You are truly blind and ignorant if you can't see the difference between an organization like the Spurs and one like the Rockets.
Stupid post is stupid. Team went to the Western Conference finals and Morey paid the role players, exactly what you say he should do, and it has hurt the team because they weren't good enough. It's crazy to me out of one side of your mouth you praise the Spurs for getting people for less than market value but then bash Morey for not paying guys more than market value. Why can't we be more like the Spurs and get players on the cheap by overpaying them????
Duh of course the Spurs, they win. Dan Gilbert was considered a bad owner though. Lebron shows up, ring chasers follow. Heck, before Lebron won in Miami he couldn't PAY guys to join him in Cleveland which was part of the reason he had to bolt to Miami. The Warriors couldn't get Dwight to buy in over the Rockets and the Clippers had a long run of nobody wanting to be there. Once teams are winners veterans will follow.
Ah, name calling - instead of discussion, how classy of you. I am saying, I want that REPUTATION that the Spurs org has - to be equal in Houston. And, I don't think Les and Morey will ever get there - because of the way they do business. Do you think Harden would stay for less money ala, Ginobli, Leonard, Parker and Duncan all did? It gives you an advantage in being able to build when players feel they are part of it. In Houston, it is get as much as you can - no loyalty - ask Scola, Lowry, Landry, Dmo - on and on and on....we churn that roster - and that does not create that special chemistry. Now, that being said, this year we have a great group - let's see if that is the beginning of something.....unless we kick the can down the road by trading a big piece then we are back to square one. I know it annoys some of you that people can criticise the front office - we can disagree, I am fine with that. DD
Sure, the Rockets weren't player-friendly, but DMo hasn't been team-friendly, either. He didn't sign the Rockets' fair offer, and held out because he wanted them to pay him more than any other team in the league was willing to offer. Neither side is required to capitulate to the other in a negotiation.
Ryan Anderson wanted to come here. Nene has wanted to be here for years. Al Horford, by his own words, said it was EXTREMELY difficult to turn us down for Boston. Dwight CHOSE Houston over Golden State. Francisco Garcia took the minimum coming off a good year to stay with the Rockets. Jason Terry WANTED to stay here. Pat Bev took less to stay here. Corey Brewer WANTED to stay here. Donatas whole problem stems from having his feelings hurt that he was going to get traded, meaning he WANTED to be here.
Agreed, but all of this could have been avoided had the Rockets negotiated a decent deal before he even hit Free Agency - but they do what they always do - let the market set the price. Which tells the player, hey man, we kinda want you but not really. DD
Support the name on the front of the jersey, not the back of it. If you can't get behind the team, find another one. That's all I have to say.
And for all we know, DMo knows he doesn't have much of a career left. He very well may be trying to get guaranteed money knowing that he can't give us the time on the court to justify it. The point is: WE DON'T KNOW what's going on. To take sides without having sufficient knowledge of the situation is pointless and better left to middle-school kids. Plus, I love how some people on here (not naming name, but his initials are DD) talk incessantly about what a poor reputation our front office has with players around the league, as if that's a known fact. You don't know how players view our front office, you only know that crap that gets posted and reposted around here about assets, not caring about players, etc. You take rumors and gossip and convert them to fact as if you have accurate knowledge, when in fact you know nada.
Yes, he did, he kept Corey Brewer and bid against himself for his services.....will give you that. DD
I agree. League probably wants to control info and how it is explained, so told all three parties (HOU, BKN and player) to not say anything. Joel even said DMo is using him as a conduit of info. I don't recall many talking after Stern declared "Basketball Reasons." I don't get the angle of some saying "Morey must be up to something, since he's not saying anything." Even you said that Morey loves to talk. He actually *always* says no-comment to matters of free agency...and he's never said anything this entire 6mos of RFA business with DMo. Why start now, when the league appears to be questioning everyone.
Didn't Trevor sign for less too because he wanted to be here or am I misremembering. I know he left a good situation in Washington where he came off the best individual season of his career and they wanted him back.
Who gets left holding the bag? That's what this is about. If anyone thinks it should be Morey out of some personal spite, thus hurting the Rockets chances of being competitive this year and years to come, then I say Hell to the Nah. I am always a Rockets fan before being a specific player fan. Especially when all the evidence so far looks like that player is specifically trying to screw one over on my Rockets and our leave our team holding the bag so he can cash out & sip mai tais in a back support on a beach somewhere the rest of his life. I'm a big Nope on that. D-Mo can eat separately from my Rockets team. Karma, poetic justice, just deserts and all that Jazz. The entire court of public opinion is already coming down hard on the side of the Rockets with this whole circus. It shows all future free agents, "Look, we're not dummies that allow ourselves to be taken advantage of." I think it's a huge stretch to say this ordeal mars player's opinion of the Rockets FO.
Win a bunch of titles. We had that in the first few years under Les. Guys took less to try to win rings here and then it blew up because everyone was old and washed up. This is such a myth. It has been debunked so many times. Parker and Ginobli and Duncan didn't take "less" they hit free agency at bad times for them; injuries and underperformance. Duncan actually almost left for Orlando until the Spurs gave him the max the first time. Leonard signed for a max extension. This offseason Ginobli used the 76ers to get the Spurs to pay him way more than they wanted to. You perceive something that isn't really happening. Only at the end did Duncan start showing total loyalty to the Spurs where he wouldn't even bother to negotiate and just take a team friendly deal. Again, more myth. The spurs churn their roster as well. What they have kept together is a championship core. You want the Rockets to keep everyone together when they aren't a championship team and then b**** about them not winning titles. That's just silly. WRONG. I criticize them too. I was very critical of the decision to keep the WCF team together because I knew it wasn't good enough. It was Morey following your strategy of just overpaying role players that led to that mistake.
Sure, he made couple millions, but younger players have made more. OK, let's rephrase that, this might be the last or last but not least deal in the NBA. He has not proven himself. One season of good basketball merely does secure couple more trials. Eventually he is going to be a journeyman or out of the league altogether. You can be indifferent to this, but I am not, I have not wasted time talking about him, and having him suffer from this.
Ginobli, Leonard, Parker and Duncan = Scola, Lowry, Landry, Dmo If only Morey wasn't such a crook, we'd have a dynasty! DD
waaaa my feelings are hurt! guess what, its a business. they can trade you if they want, just like how you can choose to not sign a qualifying offer. don't feel bad for him
