The NBA stepping in and blocking the second contract lines up with what Dmo said to Joel Blank. Dmo said on twitter at least once that him being sent home had nothing to do with his health.
What bullish!t... not the way this should've played out. That contract was way too friendly to let him go free and clear with no compensation. There's clearly a lot more to this story but to think that we walk away for nothing is horsesh!t.
Yep on all counts. Morey probably threw a huge sh!tfit with the league: "I did nothing wrong! I followed YOUR rules!" The league disagreed and gave Morey the option of forcing DMo to honor the incentive-less matched offer contract or cutting him loose entirely. With that in mind, here's what I don't get. One of these three things had to have occurred after the league made that decision: * Morey decided he wasn't okay with the bad option-guarantee dates he'd have to stick to and UFA'd him. If that's the case, why did he match the Nets' offer to begin with? * Morey felt bad about holding DMo to the lesser contract. I don't buy this one. * BJ said that if the Rox stuck with the lesser contract, DMo would continue to hold out. Morey said, "You know what? We're doing okay. Ciao, DMo."
D-Mo has had his moments. Many of us don't understand the headache for a player who shot 44% from 3 on 4 of 9 during a 5-game playoff series (they left him open). D12 (back) was considered a top center in the NBA at the time and JJ Watt (back) is considered the top defensive player in the NFL for the past few yrs. You take a chance on a guy with back injuries....some more than others. D-Mo is D-Mo.
Yes and no. He "failed" the Pistons' physical last year. He passed the recent Nets physical. He didn't show up for the first Rox physical. He passed the second Rox physical. The only one he failed is the Pistons' cold-feet one.
Saturday night when the Rockets sent Dmo home they had to feed him some BS on why he had to go home because they did not want to tell him that the league was reviewing the second contact. Judging by Dmo's initial reaction it looked like the rockets where tying to keep him on a need to know basis on the involvement of the league office.
Moment of truth holic, DMo no longer restrained by the Rockets. Time for him to sign his lucrative large contract that you been talking about.
Besides the Morey Wizard Wink, that's my view of it as well. Though I said BJ whined to league to intervene. But the league just doesn't like the precedent of tearing up deals thru physicsl-reasons, since it doesn't give offer sheet teams chance to poach talent. And league made Morey have to take the Nets original unfriendly offer Oddly enough its the NETS that are getting screwed maybe the most. Why should they or an offer sheet team be blocked from getting a player the other team doesn't want? What improper approach did the Nets take where it's like "You had your ONE CHANCE, now you get NO MORE!". Why do Rockets or the other team get the option to penalize you? Lol
As for Joel Banks, he's got an axe to grind against the Rockets. His take on this is about as valid as Charles Barkley's would be.
So in trying not to set a new precedent they actually set one? I somehow feel this thing is not over yet.
