Of course he is, all smart Rockets fans know he would have or could have helped..... Losing him for NOTHING is not a good result. Yep. DD
How was Motiejunas bullied to take an even worse contract? He could have taken the one the Rockets initially offered after matching.
My problem with this theory is that the Rockets just releasing him seems like a very strange resolution. This is a conclusion where everyone loses. Rockets lose an asset, Nets can no longer make an offer (?), and Motiejunas takes the chance he won't see another contract that lucrative. If they say tearing up the matched contract isn't allowed, seems like the resolution should be to force Motie onto it, and then the Rockets would have to choose to waive him. Sounds instead like tearing up the contract was allowed but signing the new contract was not. Maybe they lose the restriction when they tear up the matched contract?
In all scenarios you can think of, Rockets can still void contract and renounce him. This is because he failed to show on the Offer Sheet match. They can void and renounce, if league rolls back to that status. They can also void and renounce RFA rights, if league allows new contract. What the Rockets did doesn't help us figure out what happened.
Holding DMo to that contract would have screwed up our flexibility this summer, and we all know how Morey loves to keep maximum flexibility to make moves. So then the question becomes: Why would they have matched to begin with, if they knew that matched contract screwed up our flexibility? My answer: Because Morey looked at the situation and said, "Hmmm... if DMo doesn't show up for the physical, both the Nets' contract and our matched one become invalid. Then we can draw up a new one that gets DMo his money and get us our flexibility. And the CBA rules don't actually state you can't do that." He lets BJ know about this, and BJ agrees and DMo doesn't show up. The rest is messy history.
This better not backfire, should've stayed away from this dude with all this drama. We don't need any distractions right now..
Just like your previous proposal to not match a Utah offer sheet to DMo while coincidentally trading Brewer to Utah for Boris Diaw's expiring contract would violate the spirit and intent of the CBA. I see your pivot.
I don't think you can lie about passing a physical. Even if he did lie in the public, eventually if he wanted to sign with another team, the reality would surely come out. Anyway, whatever DMo or Morey said about the physical don't matter now. Every team that may want to sign him would be very wary about his physical health.
I mean that was a very team friendly deal they matched... I think they wanted DMo back at that price but something happened to where they said "f- it". I think his back is that messed up, otherwise why hold out for such a crappy contract in terms of guaranteed. That wasn't a contract that screamed "im healthy and ready to prove it".
Like I've said multiple times in this thread. DMo is tainted no matter what Morey said after the Rockets released him for nothing. I don't think saying that a player failed a physical is unethical or uncalled for. Failing a physical should be public info. They just don't need to tell the details.
I hope this is the last DMo thread, whoever think this drama deserve more threads need to take a break from posting
