So... we're pretty much sure DMo is not joining the Rockets. But this delay is to protect his career and future?
I think they have been told by the league to not say anything - this is more than DMo and the Rockets this is also a perception on the league/RFA etc. They want this resolved in a way that works for everyone - so everyone can move on......I am sure that is what is going on here. DD
I agree with you that DMo feels he's been mistreated. However, let's keep in mind that he's the same guy who held out for all these months, creating a potential issue with the roster. If DMo thinks he's fully healed but the doctors think there are still current (or potential future) issues, then I don't care at all what the DMo thinks. Players always think they should be starting, should be getting more minutes, etc. Just because a player has feelings about something doesn't make it an accurate assessment of the situation.
You think it might be possible that Morey just isn't allowed to say anything until everything's resolved? It's been posted dozens of times; this is a business for both sides, always has been. You sound completely clueless or have a clear agenda against the FO. Likely both.
We can examine the entire thing when this is over, but my take on him holding out - he did not want to be traded.....is that such a bad thing? He signed a contract that he knew the Rockets would match - and then the Rockets matched, but did not match the incentives - DMo once again feels frustrated and then has to agree to a similar deal that screws him out of his 2nd year guarantee. The Rockets have played within the rules - but have not been player friendly here, and DMo is right in pointing it out. He has probably had enough, and I don't want him here if he is going to be a cancer in the clubhouse.....do we need him, HELL yes, we need a 7'1" post player who plays excellent positional defense - right now at the C position we have a Twig (Capela) and a shrimp (Nene) - we need someone who can play a little taller, and the benefit of being a 3pt threat is HUGE in having some other options. However, it is clear that the Rockets and Morey really don't want DMo - you can look at actions more than you can look at words, they lowballed him with a contract offer - they took advantage of the New Jersey deal to screw him out of his 2nd year guarantee, and then tore up that contract and now as holding the whole thing up - probably because of a physical. What I think is happening is the league is trying to find a way within the rules for him to go to New Jersey for the deal he signed..... DD
This will be interesting From what some people have said - my understanding is DMo forced the Rockets to renegotiate . . . . by holding out. The Renegotiation means that the Rockets defaulted on the deal . . .so it should revert back to the nets So basically DMo . . .defacto forced the deal he wanted . . .by holding out? Weird Rocket River
DMo holding out forced their hand in tearing up the contract You seem so PRO DMo and ANTI-Rockets . . . . You give DMO every benefit of the doubt . . . while wanting to hold the Rockets feet to the fire on every little detail. I know I know .. DMo is a great guy and Morey is a math nerd Rocket River
You would think this would be resolved soon, but we have been saying that for a bit now. I am almost always Pro - player in negotiations. And I don't like the way that Morey negotiates I think it causes bad blood with players. I want a better reputation around the league than we currently have - I want us to be a destination for players to come here, not only because we have cap room, but that they WANT to come here... I am jealous of San Antonio when they can get David West type of talent to sign for peanuts....we don't have that type of org that players around the league want to come to and play. I want that. DD
I think the NBA needs to have an independent sports doctor exam and run test on DMO and if he passes the Rockets have to take him and maybe pay a fine. If he fails then what? I don't know, just wish this would be settled soon!
The difference being..... when somebody is fighting for his life and his career income, that is crossing the business line. Morey's job might be dependent on his moves but I had not the impression that his job was under massive pressure from Alexander. He got more security than McHale, than JVG and more than JBB for sure. He is still standing. Morey being on the hot seat was being speculated on basketball forums but there was no actual sign of sacking. But this could be a game changer for Dmo's career
You use words like "screw" or "screwed" and that represents a severe bias. DMo and his agent tried to manipulate restricted free agency in a way to get them the money they wanted and limit the Rockets ability to trade him. That is not part of a standard NBA contract, so they were trying to use tactics at their disposal to "have their cake and eat it too." It blew up in their face. That isn't the Rockets screwing them out of anything, that's them choosing to play a game and getting burned by the rules they chose to participate in.
Medical tests are so subjective. I am sure the guys who have the UCL issues are passing physicals. That didn't stop the Astros from amending/canceling contracts.
Since the league has stepped in sort of, whatever has happened or happening is unprecedented I would say and will be a landmark case...either in current and future RFA and CBA rules and agreements or loop holes, if any was found.
I feel you, but I think that has a lot more to do with 5 championships since 1999 than just Morey's negotiation tactics.
I'd take Nene over David West. Just sayin' Also, I feel like those arrangements come along more often when a team is consistently in contention at the highest level (i.e. more than a few homers think you have a reasonable chance at the finals this year), like the Spurs, Cavs and Warriors. I don't see the Torontos, Clippers, Grizzlies of the NBA getting those deals.
I think everything is considered. Look at Boban from this last year - he got offered 3m to stay in San Antonio - but 21m to leave - he went to Pop wanting to stay and Pop told him that they could not pay that, and that he should TAKE that money..... I mean - he WANTED to stay for 4m less per year. Meanwhile in Houston if you are a ROLE player it seems you have to scratch and claw every nickle.....and then watch as we go spend 20m a year on a ROLE player. It is that sort of inconsistent behavior that causes issues. DD
It's amazing what being a championship contender every year will do for you isn't it? LOL They don't go to San Antonio because they love the GM, they go because they want to win a ring. 4 years ago the Warrior fans would be saying the same thing you are saying and now they are in the same boat with players signing for the minimum. When Lebron was in Miami, Cleveland was a dead zone. Nobody wanted to play for the Cavs. Lebron goes back and guys latch on for nothing to get a taste of the championship teet. Championship ready teams get players on the cheap.
Are you serious? He's already made millions of dollars playing a ****ing game. He has since then turned down multiple offers to make tens of millions of dollars playing a game and failed to report to the offer he DID get signed to.
There is some of that for sure, but which front office has the better reputation around the league? Ours or theirs? DD
