I'm not sure if this has been posted already by me or someone else, but I found this interesting read courtesy of a reddit poster -GoOn

    The Fear is real.

This just backs up the scared look from Robinson during that series's media conference. It's always great when all the back story of that incredible Rocket run gets fleshed out.

Hakeem gave Robinson the Shakes on and off the court.

Man that was a great read, just what you quoted here. I'm sitting here laughing my azz off hearing this in Rodman's voice. I don't even know what to say, other than it feels so good. :)

David Robinson took Dream's MVP award.

    Dream took David Robinson's soul.

    Never forget

Based on that characterization, Robinson sounds more like a Type-B personality star, like a Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, or Kevin Durant. (And I like TMac. Indifferent to Howard. Don't like KD.) Still, pretty interesting insights on a man called "the Admiral".

Name one other time in NBA history where the opposing position of the league's MVP, was obliterated in a playoff series. I can't think of one. The Dream between 92-95 was the best player I've ever seen.... Unguardable. He solidified my love for the NBA and the Houston Rockets. Instantly brings back great memories. Once in century talent IMO for a big...and that's being safe. The best two way player in NBA history. Thank God for YouTube and VHS.

Admiral was for his Naval Academy service than anything else.

It is interesting about his personality, he seems like a 'nice' guy, perhaps lacking the mongrel and nastiness you see from most of the NBA alpha dogs.

Not that that's a bad thing, I'm usually promoting the guys who show a little self-awareness and humility. But that doesn't mean you can't stand up for yourself and be competitive. This account was just embarrassing for Robinson!

Rodman acts as if he would have guarded Dream better than Robinson. Dream would've lit his azz up too lol.

There was NOTHING stopping Olajuwon that year

Never can understand whats so great about David Robinson. His like a glorified sidekick to Tim Duncan, and his earlier years, he is promoted by NBA due to his Navy years and good christian faith.

I think what Rodman was saying is that while Dream would have still gotten his, Rodman at least would've made him work for it, maybe even get into his head a little with his eccentricities. The point was to not simply let Dream imposed his will over you like, like the Admiral seemingly allowed his own room locker room to do. I knew Dream stole his soul, but damn, that Avery anecdote was painful to read.

Rodman was good but he couldn't have stopped Dream. Only guys like Eaton could slow down Dream.

He's collected virtually all the awards a player can win. He's in the top tier of C's in NBA history.

But from the various Clutch City documentaries, Hakeem took that series against the Spurs (and Robinson in particular) personally, for stealing his 2nd MVP.

Remember Horry saying how no one had ever seen some of the moves Dream put on D Rob...

Rodman was an absurdly valuable and underrated player just based on his defense and ability to gain extra possessions from offensive rebounding. He was the prototype PF/C for a team that already has elite scorers, and he was on a lot of teams that made it to the Finals. If he says their defensive scheme stunk I tend to believe him.

Rodman was too small to mark Dream. Dream could square up and shoot over him all day. Or just post him up for lay-ups and jump hooks. If Rodman was Dream's primary defender, I believe he would have averaged 40+ points at a higher efficiency.
Dream went toe to toe with prime Moses and held his own. No disrespect to Rodman, no one was touching Dream that postseason.

David Robinson was like a 7'1 Russell Westbrook, a physical specimen, a stat vacuum with even better efficiency and clean rep. He was an alpha center in the regular seasons who had the unenviable collision with Dream in the postseason and came a very distant second.

Dream proved that he belongs in the Mt Rushmore of alphaness along with MJ, Larry Bird.

No one could really have guarded the dream. The problem was they let Horry, Smith, Cassel etc. get their points. There is no player who can take a team by himself to the ring not mj,wilt, Hakeem, etc.

Hakeem would have gotten his anyways but Rodman would have at least been a bit more pesky.

Keep in mind most great players have a crazy high ego and Rodman's is bigger than most. Even if he said he could have stopped Hakeem, which he never says, it'd have to be taken with a grain of salt.
