Interfering doesn't equal SUCCESS IN THEIR GOALS AT INTERFERING. I'm not talking out of both sides of my mouth at all. Russia attempted to interfere.

I get it. You're belief is that U.S. should not take action against a foreign nation that committed espionage in an attempt to interfere with our democracy.

You are free to believe that is the course of action the U.S. should take, but I don't agree with that course of action. I think the U.S. is stronger than that, and doesn't need to cower after a foreign nation gets busted for espionage against us in their effort to interfere with our democracy.

There is proof of it, and a release analysis of what happened.

I'm fine with Obama's response so far. I'm kay with Trump improving relations with Russia, once Russia improves its' behavior towards the U.S. and stops aggressively invading other nations.

Well no **** dumbass. I have stated several times Russia has been compromising our systems for years. They have been involved in espionage since the cold war. Its only now the left is crying for more sanctions since their DNC demigod has been exposed as a bunch of unethical tools. All you guys want to pay credence to is stating its wrong and a few people have been replaced. You guys certainly didnt want Hillary replaced when this came to light.

I expect our foreign adversaries (and our allies for that matter) to try and compromise our systems. The whole server/email issue (that you call scandals) is exact proof that Hillary and the left do not take infosec serious. We live in a world were 1 and 0's are the front lines, not tanks and bombs. Your candidate and party called it an irrelevant scandal and downplayed Hillarys incompentence in regards to InfoSec. The whole Podesta leak is the exact proof that the Hillary and the DNC are in over their heads when it comes to present day foreign politics.

What I do expect is our political parties not to engage in unethical politics that results in swaying of our political process. Those that do should be prosecuted.

Your choice of works says it all. You call it an attempt to interfere with our democracy. I call it exposing Hillary and the DNC's corrupt and unethical behavior.

Yet you claim we should take actions against this type of behavior. Why is it only now do you think we should take action against Russia? Why are you not criticizing Obama for not expelling the diplomats being accused of espionage and closing two of their 'spy base' compounds sooner? If you truly believe the nonsense coming out of your mouth, you would be outraged the current administration would have put an end to these 'Russian spies' a long time ago.

You think he should have taken action against specific diplomats sooner?

I'm not criticizing him for taking action against specific people sooner because gathering evidence, getting the warrants, going over examining the options takes time. It takes about the same amount of time or longer in many criminal cases. If it comes out that it could have been effectively done sooner, then I'll be disappointed it wasn't done sooner. You haven't shown any evidence that it should have been done sooner, and I haven't seen anyone else post evidence that he had all of the specifics known sooner, and was still able to preserve the intel community's secrecy involved with the work etc.

So until you show me that he could have acted sooner with reasonable certainty about who to go after, I'll wait before jumping to the conclusion that he took too long.

We knew Russia was engaging in cyber espionage. We warned them to stop. They continued, and we took action. That isn't unreasonable.

I always thought we should take actions, and we have taken actions in the past.

Meanwhile you keep mocking the U.S. trying to stop this type of espionage carried out by the Russians. I hope one day you'll put America and it's interest above your political team. Good thing are you in the extremist minority on this one, though. Other conservative Americans are on board with this.

All of them, regardless of party, including both Republicans and Democrats alike.

If anyone is above the law on this question, then our entire political process has been severely and possibly irreparably compromised and undermined, and that needs to be known by everyone so the appropriate public response can be made.

Not my intention. Sorry it came out that way.

Not the report, the actions. I welcome the report. The more the better.

As for the actions - I agree to the argument that hacking by states occur constantly. Both sides know what's going on. I didn't see in the report something that merit those actions IMO, because these activities are NOT new. I can't see justification for actions NOW with just what's reported. Now, if there is more than what they publicly reported, then ok. But we'll not know for a while. So, as for actions, for this particular case, since it is controversial and there are planned Congressional inquiries, I prefer to see Congressional report then actions, including retaliation if necessary.

I saw your post about cybersecurity over the past 8 years and I replied with a link. You should read up on it if you haven't (it's not a rosy report). I'm not going to reply to a general statement you made there. You need to provide more reasoning. And so if you are interested, start a new thread on it. It's an important topic that I think most people don't give a damn about it.

I don't normally criticize Obama (not that I don't have any; have plenty in fact) because there is already enough to go around for all of us 100x with quite a bit of it baseless. I didn't even vote for him, but he has actually exceeded my expectation. But then, I usually have low expectation for incoming President.

You keep bouncing back to your 'we need evidence' safe corner. Was our 3 letter agencies 'evidence' enough to invade Iraq? This is the same bar of 'evidence' you need to close down two Russian facilities, which somehow Obama has just now got enough evidence after 8 years in office for facilities that have been openly ran by Russians since 1972.

Putin yanks Obama's chain and Obama irrationally reacts with pointless retaliation.

Dunning-Krugger effect in full bloom today.

It's called the 'devil you know' playbook. You allow a foreign espionage entity to think they have successfully imbedded, let them gather their fake intelligence. This way, instead of capturing them and kicking them out which allows said foreign entity to be informed that they have been caught and imbed themselves another way, they just let them 'operate'.

A cyber assault on our democratic elections was not, and is not, "typical" behavior by a foreign power against the United States. This a highly unusual act and, as Republican Senator John McCain has said, could be (and he considers it to be) seen as an act of war by Russia. The lame attempt to equate a cyber assault against this country's democratic system with the leak of some Democratic emails is somewhere beyond absurd. In my opinion.

It's also not something that happened. There was a cyber assault on the DNC, not "our democratic elections". Also, the hacking of a private organization can not and should not be considered an act of war except by hawks looking for an excuse to rattle sabers and partisans who are upset that their party had some dirty laundry exposed.

    Thanks Los Pollos

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electric grid. Authorities say there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid.
