The bottom line is that Kiffin presented too much of a risk. Both in terms of behavior and in terms of flight risk. Major has probably the *most to prove* out of all the candidates, but it's not like he didn't deserve a HC job very soon. If he flames out here, we get one more chance to make a good hire before the next (and likely final) round of G5 promotions happen. If Kiffin flamed out here, he probably would have done so by either leaving us high and dry after 1 season and/or by bringing down multiple sanctions on us (which would all but kill our P5 candidacy).
lol supposedly people want to say we missed out on Lane Kiffin but the best job he could get was becoming the next head coach for Florida Atlantic. Yeah we totally missed out there.
dont really think the reports were as close as they made it seem. For someone that is supposed to be so great (a former HC in the NFL/top college teams) who has lead Alabama's offense to historically great numbers, barely anyone wants him so that says a lot about him as a person.
Houston AD Hunter Yurachek says new coach Major Applewhite will make base salary $1.5 million. Contract for @UHCougarFB coach @CoachApplewhite includes remaining value + 50% more for Texas schools. Incentives in @CoachApplewhite contract call for $100,000 for each win after 9. If goes unbeaten in regular season would be extra $400,000 - Joseph Duarte
He was in a very unusual spot. He was going to be the UH football coach until things fell apart at the end. After the UH job opportunity passed, there wasn't much left to go after. Kiffin is a boom or bust candidate.... but he is the best offensive mind in college football, his players love him and he is an exceptional recruiter. He has a record of being a **** head when he was younger, and that past haunts him.
So, if Kiffin had so few options at the end, why didn't he just stay as OC at Alabama? Oh yea, they didn't renew his contract. Sorry dude, she's just not that into you.
Wasn't Bama planning on not having Kiffin around after this season anyway? That's why they brought in Sark.
That's more than decent. Sounds really high to me, I'm pretty sure most college head coaches don't have it that high. I'm surprised Major agreed to that.
De'Andre Johnson would of been a Cougar. He play style is similar to Ward Jr, actually he has identical weight and height with Johnson. He has baggage, but if changes for the better, it will a reflection of the coach and UH. We passed a golden opportunity.
I haven't kept up with the circus much, so is Kyle staying? I thought I had heard rumors he would go with Herman. Or is that not possible?
The tweet bobrek is likely referring to: It certainly is possible for him to transfer as a graduate student, but based on his tweets it doesn't seem likely. Starting quarterback is basically his job to lose
