ya you're right. im not as much talking about chandler. i'm not sure he is a realistic option, i'm more worried about a josh smith type.
For Brewer, KJ, Ennis, rights to Gentile (or a 2nd) sure. He can still give you a good 25 minutes and the right kind of guy to be around Harrell and Capela. Also Chandler has played effectively for MDA before so that could help speed up his familiarity with the team/system. If Chandler was not productive, they would have to pay a LOT for someone to take him off their hands. Seeing as he's productive yet old, I think they would be happy to just shed a good chunk of that salary and just get an average young piece. They can waive KJ this summer, and Ennis is expiring. Brewer they'd be stuck with, but that's a much smaller contract to endure during rebuilding (are they ever not rebuilding?) Would be better to get Noel imo but not for what it would cost.
Wouldn't touch Noel anymore. He wants to start and will want to get paid. He's not starting over Capela so he wouldn't be happy.
I agree, plus we don't have much to offer them. I really hope we can make a deal for chandler soon. Teams are just attacking us inside right now.
Why not just start the better player? And not sure where you're getting your info, Noel is complaining about minutes, as in 8 a game, and role (Philly playing him at PF) not who starts. Your dislike for Noel is coloring the discussion unnecessarily.
How can price be established unless a trade is made? Teams aren't really listing their prices. Just assuming based on whatever rumors in recent memory, the fact that he's still there, and the fact that Colangelo typically drives a hard bargain. Plus our non core pieces are of little value to the Sixers. Can't imagine they would trade Noel to us without expecting Ariza or Bev in return (they have little to no use for young front court guys), and while I would have made that deal easily prior to the season, those two guys have earned their improved value man.
If teams not listing their prices then how can you and others insist Rockets can't afford him? Rockets can package players and picks, which is what it would take to get Chandler as well. The difference is that Noel's contract ends next season while Chandler's goes on for several more years severely limiting Rockets ability to make further roster improvements. Chandler's contract is a huge red flag, especially if we know it will take more than this one player to get team in championship contention, not only this year but for years to come.
Noel knows he would be a beast doing what Capela is doing in Houston. Setting picks and rolling to the rim taking lobs from a guy named Harden. Blocking some shots and getting rebounds patrolling the paint. Rockets had KJ in a similar circumstance as an upcoming RFA. It looked like Morey buried KJ deep on the bench to decrease any offer sheet made on KJ at the time. It may look like that in Noel's opinion at the moment. I expected him to rock the boat upon returning.....Philly knew he would as well. I find it confusing how people think Noel price tag is high; but Tyson Chandler price tag is half-price. Tyson has the proven track record & is under contract control.
Your reasoning doesn't make sense. By that token, we don't know anyone's price so we shouldn't discuss any estimated trade values. I am estimating Noel's value in the exact same way you are estimating Chandler's value, which is the exact same way everyone estimates every player's trade value where the team has not announced/leaked what they would accept. So, get that out of the way. Chandler would not cost picks AT ALL. That is without question. If you want to even debate this, it is not good look for your credibility. Chandler is 34 with 2 years remaining after this one at a total of $25m. He will NOT demand pickS. If a team offer the Suns only expiring contracts for Chandler, Phoenix would most likely have to send a pick back to that team. That kind of deal has a long established history in the NBA. For example, see Lin to Lakers. If we are giving up the package which I outlined as acceptable to me personally, we would be giving up only $5m in cap space this summer. Since we are not sending back exclusively expiring contracts, I imagine we would have to include Gentile or a pick. I find that to be acceptable. Chandler would be a solid rotation player for this season and next. Capela would be up for an extension when Chandler would be an expiring contract in 2018 when $14m will not look like what $14m looked like a year ago. That will be a managable contract, and if he somehow can still play I imagine he would still be a decent backup. Chandler would pay immediate dividends and there are verifiable ways to make that assessment: he has been playing well, he has a track record of playing well even if slowly declining, and he has played well for MDA. This reduces the risk of acquiring him CONSIDERABLY in a way which I sincerely wish were the case for Noel. Chandler would give us a great season and be a key rotation player. You can say that with confidence about Chandler far more easily than you can about Noel. I understand you're a big fan of Noel, so am I. But I am primarily a Rockets fans and so are you, and the risk factor is important here. There IS a material chance that Noel will not do great on our team. He has been up and down on a bad team, he has not been on a good team, he has not played in more than one system in the NBA. He is complaining about getting minutes 2 games after coming back from an injury on a team where his teammates are working hard to earn their minutes. This is a red flag - something I would absolutely accept if we were rebuilding, but we are NOT rebuilding. We are in the midst of a fight for homecourt with a team that needs to play better than the sum of its parts to reach its goals. The worst case scenario in this type of Chandler acquisition would be that we have $5m less to work with this summer, but all our trade assets will be looking great because Chandler will undoubtedly improve this team. Not the flashiest or the highest potential, but you can bet your ass he will do what he's done his whole career without any system/fit/chemistry issues. That's who he is, it's proven. This risk can be compounded. Let's say we trade a first rounder and a young guy for him (certainly we're not trading Ariza or Bev for him). Let's say he doesn't do well or it doesn't go well with the coach, as happens commonly with young guys. Now we have a restricted FA, some team comes and gives him a monster offer. Suddenly we either let him walk and we gained almost nothing while losing young assets, or we have to lock him up long term a guy who did not outplay Capela. HERE we are screwed with flexibility and ability to upgrade the roster, because the following summer we have to extend Capela. No more money, done. That's the team, hanging by Noel's ability to rebound from an average season to a great season.
You don't think he'd be happy getting 20 minutes a game (more at first with Capela out), playing with Harden, winning, and getting to earn more minutes by outplaying Capela when he comes back? Sounds like a pretty good situation to me. He's confident that he's good. I think he'd be happy to get a chance to show it, and showcase himself for a big contract.
No to noel. He doesnt really move the needle to me. Basically the same player as capella. Now a guy i was thinking may be up on the block since he is on a losing team n a free agent next year is serge ibaka man i would love him here. Played with james. Can hit a 18 footer. N a 3. Plays d like clint but better shot blocker.. He is a lil soft but skilled. Would be a good get even if u have to give up dekker n clint..i would pull the trigger
Glad you are not GM... Ibaka is now no longer much of a post player but a way lesser version of Anderson. Anderson > Ibaka as we speak.
