There is no doubt that Dekker will get more minutes this season. If he continues this kind of performance throughout the rest of this season, the Rockets will continue to be successful. This is only Dekker’s second season and, so far, the future looks promising for him.

Parsons had an immediate impact his first year, and I don't know if Sam will be in a position here to match that.

What we can wish best for Sam is that he continues to hustle, and that his shot falls. He will be a pivotal piece in our championship run.

We also must hope his head doesn't get too big here.

This is not a true or false statement sorry mate. You should list it as an opinion.

Dekker has an immediate impact right now on A CONTENDER and this is his first year if injury is taken into consideration. Parsons played not on a contender in his first year.

Dekker may have a better a career because of injuries to parsons, but no I don't believe he'll ever be a more talented player.

Too early to judge at this point. Parsons was a 4 year college rookie who came on to the team with a wide open SF spot that he had every opportunity to compete for.

Dekker is in a different situation in that he doesn't have the same opportunity to make mistakes and grow as quickly as Parsons did. That being said, considering how everyone overlooked Parsons when he joined this team, it's only fair to give Dekker a bit of time before deciding whether he will be as good or better than Parsons.

He could be healthier than Parsons.

Parsons' ball handling ability is much higher than Dekker's and that's not a skill you can exponentially grow over time. I think the other facets of Dekker's game (shooting/defense) can improve. That being said, if Dekker's shooting/defense continues to trend upward, he'll be better than Parsons even without the ball handling because Parsons' defense went MIA as soon as the douchiness came into play.

    well... short answer : no,
    long answer: yes
    o_O

all what Dekker needs is time on the court to surpass an average glorified role player

Agreed, except the ball handling. Parsons doesn't have a huge edge there. Sam can dribble and has a nice spin off-the-dribble too.

Maybe the ability to create his own shot is what I'm trying to say. Parsons had enough handles to get his own shot. Of course Dekker isn't afforded the same opportunity in this offense but that's the only area where I see Parsons having the edge.

Parsons is a better teammate and has higher basketball IQ. However, Dekker has better motor, more hustle and a higher degree of sneaky athleticism.

Dekker hustles! He works hard for everything as long as he continues to do that he should have a more successful carreer than parsons in my opinion. As for becoming a better player? We still haven't seen enough.

Fair assessment. I think we can agree that both have a really solid work ethic and grit. Solid gym rats and lunch pail guys.

I attribute it to them both having strong father figures in their lives.

Parsons has greater playmaking abilities, and can create his own shot to some extent. He is a 2nd tier player, who overrates himself.
Dekker is less talented, but he is a hard worker. Parsons stopped playing defense in his 2nd year. I think Sam won't do that.

Parsons can't stay healthy, and will always be a part time player for any team with his knee problems. Let's just hope we get more out of Dekker than Memphis probably will Parsons. Wouldn't you know he would finally be playing tonight though, which is just our luck.

The difference is that Chandler's lunch pail is a fashionable Burberry leather man-bag.

When did Parson's create his own shot? I was the biggest Parson's fan here and I never saw it. He had that pump fake to drive and that was it. Once he got going in one direction, he could not change direction. He was also slow turning the corner after a pick. The biggest knock on Parsons is that he never played his height. He could never take advantage of a shorter guy because he was so thin and had no post game.

Dekker may be not quick as Parsons, but skill wise he is better in every regard and he's a lot stronger. Dekker is a better shooter, better rebounder, better post game, and much stronger. The only thing I haven't seen from dekker yet is shooting off the dribble. If he can do that consistently, he's going to be very good.
