Koufos has the size that we need at the 5. Though not glamorous, Koufos is a stop sign that will make people think twice about driving to the rim. Nene is serviceable, but he really lacks the lift to protect the paint at this stage of his career. I'd make this move even if Clint wasn't hurt. Koufos could take some of Nene's minutes (on some nights based on matchups). I'd like to keep Harrell out on the floor, but he really needs to be at the 4 spot backing up Anderson.
If Morey wants to trade Sewer for a big then maybe he can get Miles Plumlee. Koufos has much more value than that.
Maybe Dekker gets more time at the 3, Harrell more time at the 4. That's assuming, of course, that Morey can jedi-mind-trick another GM into taking Brewer.
There is no denying that we need another big, I hope that this is a smoke screen on Morey's part. Kostas ain't too bad, but we need someone better than him.
Top 10 in DRPM among centers, not much of a shot blocker but still gets the job done as a rim protector by properly challenging shots at the rim. I would trade him for Brewer+Ennis straight up, but have this nagging feeling that Trez has to be included into the package if the deal was made.
I like Koufos as a backup big, I always have and probably always will. That said, he has a three year deal with the third year being a player option, so he's even worse than Brew on the "bad mid-level contract" front. Seems like a big long-term commitment to make just for the sake of filling in for one month.
I mentioned that I think the Rox needed a big man who is just big and can get the ball, this is exactly the type of guy we need on the team. The Rox don't really need another core guy in the rotation, those people dreaming of WCS etc. don't understand, Capela is our C of the future. However as good as Capela is, just like Dwight, he tends to struggle against 7'1+ ft guys who are just bigger and just stand around in the paint grabbing rebs. What the Rox needed is a 7'1 big guy of their own to play in those matchups, that's were KK comes in he's there to give the Rox a different dimension. I doubt he's gonna go in and average 12 pts a game like Capela does or become a PnR threat like Nene and Harrell but getting him does improve our matchups against the Western teams like Utah, Grizzlies and SaS. There's really no point in getting Plumlee, WCS or anybody else if we're still keeping Capela, remember when the Rox had both Asik and Dwight int he rotation? If we get another guy who thinks he should be the starter, it's gonna disrupt the chemistry we have because either that guy or Capela is gonna pout in the lineup due to lack of PT.However as far as impact goes I think Harrell's minutes at C will be eaten up because of this, he's gonna have to find spot minutes at PF as well as C.
How are Brewer and Koufous bad money at 7M? Roleplayers easily make 15-20M in the market nowadays his contract is actually a bargain since it locks him up for 2 more years and the cap is gonna increase even more next year.
The man brings legit defense and rebounding. He makes our team better if we can find some way to pry him away from the Kings.
True. I also don't feel we will make a big trade because the chemistry and our play is so good, you don't want to mess that up (unless of course it is a superstar coming here). Also would not be surprised if we also make a small trade for a wing to come off the bench to take Brewer's minutes.
Brewer is bad on a vet minimum deal at this point. Koufos, on the other hand, is a serviceable backup big. That should be a very tradeable contract. If we could trade Brewer straight up for Koufos I would be IN LOVE with that. Also, nobody has mentioned the extra benefit of this deal. LET'S GET THE NIKO NIKOS GUY EXCITED ABOUT THE ROCKETS AGAIN!
