How do you know it didn't happen like that? Maybe Houston sent out some numbers before RFA began to try and get it done early so he wouldn't go looking for another deal for us to match. Maybe he felt there was a market for him out there where he could find a bigger deal and have us match. Turns out there wasn't a better deal. So, he could have signed the qualifying offer for 1 year and become a FA next summer. He decided not to do that. So why should we up offers and all of that and basically bid against ourselves? That is not good business. And I'm not getting on you im just making points. I think we as fans come from a fandom point of view and like our players and want them on the team because we feel they can help, but if you are the GM looking over the cap and planning for the future, you have to have business sense and get the best deals you can on players. DMo is not a franchise player, he is a role player with a serious injury history. You don't break the bank on those players, you negotiate deals for them. 7pts and 4 rebs a game don't get you 10+mil a year. Sorry. If he thought he was worth that, sign the QO and play 1 year, put up good numbers, then go get paid. Houston obviously wasn't the only team that didn't think he was worth a big deal this summer...
You know, he's just trying to do what's best for our team...not sure some of you guys understand this, no disrespect, just saying...oh, and why didn't you guys help Les paying D.Mo so we could've raise our offer this summer if you want him so bad and/or you think he can make such a big difference (which is something no one else in the business thinks btw)?
First, I am helping Less financially by purchasing league pass just to watch the Rockets play. Everyone that ever bought a game ticket or Rockets merchandise is helping Less to make this team better. Regarding criticising Morey's negotiating methods- We all want this team to do better. No one is saying that Morey is trying to harm the team. He's a great GM. One of the best in the league and his methods of shuffling and treating people like assets have brought results. However it's not coincidence that a player is doing whatever he can to minimise the power of the team to trade him. This is because of the reputation we have of not doing right by the players but doing cold cut business oriented decisions. Like I said many times and I truly believe it. In this league players do have power. In someway much more than the real world. If we have a certain reputation that derives medium-good players to sign with us then we have a problem. Not saying it's on us again. If D-mo really wanted out and was smart he would've signed the original offer for 1 year and becomes aa FA next summer. I don't care about D-mo, I do care about how we come out as a team from all this.
Morey didn't open with his best offer because he is not Isiah Thomas!! Geez guys. The GM is the organizations head negotiator. It is in the organizations best interest to acquire and retain talent as efficiently as possible. I want my GM to focus on that objective, not overpaying the 7th man on the team so he feels "wanted".
DM has always been "accused" by scrubs that he traded as being "cold" or of treating players like assets, but how many situations have you heard of it actually coming back to bite us. AB came back to us multiple times. Scola was willing to come back to us, even if we headed in another direction. Chuck Hayes came back. Ariza passed off the Wizards situation and money to sign with us. Ego signed with us for cheap. Patrick Beverley re-signed as well despite claims he had a bigger offer from the Mavs. Point is, players understand it's a business and the team will always place its interest above that of an individual, unless said individual is the future of the team. Getting a team friendly contract is absolutely what we want out of DM when dealing with players like D-Mo, who realistically barely moves our needle.
I really think DMo would do a lot better with this team, offense, MDA... He would already be our most versatile and best passing big. He would definitely add another dimension there. Wonder if we could trade him for Bogut?
So, wait a minute. You're saying that he should have matched the Dallas offer? What did he do to Yao Ming that was unfair?
Well, you should help him way more if you want him to overpay a injury prone bench player, other people purchase league pass and/or tickets, but as you can see they're totally ok in paying D.Mo what the market values him, which is what happens all the time btw. If the market said D.Mo has this value, why in the hell should our organization pay more ffs? About the players i don't know, others already said and posted facts which demonstrate the opposite, it's just not true that players don't want to be here because of what you're saying...maybe there're some cases, but ask the Morris if they want to go back in Phoenix, ask Wade if he wants back in Miami, ask Rondo if he wants back in Dallas...i'm pretty sure there might be someone not willin to come here (Kevin Martin is one we know for sure right?), but yeah, it happens. The funny thing is that actually, i am a big D.Mo fan lol
When things get this quiet it's never good. Easy to guess: Rockets do not want D-Mo Nets no longer want D-Mo (for the amount they signed him for at least) D-Mo is suing the Rockets for hurting his value (it's not their fault) I doubt the Rockets are liable for any damages as long as they failed D-Mo for a valid reason. They followed the rules.
You have to think BJ is playing a big role in this latest holdout. He HAS TO do something to redeem his reputation (if at all possible) if he wants to continue his career.
So how much are you actually contributing to the millions that are paid to these players? What maybe.01%. Yes we are helping Les for sure. Bwhahaha
For the people idiotically hating on Rockets, understand this very simple truth, if a team really wanted D-Mo, he would be signed and playing already. The reason thins have taken so long to even get to this point is because no one really wants him. Teams would like to have him at the right price, but that's about it.
Wiltjer recalled. Maybe this whole Dmo thing was a way to get BBrown off the team without pissing James off.
Just a little. Not going to say too much. However as I have already stated, Rockets sent MDA on basically a recruiting trip with MDA attempting to sell DMo on the idea of the offense flowing through DMo when Harden sits. MDA was serious about that. But Morey was simply trying to hold DMo in place on a small cap hold in order to complete his free agent business of signing guys and renegotiating with Harden. DMo on a small cap hold allowed for all that. (Other stuff happened) Then when Anderson and Gordon had agreed to their deals Morey's goal to either sign-and-trade DMo or to retain him on a contract that Morey could use in trade at the deadline became cheeky evident. That's why I kept saying after the Anderson signing that DMo was most likely going to be signed and traded, either immediately or at the deadline. (More stuff happened) Trade didn't happen and BJ claimed Rockets weren't doing enough to sign him. They weren't. Morey was playing trade scenarios for him to keep teams from gambling on an offer sheet and a higher salary. Much funny business ensued at this point and on into the regular season. By the way, everything I mentioned is common with valued non-max free agents. Happens all the time by almost every team. The difference is over the last couple summers the agents, not just BJ but also Rich Paul and others, have started playing games themselves and using whatever leverage is necessary to get deals done that favor their client, going beyond the spirit of the CBA because they feel teams have done it for years. Now we are going to face increasingly more cases where neither side is negotiating in good faith. If the new CBA doesn't address RFA more thoroughly these situations are going to multiply. That's all I'm going to say for now. Let the flaming begin.
I support this team by buying full season tickets for a few years now. I have ZERO issue with how Morey handles this situation. If you can't see how DMo thinks he's the exception to all the rules then there is not talking to you... Morey is in a position where he gets burned if he breaks the rules. DMo is in a position that he can try all the methods he can to get the best deal.... BUT nobody really wants to pay the guy...Because if there were no issues with him he would have been signed to that mega contract before the season. Just saying... I pay plenty of money for the tickets but there are several other people doing that too. It's not a group vote on what happens.
