I think I'll go with the logic of not wasting a H&H on a non power football program when you can go with a traditional power instead. But I understand how some can get common sense and scared confused. It doesn't make much sense, in any way, to do one of those with UH when you can do one with say, OSU. UT has an ability to schedule other schools that make more sense on all fronts. Why would they not do that?
Texas is funny. It makes fun of College Station for thinking too highly of itself yet clamors on about running the Big 12 when the Sooners have owned that league since its inception. Hell Nebraska and Baylor are only one B12 championship shy of tying Texas with 3.
Lol what an awesome bully move. UT would rather pay than face UH...AFTER they just stole our hot stuff coach. The triple dog dare is publicly stating "Y'all are cowards. We were better than you before Herman and we will be better than you after Herman." It's like Brave Heart and UH is William Wallace and UT is that perfume-ass pansy.
Texas has been playing Rice since 1914. I don't believe they scheduled a home and home with UTSA. And UTSA is a school in the UT system. It makes sense for them to cut UTSA a check.
UTEP is also part of the UT system, and their stadium seats over 51K. In the last 10 years UT's non conference road games have been with Cal, Notre Dame, BYU, Ole Miss, UCLA, Wyoming, Rice (been playing since 1914) and UTEP (system school). Going forward so far it's USC, Maryland, LSU and Rice. There isn't any reason to schedule UH over the power schools I just mentioned, where you can market the brand in a different part of the country. There isn't any reason to schedule UH over longtime opponent Rice if you want a game in front of Houston kids. There isn't any reason to schedule UH over system schools. Sense and scared are two different words. There just isn't any logical reason to schedule UH. For what?
The UTSA game was in the same year as Cal and Notre Dame who anyone would expect to be tough. Criticizing Texas for not scheduling only power house schools for all of their non conference games is silly. It's called tradition. Texas and Rice have played 93 times and their game is cited in one of the most famous presidential speeches of all-time. There is a reason for that. There is no denying that Texas has had the advantage. None at all. However, to compare UT's choice to play Rice instead of Houston is missing the point completely. Furthermore, you can talk about UT's choice to not schedule UH but to suggest that UT doesn't schedule good non-conference games is silly. You can't guarantee that all these teams will be good when you schedule them but they are programs that typically do well: Notre Dame, Ohio St, USC, UCLA, Cal, LSU, Michigan and Arkansas. The last one is the only that hasn't had a run of recent success. In the years that Texas plays rice, they also play LSU, Arkansas and Ohio St. They also only have 3 non-conference games. It didn't take long for the "Texas is scared of UH" talk to come back. Nothing like that to divert the lukewarm reaction the fans have to the school's choice.
UT fans still use that bleacher gate game in 2001 as a reason not to play UH. LOL The FEAR is STRONG.
UH sports trolling is almost as amusing as bigtexxx Riceboy sports trolling. ETA: why in god's name can't you fix your joke of a basketball program? Since you want to rep the City of Houston and all. You should all be embarrassed that things fell to pieces and then stayed that way for the past 25 years or so. PhiSlammaDon'tGiveADamna
You should be embarrassed. If Texas was so scared of UH, then why did UT officials and the governor (a UT alumnus) actively campaign for UH to join the same conference as Texas?
I forgot about that. You mean when UT and UH had a contractual agreement for a certain number of seats, UH pulled the bleachers and refused UT's request to move the game to the dome in order to accommodate the stipulation in their contract? UT had to issue refunds for 4,000 tickets 3 days before the game. The only solution from the UH AD was for UT fans to go to the UH basketball arena to watch the game on TV. Do you seriously not see how shitty that was? UT couldn't sue them for breach of contract but they can avoid being screwed again. I mean you can argue this as a factor if someone brings it up but you volunteering it in this discussion seems strange. It makes UH look bad. Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.
"Embarrassed"? "Joke"? Those two words describe the UT football program. You know the program (and alums/fans) that are always there to beat their chest how great they are. How they think they can have whatever they want. That they have more money then any other program in the country. Just looked at the list of bowl games, forty of them (EIGHTY schools), and how PATHETIC, EMBARRASSING and a JOKE that the WHORNS weren't good enough to go bowling. In fact they didn't go bowling last year, again how PATHETIC, EMBARRASSING and a JOKE!!! I'll say it again, there's NO program in the country that does less with more than Texas.
UT not wanting to play UH in football makes complete sense to me. No worries. But avoiding them in basketball? Why? UH/UT bball would be fun.
