Rockets are short on big man depth so I wouldn't mind grabbing him. Not sure I'd be willing to give up a rotational player though, outside of Brewer. McDaniels early in the season looked more than adequate but since he fell out of the rotation he has looked like ass in garbage time, so who knows what sort of impact swapping Brewer for McDaniels in the rotation would have.
I can't see the Rockets trading Anderson. He's the PF that Morey has always wanted. He fits the system. I'd really be surprised to see any of our core players traded. Especially with the way they've been playing.
I've been racking my brain Is there a trade we can make at all? I would only move brewer/kj and draft picks and what would that get us? What position can we upgrade Maybe something like noel but no way we get him for that deal
I've been having fun all night Derp.....Life is good, our Rockets are rolling. They are having fun doing it. On a serious note: that contract of Kostas probably isn't a Morey friendly deal. Before the season, rumor was the Rockets wanted Rudy Gay x Brewer, KJ and pick(s). My understanding the deal would have been done if the deal was Ariza instead of Brewer. Let's let it play out. It may involve more than just straight up Brewer x Kostas....maybe just smoke and mirrors to get Denver, Philly, Orlando, Knicks(?) to come down in their asking price for a player. Possibly set up Kings for a bait and switch for a WCS in the end,
KK is neither raw or unpolished. He has very good defensive awareness, and knows how to maintain rebounding position. I know there is no flashy common stat for defensive awareness (which is why so many people were unaware of how bad a guy like Terrence Jones was), but his DRPM among centers has been top 15 in 3 of the last 4 years (9th this year, 7th in 14-15, and 15th in 13-14). He has also averaged 10.8 Reb and 1.8 Blk per 36 over his career. He is a really good defensive big. Offensively he's not raw, he's simply not very good. If he had any offensive game whatsoever he would be getting paid a hell of a lot more than he is right now. He's basically a catch and finish guy, but he knows how to set screens and be where he is supposed to be. His defensive positives outweigh his offensive negatives. If Onuaku had KK's in game awareness he would be playing right now.
I'm with you. I see the need for a rim protector but I don't want to give up anything other teams would want to get one. The team is gelling right now and chemistry is very delicate. Some combination of Brewer, Ennis, KJ, Bobby B, maybe Onuaku, Euro stash and picks is about all I would be willing to give up. Everyone else is playing so well aside form Wiltjer who I think could be valuable in the future in a role similar to Bullard was. Just not sold on Koufos.
i think trading for KK is short sighted. yes we do need a rim protector, even if capela were playing. but a 3 years for KK is too much. i'd rather move brewer and kj for cap space and land a more impact player.
Ariza with Gay, to me atleast makes no sense, yeah Gay is more athletic than Anderson but he'll never shot or spread the floor like Anderson. Having Ariza and Gay for defense would be a luxury not a necessity. When Capela comes back Harrell can play more back up 4 for defense and rebounds. ROCKETS have been eanting Gordon and Anderson for a while and now i see why, both shoot lights out at times and both are not bad rebounders....i can honestly say this season has been the only season i would be ok with not trading anyone. The team chemistry is off the charts it seems atleast. Dont need another Dmo butt hurt situation.
Getting rid of Ryno is absurd, his presence on the court is what allows everyone else to get so many high % looks, because you can't leave him open even 4 feet behind the 3pt line. Koufos is somewhat useful for when the Rockets need to use a legit big at center for about 20 minutes, since we don't have one presently. Useful if we play the Spurs/Clippers/Grizzlies/Jazz but not so much vs. the Warriors.
I just watched the DEN/PHI game after ours to see how Noel and Nurkic played. It looks like Nurkic put on belly weight and he's much slower than I remember last year (I live in CO). He missed 2-3 lay ups and basically looked slightly below average for an NBA center. The last play of the game they needed a basket to tie and he stopped playing after touching the ball once--everyone else on the Nuggets was fighting to get the ball in the basket (but were unsuccessful). The Jokic kid looks like a stud in the making. Noel was ok on defense and made a few baskets, but after watching them both, I'd probably look at KK closer.
You can't screw with a winning team and chemistry. This team has it, one minor move and it could evaporate. Anything that is in the rotation should not be moved. (Except for Brewer!) DD
You're not exactly an insider so how much do you really know about the situation? You think you know more than Morey and actual people who've seen his medical records? So because you think he's healthy you know DMo is healthy? Are you an ostrich? If you have your head buried in the sand you think the predators won't see you? skilled 7 footers who are young and can defend, score in the post, shoot 3s and pass are in high demand. If DMo was really healthy how come no other team has signed him a month after the Rox made him an UFA?
Exactly, I'm not an insider, all I can go on is what people know for sure. That he passed a physical in New York and that he was healthy during the playoff series last year for the Rockets. Perhaps you have a newsletter that tells you that he's not healthy, but if not, how about we just go on what we know for sure?
Brewer, KJ and picks should be enough to get KK. His team has a surplus on big men and KJ is good enough to be considered an important piece if given PT (and he doesn't fall out of the rotation). Kid definitely has talent, that's for sure.
You can go on for what you know is sure but why are judging you Morey based on only what you know? It's not Morey's job to keep you informed and up to date on the latest scoop and information, why should he make decisions based on what you know? He knows more than you do, that's for sure. And other NBA teams haven't even approached Dmo with a 9 ft pole since he bcame UFA. You keep dodging this but if he was healthy why haven't any team ponied decent cash for him? Teams are so starved for talent Dallas even offered Royce White a camp invite before now no team will sign a "healthy" DMO? Like I said if Morey signed DMO and he turned out injured again you won't judge Morey "based on what you know", instead you'll blame him for being a dumbass and not doing his homework. I'm glad Morey is taking the safe approach and not signing anyone who looks like an injury risk waiting to happen, we already have enough with Anderson, Gordon, Bev and Nene.
So you are making assumptions in order to justify things? That's okay, a lot of Rockets fans are, but until something legit comes out I see no reason to create fan fiction like that.
What is this, projection? You're the one who said Morey failed in getting DMo and that DMo is a better player at a lesser price than KK, how is that not making assumptions? You're the one assuming DMo was healthy to begin with when you haven't seen his medical records or talked with any of the doctors who examined DMo. What constitutes a pass or a fail? You have no clue on any of these things but just based on grapevine talk you already feel qualified to determine whether Morey should've signed DMo or not. You're the one making assumptions to justify things, not me. I'm just saying the facts that we do know (the Rox passed on DMo, no other team has offered DMo a contract) all are contradict to your assumption. The league collectively isn't dumb, if DMo was 100% without issues why haven't any of the teams in the NBA signed him? You can't even answer any of these questions yet feel to qualified to decide whether DM has made the correct call or not. You're worse than a monday quarterback, at least that guy waits for the facts to come out before he says "I told you so". Insane. You can't make this **** up!
