“no apparent reason?“ Hell no, the reason is a mass immigration of a disgusting culture that looks down on women and national laws. Pair that with a pi** poor organized event with massive crowds and you know what's going to happen. These guys well know that nothing will happen to most of them and use numbers to their advantage. Really don't understand why you're trying so hard to deny the problem when you're not even in Germany and have absolutely no insight.
Had Irish colleagues/employees in Germany at time and city where the mass rape happened. No doubt vast majority (almost all) were Arab Muslims. I remember discussing it and being struck that Germans were as/more upset that the rapists were Arab/Muslim than the actual rapes occurred. Germans really didn't want to believe immigrants would do it; as it challenged open minded values of Germany.
I don't believe so. But we'll have to agree to disagree here. FWIW I have a strong English/Journalism background. If you were going to write that sentence to indicate that half of the 2000 were foreigners, you wouldn't place the qualifier after the statement addressing the 120 suspects. "Everyone knows" is not sufficient.
The eff are you talking about? I am public enemy #2 around here when it comes to intolerance of religious and cultural shenanigans.
Dude, calm down. I'm asking an honest question. I have no background on this. You mistake my open-mindedness and curiosity for cynicism.
I'm merely sticking to what was reported. If you have other facts or reports about this episode then please post them. I've done nothing to relativize this. I have no interest in relativizing rape and sexual assault. Or any other moral atrocity for that matter. You know me well enough to know that. FYI the report states that the 2000 was not in Cologne alone, it was spread across multiple cities. What are the other times it has happened? Are any special precautions being taken this NYE? I believe and understand that full well. What I'm looking for is more information and background on this crisis and any tangible evidence to draw up conclusions. I don't think that, but I am looking for better facts than "everybody knows it".
Think you've misread what I've said. They could only identify 120 out of 2000. Out of those 120, half were migrants, yes. But you'd have to be really naive to think that the other ~1800 weren't mainly migrants as well (which is heavily backed by witnesses).
Then why did you act as if what I said was wrong when you confirmed the exact same thing I did? I have no idea what the other 1880 people were. I have no idea if 2000 sexual assaults on NYE is abnormal for Germany (I assume it is based on the reaction, but I have no numbers to base that on).
You originally said: “That means that 60~ were recent migrants/foreign nationals, not 1000~. Also, there is no mention of who/where these people came from.“ This is bogus when looking at the context and every account of the situation. When the article states 2000 suspects, 120 identified and 60 of them migrants, that in no way leads to the conclusion: “That means that 60~ were recent migrants/foreign nationals, not 1000~.“. The following paragraphs of that article even directly link the events to refugees and contain statements from experts. Yes, we'll never know the actual numbers, but even a tiny bit of research and looking at police statements & statements from witnesses will tell you that the vast majority of suspects were migrants from North Africa and Middle-Eastern countries. Again, you saying “well, only 60 out of those 2000 were identified as migrants, so it's not the majority“ doesn't help the situation, everyone knows what happened and that mass immigration is the reason.
New suspect is Tunisian and migrated to Germany in 2015. Was actually meant to be deported since July 2016, but that wasn't possible due to him not having proper documentation, nice. Germany asked Tunisia to provide the documents, but they for whatever reason denied that the guy is Tunisian. Brilliant stuff.
So, since this seems to be such an easy bar to jump over, has anyone compiled this information? And no, the article does not contain much supporting evidence other than a singular statement: "Officials have linked the sexual assaults to the influx of refugees. "There is a connection between the emergence of this phenomenon and the rapid migration in 2015," Holger Münch, president of the German Federal Crime Police Office, told Sueddeutsche Zeitung." Can we get something more substantive/concrete? Linked? To what degree? What are the figures surrounding this phenomenon that would put it in context and tell us the exact extent of foreign involvement? Dare we do our homework and actually put these things to scrutiny? Your strongly negative response to my desire for confirmation/facts is really odd. I corrected ATW's incorrect statement. Simple as that. There's not really a need to flip out or accuse me of anything because of that. It's not a good look for you that someone's mere desire to know more about this situation results in a complete blowup on your part. Again, "everyone knows" is not a sufficient line of argument.
I'm not “flipping out“, it just baffles me how you are so keen on having facts and dismiss everyone that says the truth. Having followed the case, you should know there's no way of identifying each suspect in retrospect, so statements from authorities and witnesses are everything we've got. Why are you not satisfied with the statements of hundreds of victims and witnesses, do you want videos of the rapes and the suspects screaming “HELL YEA, I AM A MIGRANT“? This is a case that happened in public and with thousands of witnesses, how can you not acknowledge that and act like the narrative is questionable?
German law, you have to hide the eyes and it's also not allowed to give out the full name of suspects ( allowed to mention the first name, but only the first letter of the family name). In cases where the public is directly involved or where the crime is extremely severe, it is allowed to give out the full name though.
