I think there were too many characters. Too many characters that the audience really doesn't get to know or even care about. Last 30 mins were great. One question though. Are we supposed to look past that Vader goes from complete angry bad ass to days later struggling to defeat old man obi wan
Still have to sell some new toys, I guess they could use any random reasons for why you never saw those again in the original trilogy........lots of different troop types would be the easiest.....
As for the movie itself, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Probably in my top three. That being said, I've never been a diehard SW fan, I liked Empire as a kid but it never left this deep resonance with me. I've watched them all, prequels out of duty, and this one just worked for me on multiple levels. I really enjoyed the call backs and characters, plus enjoyed that it's a truly self contained story......
skimmed part of this tread so I didn't get spoiled but the reviews were enough to get me off the couch and now I have my tickets for Thursday at lunch @ the Alamo
I need to address and emphasize a great deal to the members of this chatterbox that this is a WAR movie!!!! You want memorable characters??? You already have enough of that in all your toys and nostalgia and shirts and shoes and whatnot!!!!! IT's a WAR MOVIE!!!! Get it through your thick heads!!!! JESUS!!!
Saw it for a second time and it's just as good, if not better. Definitely felt more connected to the characters this go around and the first half didn't feel as rushed when it came to the planet hopping. Empire is still better of course, but this is a damn near perfect film! And I was able to catch all the Easter eggs this time, especially the Rebels surprises.
Saw it for the 2nd time yesterday, and that's exactly how I felt. Liked it better even the second time around.
Watched it earlier today. feel much better about this than TFA. I need to watch it again so I can have a better opinion about this, but as far as initial reaction definitely top 3 in the universe. As far as all the banter about the prequels vs. TFA make a separate thread and i'd gladly participate on behalf of the prequels.
Yeah, no memorable interesting characters with story arcs in Saving Private Ryan. Or Band of Brothers. Or The Bridge on the River Kwai (Obi Wan sucks in that movie, no laser swrod at all!) War movies are always just about the big battle at the end and not about how people change because of it.
I haven't seen a movie twice in the theater since maybe Aliens or T2. I am going to watch this movie again in the next few days.
Watched it yesterday. I have always said in the SW universe I liked anything to do with the force the most. So it goes to show you this was a pretty good movie considering the lack of that in this movie. I won't be. But I'm glad some people are seeing it a second time. They will never stop making these now bahhahahaha
I think this might be the first Star Wars film I see twice at the theater, I'm very curious about how it holds up......
on the SwoLy scale. Great visuals, good acting, and nostalgic tidbits... but the story and the character interaction was a bit too confusing for me. I would say 92% "Fresh" tomato.
Amen. This isn't a "Saving Private Ryan" type war movie. There aren't three hours to develop characters here. What, we need the blind man to monologue for five minutes about the Whills? We need CGI Tarkin to talk about his younger days? It's a very good movie, perhaps a bit jarring for those familiar with the Kenner toys "Star Wars" experience (sing along with me, all you Ewoks: "Chum chum......chikky chikky chum chum....chum chum chikky chi kee....")
