Absolutely agree. Their AD just uses this to distract the fans from the fact that they let most of them down with the Major hire. I was always in favor of hiring him but they played up how important it was to go out and get a name. It ended up feeling a lot like Boren making a big deal about expansion and then the big 12 didn't bring anyone in. The same goes with publicly announcing the home on home offer they made with UT instead of keeping negotiations private. That's just bush league and IMO discourages other schools from entering negotiations with them. It's also ridiculous how they make such a big deal about how there is all of this pressure from outside donors on the coach when their richest booster who is ALSO a regent publicly says that Major will be fired unless he gets a certain amount of wins. UT would get slammed if a regent or booster said that. UT really wanted to keep Charlie if he would have had a halfway decent season while UH fired their last coach despite having a better record than Charlie. Red Mccombs is off by himself in San Antonio. Landry's dude is your boss. I think the Major hire was a great call and I'm really excited for him. It's crazy the giant difference in salary he is getting compared to what they would have to pay for Les Miles and Kiffin but he obviously has a lot to prove. UH just saved so much money hiring him instead of firing and buying out Major and the other staffers Herman didn't take with him and then hiring all new assistants for Miles or Kiffin. I think it makes sense that the buyout be the coach's complete salary. I think it's kind of shitty that it's double his salary which means that UH would make money on his firing. However, having to replace your coach after 2 years is really annoying so I get it. It's just not a great way to start a relationship if you are the coach but I'm sure he's very thankful for the opportunity. I agree.
How the mighty have fallen! UT was begging for Herman for 2 years because no one was winning at that Shitstorm called UT football. The fear of losing to UH and hurting UT recruiting is a b**** move...right on par for UT.
2017 Football Schedule 9/2 – MARYLAND 9/9 – SJSU 9/16 – at USC 9/30 – at Iowa State * 10/7 – KANSAS STATE * 10/14 – Oklahoma (Dallas) * 10/21 – OKLAHOMA STATE * 10/28 – at Baylor * 11/4 – at TCU * 11/11 – KANSAS * 11/18 – at West Virginia * 11/25 – TEXAS TECH * 12/2 – Big 12 Championship Some key big 12 changes per ESPN: 1. A new day for Bedlam One of the scheduling necessities for the Big 12 with the return of its conference title game in 2017 was moving Bedlam off the final week of schedule, in order to prevent the possibility of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State playing their rivalry game in back-to-back weeks. As expected, Bedlam is moving to Nov. 4 next year. The Sooners and Cowboys now play three more regular-season games after that big battle. It’s a move that had to be made. One of the things that makes Bedlam special is the huge stakes that tend to come with winning and losing that game. Now the loser of Bedlam still has time to claw its way back into the Big 12 title race. Another upside: Maybe the weather won’t be so bad on Nov. 4, compared to at the end of the month, so we can see these two teams at their very best. 2. Planning out the final week The schedule had to be constructed around that hope of avoiding a Big 12 title game matchup that had just been played a week earlier. So here’s what the league settled on for the final week of the regular season: West Virginia at Oklahoma, Baylor at TCU, Texas Tech at Texas, Iowa State at Kansas State and Kansas at Oklahoma State. No idea how that plan is going to pay off, since it’s not really that easy to guess which teams will be contending for the Big 12 crown 11 months from now. Knowing the Big 12’s luck, the odds of an Oklahoma versus West Virginia showdown in the 2017 Big 12 championship game just got a lot better. 3. Bye weeks come early The return of the Big 12 title game also shakes up how bye weeks are distributed in 2017. Next season, every team in the league gets its one bye week in the first six weeks of the schedule. No byes after Oct. 7. Four Big 12 teams -- Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas and Texas Tech -- will play nine straight conference games without a bye. Of course, at the end of the season, eight Big 12 teams get a bye on Dec. 2. Coaches will definitely like that. West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen recently pointed out the six Big 12 programs that played on Dec. 3 this year had a frustrating disadvantage by missing out on a valuable week of recruiting. 4. First tests for Rhule, Herman Newly hired Baylor coach Matt Rhule gets a doozy of an introduction to Big 12 play. Baylor opens its conference schedule with a home game against defending league champ Oklahoma on Sept. 23. The Bears face Liberty, UTSA and Duke before taking on that big test. Texas coach Tom Herman starts Big 12 play at Iowa State and against Kansas State before making his Red River Rivalry debut. It’s a fitting place for Herman to start off, since he coached in Ames from 2009-2011. 5. Toughest schedule? We’ll figured that out as we get closer and closer to the season, but you can make a good case for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders already an impressively tough nonconference slate of FCS powerhouse Eastern Washington, Arizona State and a road game at Houston. They take on Oklahoma State the week after the Cougars, get no weeks off during league play, and have to play road games at West Virginia, Oklahoma and Texas. It’s going to be a big year for coach Kliff Kingsbury, and that schedule is certainly no cakewalk. It seems like saying the big 12 is trying to avoid repeat matchups implies that they don't expect 1 of the teams in the game to be in contention for the conference but I don't really get that impression from these matchups. You finish with TCU/Baylor which would have been your big 12 game two years ago. Either they weren't actually trying to do that or they don't expect Baylor to recover next year. 3 out of the first 4 games for Texas shouldn't be too tough. I might go to the USC game with a few co-workers. Seems like the middle of the schedule is where all the meat is.
I guess one title in 45 years is better than the zero Houston has.. but not much to brag about for a program that has top 3-5 resources in college football.
Every time I see a picture of Vince Young it makes me sad. Dude has hit some really hard times. He's now a bloated, barely-functioning man-baby sucking on the burnt orange nostalgia teat. Too many enablers at UT and beyond didn't prepare him for life beyond football.
In all honesty Donny and Nook are truly the only UH fans who's opinions I can read. Quality reads, very intelligent brehs with some good takes. PSJ is up there too, I just wish Nook would could quit eating the bait of the dork Longhorn trollers who I also scroll past. The rest who've come out of the woodwork lately are just like flyover states. Scroll or ignore. Ain't got no time to care.
No, I don't think anyone was begging for Herman. I don't know why you're so upset, but you should get over your inferiority complex. Haha. Loser. It seems as though UH fans just can't stay out of this thread. That inferiority complex must just be nagging.
No I don't think they were begging at all. In fact, I don't even think they knew who they were going to hire 2 years ago. At that point Strong was only in his 2nd year and had a pretty solid recruiting class coming in. I don't think anyone is scared of UH. That's again another mysterious thing about Houston fans for some reason. They create these fictitious opinions about their school when there's no real need. It reeks of inferiority.
yep......where else do u go to troll? LOL. So many Pompous asses........lol It's too easy. Don't get me wrong....I have rooted for UH for years. But I graduated from a different university. UT fans are SO DESPERATE to relive the Glory days........They are just sensitive.......lol.
To be the most lucrative sports program in the Country....and to be irrelevant in Football.........IT KILLS those Alumni.
