The offense has gotten worse each year Obrien has been the coach 2014 23.3 ppg 2015 21.1 ppg 2016 17.5 ppg The offense has gotten worse the more Obrien's input has been here in terms of personnel. He claimed he was taking over play calling earlier in the year, but that wasn't true he was just covering for his buddy Godsey. If he fires Godsey you know they are pissed upstairs and told him changes need to be made. There was a story that came out earlier this year that said Obrien wasn't all in on signing Brock that the decision came from upstairs I think that was Bill who leaked that to his buddies in the media to cover his ass when he saw the QB wasn't going to get it done. I think there is more legs to this story than people might believe and it has nothing to do with the Texans record the past 3 yrs.
McNair forced Wade Phillips on Kubiak after our defense finished 29th in points and 30th in yards and it was the best thing that ever happened to Kubes, who had only had 1 winning season in 5 years with no playoff appearances at that point. This year our Offense ranked 29th in yards and 28th in points. McNair needs to force OB to fire his boy Godsey and bring in someone else to run the offense. I believe OB can be a good HC, but he can't do that and run an offense at the same time and Godsey is not the guy to pick up the slack.
Bring in Marrone or even Mike McCoy. If O'Brien has to fire his man Godsey (which in my opinion could be cause of any legit friction that there may be), at least he has ties to Marrone (good friends...More so than he and Godsey). I think it could be likely that Godsey is fired and Marrone replaces him.
If O'Brien is going out I think they should give the reigns to Crommel. His defense has been winning most of the games for us anyway. Just get him a very good OC and bolster your offense through the draft.
Romeo has been a HC before at multiple places. He failed specatcularly. Some guys are just better coordinators.
I really didn't expect any sort of rambling incoherent responses on this. Of course Payton had had more success historically. But right now, how do we have any assurances that Payton (who has one of the best 5 QB's, multiple young talented WR's, and a former college stud at RB) would go better than the 7-9 he was able to do at NO... with much less talent on this roster? Likewise, is it really a stretch to think that BOB would possibly have a better record with a better QB? That's where it boils down to that there's more to coaching than just what the coach does regarding X's and O's on his side of the ball. For all of BOB's weaknesses, he does have command of the lockeroom and runs an organized/good chemistry laden ship.
The comparison is the coaching structure they have in Dallas. Linehan runs the offense and calls plays. Marinelli runs the defense. Garrett simply oversees now... but still has a job.
Perfectly fine with so long as Smith follows him out. Also Glazer is not someone to just throw out stories with no real sources. He knows what he is talking about and is every bit as good at his job as Woj.
They got lucky with Dak. If they were stuck with sanchez or cassel or weeden or heck brock they would be 5-11 and they would all be losing their jobs.
Of course they did. And that sort of luck often is the difference between a coach who goes from job to job and a HOFer. Belicheck was thought of very similarly to what BOB is now prior to Tom Brady magically falling into his lap... a great coordinator who was trying to break free from the shadow of his former mentor (Parcells). BOB does seem to have the respect of his coordinators as well. Sometimes, head coaches have to coach other coaches just as much as they have to coach players.
On what planet is saying "I like this guy", "let's draft this guy" and then drafting that guy ****ing luck? Lucky how good he turned out to be? OK, maybe, but it's not like he fell into their laps. They wanted him. Texans (and others) didn't.
Well only twice. Once was the browns. The other time was one season for the chiefs after finishing the last few games as interim head coach the season before.
OB is the offensive genius and QB guru. Isn't that why he's here? I haven't been impressed with his challenges, clock management, red zone offense and personnel decisions, so I'm not sure just moving him to HC makes sense. Not sure he'll be too happy stripped of that responsibility either.
