So now you are (for once) embracing the idea that teams cannot circumvent the intent of the CBA, hence the "No Loopholes" clause,...but you are using THAT as the new loop hole to exploit. So weird Nice attempt to salvage your theory that BJ pulled a fast one on Morey and the entire NBA/CBA, forcing Silver to apply his "No Loop Hole" clause to create a loop hole/seam in the fabric of the CBA and pull one over on ALL the owners. He forced Silver's hand. Brilliant. I guess you didn't see that DMo is not happy about the outcome, though, that he doesn't know the reasons, and is talking to the Players Union. Guess this is all to keep up a ruse, right, along with how he so cleverly showed up to Toyota Center to join the team and was sent home. Or this is all a ploy by Wasserman Group where they just used DMo to beat the CBA to gain future RFA clients, no matter that the RFA rules are changing next year, and none of this should be needed, and no other RFA even needed it to begin with. But it's still Brilliant! (Brilliant way for you to salvage your wildly wrong and convoluted and ever evolving theory.)
They are gone. Bird Exceptions are for the team, really. They can be transferred in trade, but as Free Agent, they live and die with the team, and the time had expired for Rockets to rescind QO, yet still retain Bird Rights. That's another casualty of not signing the QO. DMo screwed himself on max Bird raises with the Rockets should he perform.
This Locked on Rockets podcast makes some interesting points. He doesn't think it's the existing back issue and he doesn't think the league intervened to make some kind of ruling and builds good cases against both of those scenarios. He also points out how pissed off DMo seems to be about the Rockets since that most recent physical and says he thinks it's something between him and the team, possibly due to a hangup in the contract negotiations. Keep in mind that last contract was never actually signed, or officially announced by the team.
LOL.... Why would the Nets be penalized by Silver? No one made DMo a good offer and his agent messed up. Lets see how many teams open up the bank now that's he a UFA....
It makes sense if he is trying to get 2 years guaranteed and doesn't want to be traded, which seemed to be his motivation all along. He clearly did not trust Morey and did not want to be traded. DD
I'm open to thinking that's possible. But then why were the nets penalized for something the rockets did? Dmo was penalized too. Shouldn't the league have just nullified the rockets action and given him to the nets?
The "He" is @The Cat He actually said we are all "misguided" on social media. Better not be talking about me....grrrrrrrrrr He also said RFA is a "dirty game." He doesn't buy the League Intervention "theory", because Morey "wouldn't take this lying down" and we'd hear something (a leak or something) @The Cat, when you say the Rockets didn't "announce" the signing (which appears to be a pivotal point in your theory), how do you recall FA signings happening in the past? They did submit all the paperwork, hence all the info about the terms, which are read by Woj insiders and such. Bobby Marks read the Offer Sheet for sure, and I assume he read this, too, hence his details. What's the relevance of submitting the contract to the League, but not announcing the "signing." Technical point here: once they do actual sign, they would immediately owe DMo $8.3m (or whatever that final base was), so obviously that was part of why it didn't finalize.
Perhaps the Nets were penalized for that contract that had odd incentives and guarantee dates, seems that BJ and the Nets were working on stuff that was completely unusual and while the Rockets matched, they really DIDN'T match, they matched a minimum amount to force DMo back to the negotiating table. Causing more bad blood - and it looks like the commissioner stepped in and went...Nope to you, and nope to you...DMo you are an UFA....yet you can't sign with these 2 bad children.....and the Rockets and the Nets got penalized. DD
it struck me as weird that the Rox were able to 'rework' the Nets deal... either you match the contract or you don't... i understand they didn't have to match incentives but reworking other stuff just seemed fishy to me to begin with... but still don't understand why the nets got penalized...
It was all by the book, because DMo didn't show up. They matched. DMo failed to show. Due to no-show, Rox can "cancel" the match and make him RFA again, and Nets lose ability to sign him for a year *at this point in the saga* so, They screwed themselves (one could argue), because they signed an Offer Sheet with which the player refused to comply. That can only be a no-no. So, you're screwed for signing an Offer Sheet that the player didn't fairly follow through with. Rockets cancelled Offer Sheet, which was in their right And they signed a new contract
Lol at the handful of posters who are saying this will harm our ability to sign free agents. Winning teams attract players. I think everything else is overblown
It doesn't make sense if he thinks he's healthy enough to play a full season. He'd be stuck making much less than he's worth if he was healthy and playing to his potential.... That wasn't a "I'm healthy" contract.
To me, this is very unfair to the team that sign the offer sheet. They have no control over what the player will do after the offer is matched. Why are they being punished? This is clearly a loophole if the matching team and the player can simply tear up the offer sheet just by the player not showing up. In case someone wants to flame me for being sympathetic to the Nets, I am not. I am talking in general, not the Rockets or DMo, or the Nets.
Penalized? As in, they won't be able to sign a guy who has a broken back? My sources are telling me the Rockets and Nets don't view that as a penalty.
Thanks for the breakdown! so a player can sign a contract with another team... and then totally blow it off to re-sign with their existing team under totally different parameters....? Or sign a contract and then decide - nahhhhh.... So, for example, if a team signs a player to a 'poison pill' contract (Asik, Lin, etc..) their original team could say 'we'll pay you all the $, but we're gonna change the contract to eliminate the poison pill aspect'? If it's all guaranteed money... If anybody should get penalized it should be Utah! If they really were offering more money after DMo had signed a contract...
I said this earlier. I dont see why the offer sheet team can't pick up a player the other team doesnt want and puts back out on market. What possible violations make it where they need to get frozen out after an offer. Trying to think of improper acts by the offer sheet team why its just ONE Shot or Get Lost for a year, but can't.
