No, they cut him after the draft wink-wink deal didn't pan out for him because Wiltjer beat him out, and he might get beat out by another undraftdd player next year. These first year wink-wink promises don't last forever. He's now a free agent like Whitehead was. He'll sign with first team who calls him ... you can take that to the bank.

But he'll probably never get that call and will just sign a camp contract with rockets again next year ... maybe maybe no ... depending upon who we draft and Sign as undraftwd. maybe another team like closer to home.

btw: why didn't we do another "wink-wink" deal with Raphiael Putney? Did CLE out wink is? Or did Wiltjer beat him out too?

You mean if another team calls him to offer an NBA contract he'll hang-up, and conversely the Rockets promise not to give a contract to any other D-Leaguers this year?

Or is the "wink-wink" deal merely, "we'll give you the starting spot in the Vipers if you sign with them, and call you up if you perform better than our other options."

Yeah we do that every single year. Payton's not special.,,cause he's not very good and should sign with first team to offer him a chance on an NBA roster and not wait for when Rockets are ready. I don't think his dad would allow that.

I think we have a different definition of a wink-wink deal.

So this is a "promise us to hang up the phone if another team's calls you" deal.

Did I get that part of your wink-wink deal correct?

Or is it a "if someone offers you a contract we will match it" type deal like DMo

    Payton Sr is no Sucka

Plus Morey would also be stupid to ever sign him until he proves himself. So the way that works is GP saying "don't sign anyone else until I'm ready for the jump,,,is that a deal?"

I love this. Thx for the lulz holic,,, add specifics of the deal to replace mine if you want. But doesn't matter I getting a laugh out of how Payton has power to control our moves and make us give him more promises than we already is, but he didn't make the cut

    Lulz.

No. Because you say wink-wink deals are circumvention when I tell you about them. LOL. But you don't have the onions to challenge BIma when he suggests the possibility of one.

I've given you a little riddle. Solve it. We have a wink-wink deal with Payton. Figure it out for yourself. What is it?

No. Not all "wink-wink" deals are circumvention. But some are. Payton does not have a wink-wink" deal of the circumvention type, because he's never even played in the NBA yet and no team has his rights.

Promising to sign an undrafted d-leaguer or euro-leaguer if he performs in another league is not circumvention of NBA rules.

Wiltjer pre-draft promises were not circumvention and neither were Payton's

Also telling ANY stash you will sign them once ready (like Johnson of the Thunder) is not circumvention.

Just like you say not all wink-wink deals are the same, I'm saying not all promises to NBADL players constitutes circumvention

    So question back to you:
What do you think Morey's circumvention promises to an unsigned, undrafted player who has never played in the NBA before are?

You're just a sucker for secret, illegal dealings and see them everywhere. They are usually not there, dude

And I did solve your riddle, but you are too unsure of yourself to respond to my list of promises made in previous post

So again, I never said that (I think you're mistaking me for @heypartner ).

As for your "riddle" - I never asked for a riddle. I asked for a list of all the current wink-wink deals that you know of, since there are "lots of different wink-wink deals" that you know of.

If you don't want to list them will you at least tell us why? Are you afraid your identity and therefore Inside Connections will be discovered? Or do you not want to put them in writing for some other reason?

Jokes aside, GPIII would easily become an NBA rotation player if he developed a good 3pt shot like Beverley. I suspect he has the work ethic, overly involved father and right coaching staff to do it.

Some NBDL prospects that have been scoring well recently.

    BIG MEN

Joshua Smith (Skilled as ever, has lost serious weight, about 20lbs away from being taken seriously by NBA teams imo)

Jeff Ayres (Game looks Nene-ish, has NBA experience with Spurs, Pacers, Blazers)

    Eric Moreland (Former Sacramento King)

GUARDS (Not sure if team is willing to waive Bobby Brown)

Pierre Jackson (remember there was a bit of hype about him before achilles rupture, looks like his 3pt shot has improved)

Jordan Crawford (NBA vet, tearing it up from 3pt range, can he be a nice 4th guard?)

Would be nice to pick up Jeff Ayres and Pierre Jackson. Those guys would fit here in place of Ennis and Brewer. I don't know that it would make a huge difference to anything though.

I believe Putney got suspended for failing drug testing. I wonder if that may have had something to do with it?

You mean, do you wonder why he isn't getting called up? Yeah, that's probably it.

fwiw: From the CBA's lists of punishments per offense, we know
    • This cannot be Drug of Abuse offense ("hard" drugs), as that is 1yr on first offense.
    • mar1juana penalty is 3 strikes and your are out for 5 games, so that would have had to have been his third positive test.
    • Steroids have a 5 game penalty on FIRST offense.
So, I'm betting the 180lb Putney tried to gain weight with steroids and got caught. Maybe teams won't look too harshly on that, given it's a kid trying to fix one of his main "negatives."

I played a drinking game last night called "wink wink" that I made up where I take a shot every time the words "wink wink" were used in this thread. I puked my guts up and blacked out on the kitchen floor!
