If Dmo where allowed to go to Nets it would look like the League was rewarding his bad behavior (holding out).
wait, are we sure he passed his second? I thought we pulled the offer because something came up in the physical. otherwise, he would be here, right
1) We are 19-7 on a 8 game winning streak on pace to have high 50s/60 wins making us pseudo contenders and the team has good chemistry again. 2) the DMo saga has been long drawn and an emotional roller coaster ride that is no longer amusing and has become annoying to everyone involved 3) Dmo is not a top 50 player, plus he has a ton of baggage including health risks, spurned history and a shady agent Too bad it didn't work out. Good luck DMo. Don't expect any tribute videos.
I don't get how so many Rockets fans actually CELEBRATE this happening. The Rockets have been screwed. Even if you don't think DMo is a good player, we just lost a good asset for NOTHING because of NONE of the Rockets' fault. DMo has been screwed. Because of all the bad reps and fishy physicals, his market value is going to drop even lower. He could have made at least 8.5 millions. Now he is likely going to get less. The Nets have been screwed. They clearly wanted DMo. Now the Rockets took that away FOR NOTHING. The league has been screwed. No matter what they tried to do damage control, RFA will never be the same because of this precedent. I told you. When the end comes, it would be a stupid ending, no matter which side you are on.
Even then, there's still reason for him to be upset in that the only reason Morey didn't match the likely incentives from the Nets deal is in order to keep playing hardball in an effort to get the dates changed. Perhaps that change was a bridge too far for the NBA and if you are DMo, the constant dickery from the Rockets FO would get annoying quickly. The whole ordeal would have been over long ago if Morey had just matched the Nets offer with the likely incentives included. I'd be pretty mad if someone messed around till the whole thing fell apart.
What we DONT know is HOW the league got involved, or WHO got them involved - the Nets? Rockets? BJ? That'd make GREATER sense of this whole thing to see who forced who's hand. At the end through league coercion or physical, I think the UN-Morey like move of letting D-Mo go UNRESTRICTED free agency was doing a solid choosing to retain good image and working relations with future agents, instead of the unrelenting asset management that still had risks involving D-Mo both on-court and in cap flexibilty All this, just so D-Mo gets Terrence Jones'ed out of here anyway
Interesting, and I see your point. But we do know these things: 1. Nobody official source actually said that DMo failed this most recent physical. They said there were "issues" after he took the physical. DMo himself said he passed it. 2. The league office DID get involved for some reason. 3. Morey relinquished the team's claim on DMo, something that goes against his history as a GM when you consider all the other factors involved.
This is so true here that nobody won here. If we are looking for blame here I still say BJ made the biggest blunders here, and while we wont ever get confirmation about offers back in July/Aug, we do know that even if he didn't get the offers to secure a deal sooner, he still messed up majorly by not advising D-Mo to take the QO. They take the QO and its a done deal. For the Rockets... it sucks again because we lost a player we invested 4 years in on his rookie contract, and developed him on their watch for nothing, and on top of that HAD A DRAFT PICK secured for him and lost that under their nose thanks to Detroit getting cold feet. The Rockets lost here, but the silver lining is that Dekker, Harrell, and even Wiltjer eventually will all take a bigger step forward due to more PT being available. Who knows... the gains they see from those three could outweigh D-Mo anyways. However I would say that the League got lucky here that this situation happened with Donatas Motiejunas (a legend here, but not a well know player outside of Houston) and not a Lebron James/Kevin Durant type that could have SERIOUSLY screwed up labor negotiations.
I have many thoughts, but I will try to be brief... Why are people salty with DMo? Because its dragged on this long? Because he's trying to get what he feels he is worth? Because he feels slighted by an organization that tried to trade him? I get DMo's perspective, so I'm not mad at him. Why are people (if any) upset with DM? Because he tried to trade DMo to gain a valuable asset? Because he "didn't do right by DMo"? Because he's trying to make this team better any way that he can? I'm not mad at Morey either. A healthy DMo probably could have helped this team, but we have no idea if he's going to hold up. So, I'm good with the Rockets moving on. If Morey truly felt like DMo would/could stay healthy, he would probably be on this team. Truth is, none of us know what the hell is going on. So, I'm going to reserve any judgement and wait to form an opinion until I know the facts. All I really care about is the success of this team. It's more than obvious that the Rockets have something going here so that's where my focus will be. I'm glad the distraction is over for the most part. Im not mad and I don't really care anymore. WE ARE WINNING.
When the league wants to, they can shut down leaks. Trades/Signings/Draft picks ... all that stuff isn't really leaks they care about. But there are many stories whose details are never immediately leaked. Show me articles surrounding the days prior, day of, and immediate days after that broke the Basketball Reasons story. I think it is indeed your option "C". anyhoot ... nice write up. I'll be interested in any final story, but man, I just want to move on, now. Exhausted working through all the scenarios in my mind, honestly
I don't see how the Rockets messed up. If anything, this is an unprecedented case of a player and an agent making idle threats in order to get what they want, and they went with a scorched earth method at the end of the day because they didn't get what they want. If you want to be upset, you should be upset at either D-Mo or his agent.
What if this ends up being a "basketball reasons" boon for the Rockets? Last time the league intervened in Rockets negotiations, it indirectly got the Rockets one James Edward Harden Jr.
Wonder if the Rockets received any kind of compensation for letting him walk? It just doesn't make any sense. He is/was a really good player. D'antoni had big plans for him. He was always talking about giving him "starter minutes" during training camp. I even remember Dmo posting a pic of himself having dinner with D'antoni over the summer! So if D'antoni wanted him and ownership is all in with MDA how is it that Morey lets him go?! Even if Donatas was an ^%$# during negotiations you would still want him as a trade asset plus that contract was very reasonable. There's a lot of information we are not getting. I don't think it's just a little bit we don't know. I think there's tons of stuff that went down and maybe we never hear about because of the league's involvement. I also wonder if there is some friction now between MDA, Morey, and Les because of how this was handled. I'm pretty sure MDA is not happy with the end result - that's for sure.. Very very strange stuff. Hopefully someone spills the beans.
