They literally wanted everyone else in front of him though. Sure, they drafted him, but Cowboys fans could have easily been watching Paxton Lynch this season instead of Dak.
The texans are also sloppy with their drafts. Too much trading up and throwing away picks. It's easier to get lucky when you have more picks
Yes. two separate head coaching stints... that would define "multiple places". Both stints were terrible. How many more chances would you like him to have? I am a firm believer that when you add all the head coaching responsibilities to certain coordinators, they become a far less valuable commodity. Crenel has this defense playing well. You make him a head coach, that's less time he gets to spend on the defensive side of things... AND you're now giving him more duties that he has proven in the past to be sub-par at. This is why Harbaugh was mentioning that a lot of ST coaches actually should get more HC opportunities... and let the specialist coordinators continue to do what they've proven to be great at.
I don't think those two stints necessarily prove he can't be a good head coach. He may not have been to blame considering one place is Cleveland and the other place he only got one year. Really I just don't trust ownership to not f this up. We interviewed Lovie Smith to satisfy the roonie rule then hand the job to obrien. It didn't seem like an in depth search. At least we know crennel can coach the defense to elite levels with multiple injuries so we should keep the one guy who is doing a great job along with Vrabel. Maybe we can keep Vrabel by making him DC then go out and find a good OC
Ignoring the fact that BoB is so unlikable, the coaching-specific problems continued this year. The clear appearance of lack of preparation. The clear appearance of lack of adjustments at half time (and throughout the game). The extremely questionable play-calling. Continuing issues with special teams. These were all valid criticisms last year. The fact they are again an issue makes me believe these problems will continue on into future years.
You're willing to sack O'Brien, who had much more success as a head coach than Crenel ever had, after only one stint... but you're giving Crenel a pass after two failed opportunities, and offering him a third? I'm perfectly ok with getting somebody to handle the offensive side of the ball. Keep the current defensive coaches in their best position. Institute a system like Dallas/Baltimore where the head coach is truly just a coordinator of coaches and delegator.... but ultimately does have a tab on the pulse of his team and handles all possible internal conflicts.
if sean payton is out in NO, i'd definitely hope mcnair considers him as a candidate. keep crennel on.
Mark my words. Let O'Brien go, and we really will look like the Browns more than the Patriots. If you don't know what I'm getting at, google it.
To be fair they wanted 3 other guys first and then passed on him three times. Then they had him as their 3rd string and he wouldn't even see the field if it wasn't for Moore and romo's injuries
Random name to keep an eye on if he declares: Josh Allen, QB from Wyoming. His stats aren't great, but he's the prototypical O'Brien quarterback. To a tee. A little bit of Carson Wentz and a tiny bit of Aaron Rodgers. He may not come out, though. Reason to believe he'd go top three next year if he stays in school.
Yup Matt Miller called him the next Dak on his scouting notebook that comes out every week http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2684264-matt-millers-week-17-nfl-scouting-notebook
The Browns. The Texans have a better team. He has already helped the team achieve top defensive status. He didn't have the team to do anything with in Cleveland.
And what was the excuse for him failing in KC? Yes, the Texans have a better team... and yes its in large part for what he was able to do for the defense. You make him head coach, it will lessen his direct control on the defense, and now you're putting more on his plate from other areas that historically he has failed at. He also doesn't pass the age test.... being a head coach in the NFL really is a younger man's game unless you've already constructed a system in place that basically runs itself.
The idea of firing O'brian for RC is laughable. RC did not just fail in Cleveland and KC it was a complete train wreck. The guy is a D-coordinator and nothing more. Saw Sean Payton name thrown in here and if he's gone in NO I think the Texans should hire him if the decide to fire BOB. That might be the only retread I like. But if not Payton i'd like to see them go after a new name. If they keep BOB and fire Godsey I hope they go for a splash hire for OC.
What's laughable is O'Brien's offense, personnel decisions, and in game decisions, the Savage concussion sneak being the latest mishap I can't see us doing another year of the same horrible offense without changing something. Maybe give Kyle Shanahan the HC and keep RAC as DC, but he's already interviewing
