godsey. It didn't work. Perhaps he'd have better success with somebody else.

Also, its not a myth that there are other duties... there are. A ton of them. Its why most super-great coordinators fail as head coach, but go back to being great coordinators again.

RAC's record as a head coach is available for free on the interwebz as well. It's uh...not good.

You do realize that's out of only 16 head coaches, right? There've been 16 coaching changes since O'Brien was hired in '14.

So, yeah - 9th out of 16 is the very definition of mediocre.

I'm firmly on the McCoy train: remember: (likely) scouted and definitely worked with Osweiler for a year in Denver. And would bring outside voice to the offense.

This is why I'd fire Bill O'Brien - the Texans' offense has consistently looked good in the no-huddle, hurry-up; I'm guessing in large part because it doesn't give two dumb QBs much time to think.

This has been as plain as day - we've all seen it. Has BOB attempted to incorporate that into his offense? Nope. Only if he's desperate. He seems to truly be befuddled by his own team's success.

Having this type of stuff leaked before a playoff game is such a college football coach type thing to do.

Although I'm not exactly happy that Rick Smith is throwing another coach under the bus and surviving despite incompetence once again

The impetus behind the O'Brien exit is Rick & Bill have a very bad relationship. This isn't new or something came about recently. This goes back 2 years. When Hard Knocks was here, the crew noticed a bad relationship between O'Brien & Smith. O'Brien & Smith have had a bad relationship & it has continued to deteriorate.

Source went on and talked about how the Osweiler signing was Rick Smith's idea & he forced it on O'Brien. This was Rick Smith telling O'Brien this is who your QB is gonna be. The source continued to go on and said the only FA signing this year that O'Brien had any input on is Lamar Miller.

O'Brien & Smith do not get along in any way, shape or form. O'Brien expected to have more input than he's gotten.

O'Brien wanted to go into this year as Tom Savage as starting QB. O'Brien's plan was Savage as the starter, you could bring in a vet. backup or draft a guy. If you remember, Bob McNair, he wanted to draft a QB. O'Brien wanted to roll with Savage but Smith wanted Osweiler & he was going to have Osweiler.

This sounds very shaky. So basically the only move that BOB had any input in was the one that ended up being a good move? Oh and he wanted Savage who he put on IR last year.....because the QB's he wanted to go with was Hoyer and Mallett.....

I'm sorry I just don't buy it. This sounds like some BS you'd hear from fans with no actual access who just love to trash the GM as a scapegoat.

That could be, but then again, there are times when I see our QB's do such stupid stuff, that they would destroy any offense. Sometimes I yell at our coach and stupid plays, but maybe it is the lack of execution. I mean, we have an offensive line that folds like a paper kite sometimes, and so many times our "speedy receivers" can't seem to be able to make a move and get open like so many others find ways to do every week. Look how many times our guys fold to the ground when they get hit catching the ball short of the marker. Why don't they run a yard deeper before catching it, if they are incapable of making a move after the catch? We do that all the time.

There are so many deficiencies I honestly don't know who is to blame, because even the play calls I hate seem to work so effectively for teams who can run the ball better and have a better offensive line. Even the stupid screen calls I despise seem to work wonders on other teams. It's all been so frustrating to watch that I can honestly say I have never felt so depressed about a Houston team going back to the Oiler days, even though we have won our division and are going to the playoffs. I just don't enjoy watching our offense this year, and even though I scream and cheer every week, it just feels weird, almost depressing. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

This sounds like OBrien full-on rewriting history so he can blame ownership for Osweiler and move on to another job

Honestly though, if BOB did want to leave, the Texans would be the best job out there on the market so I'm not worried about it even if by some miracle this is more than just BS.

I don't know which HC would want to come here and who's available; you have a great defense, but no QB and 2 rookie WRs

Ya'll remember the majority of the Texans football players being pissed off at Rick Smith because of how he handled LB Mike Mohamed? You can google what happened as a memory refresher. It got to the point where it was being reported the anger was so thick he wouldn't enter the team locker room at one point. I wouldn't be surprised that TENSION exists in various forms...Rick Smith seems to be that one common denominator after all these years
