His shooting definitely screws up the offense, but I doubt that's the only issue, the video even mentions how Dieng prevents KAT from driving. I don't know if Tyrus Jones is the answer.
I don't hate Rubio like a lot of people here but it's obvious he doesn't fit many places in the NBA as a starter. His defense doesn't make up for being such a poor offensive player. He's played professional basketball for a very long time and scoring is just something he can't do well. I expect Thibs will cut bait by the deadline since they have nothing to lose. Regarding Gorgui Dieng, why in the world would Thibs play him together with Towns? For that matter, why ever play Dieng at PF? Makes no sense at all to me in today's NBA. I'm curious to hear from guys that watch them consistently.
Really just not an NBA player. You take him in the draft, hoping he can develop a shot after 5 years, but he is going to kill your team with his overwhelming deficiencies, like described in the video.
i catch them on league pass often and was surprised to hear Coach Nick say Dieng's a non-shooter. Too lazy to look at his stats, but his 15ft jump shot seems acceptable to me. His game has grown quite a bit over the last 2 years. Definitely agree that he shouldn't be diving to the rim/clogging the lane on the Rubio-KAT pick and rolls but instead getting to his mid range spot along the baseline.
Dieng strikes me as possibly a good backup C. Has a decent mid-range jumper and can block some shots as a help defender. He's a pick-and-pop guy. Don't see him as a great finisher at the rim in the NBA. A PnR with Rubio and Dieng has plenty of opportunity to fail. Why would he be on the floor with KAT against anyone but the Grizzlies?
Free Tyus. Morey liked him during the draft, according to previous reports. Either way, Rubio has been an epic disappointment, based on expectations of him year after year. People wanted to blame coaching changes and the roster for Rubio's struggles, but a jumper is a jumper. When your pg can't shoot well, the offense is usually a disaster, unless your PG is a great facilitator. Rubio doesn't know how to get everyone involved on a nightly basis, and the video is correct in its analysis of Towns' potential being harmed by Rubio's mediocre decision making, especially in terms of keeping his dribble and penetrating to balance the floor. Thibs must lose his mind watching from the bench, considering the smart players and difference-makers he has coached in past years. The TWolves have some great talent, and while Rubio isn't to blame for everything, he's supposed to be the floor general and leader for guys like Towns. Unfortunately, he's fit neither role particularly well. IMO, you trade him for what you can and develop the players who are future all-stars/role players. Give Dieng some more time to develop, too. He's going to be good.
Maybe we can trade Harden for Rubio since Rubio averages less turnovers per game we'll be a championship team per holic.
This guy has been in the NBA so long and still can't develop an outside shots. Lots of guys can't shoot the mid range, but they developed a 3 point shot to stay in the league as a Specialist. Rubio has done nothing but spend time chasing hot chicks
Rubio's served his purpose and that was make enough people (Glen Taylor and Kahn) believe he's worth the hype to save that max player designated slot rather than using it on Love. If they didn't move Love, they wouldn't have KAT, Wiggins and maybe even Lavine now.
True dat bro. True dat. If not for Rubio, they wouldn't have Kat, Wiggins, and Lavine. At least the TWolves have a bright future as soon as they get rid of Rubio. If they gave Love the max, instead of Rubio, they are probably looking at a team fighting for the 8th spot every year without much of a future with Love and Rubio
