The ex-player featured in our game against the Mavericks is no other than Major Jones. He aided our hero, Moses Malone, to the NBA Finals. When Moses was traded to the 76ers, not only did we receive Ralph Sampson as a result, but we also got Major Jones' brother, Caldwell. That's kind of a cool story about our Rockets and the brotherhood within. Major actually had 3 brothers though, and all three brothers played for the same college team that he did, Albany. And all four made brothers made it to the NBA. And of the four that played in the NBA, three played for the Rockets. The youngest of the four NBA and Albany brothers was Charles Jones. And Charles Jones came out of nowhere to help the Rockets win a championship in 1995. And coming out of nowhere is not always what it seems because sometimes it comes out of a family that was already in Houston. History can be an incredible web at times.
I remember after the Moses trade, Major Jones said something like, "I lost a star teammate but gain a brother." Major wasn't very talented, but he was a good guy. My roommate asked me, "That guy's name's really Major? His parents really named him Major?" LOL.
