I realize that. That's why I brought it to your attention amidst this deluge of names that really aren't the true target. To get you to think. Bev Harden George DeMarcus Dekker
i heard a whisper the other day that was morey would be interested in Leonard if the Spurs ever wanted to part ways. I am not an insider though. I'm actually a sorcerer
No one is pretending like Paul George isn't a target. Morey has gone on to say multiple times that the best way to win a championship is to have stars. We only have one. If we're being realistic we should think of players who are stars or have the possibility of becoming a star. The we must look at players in bad situations that could possibly force the player to leave. IE: Chris Bosh in Toronto, Carmelo Anthony in New York, Dwight Howard in Orlando/Los Angeles, Al Horford in Atlanta. These are all stars we have gone after because they are in bad situations or would be better in Houston. The players currently that any rational fan can align with those names are Paul George, DeMarcus Cousins, and John Wall. All superstars in bad situations that any team would want if it were possible to get them. I'm positive Jimmy Butler was put on that list too before this season. The problem is that we have no where near the assets to trade for any of those players. Players we do have assets to trade for though could be a Tobias Harris, Danilo Gallinari, Brook Lopez, Jahlil Okafor, or a Wilson Chandler. The guys I listed are good players who could be in unfavorable situations, but still give Houston a chance to trade for. For example Brook Lopez. I'm not too big of a fan of him, but he's one of the best scorers at his position and his time in Brooklyn may be up despite his loyalty. If we can't trade for Paul George out right, and he doesn't enter free agency until 2018 then what should we do? Perhaps if we felt like Lopez would really make the team significantly better then Capela, K.J., Brewer, and a 1st may entice Brooklyn. Not saying I'm for it, but when Codman or anyone brings up these random names it's not because they are higher on the list than players like Cousins or George. It just means that Houston has plenty of options and trading for Danilo is more likely than trading for Paul George simply because the price tag for Danillo is lower than George's. We have nothing that Larry Bird would want for PG. The Kings have refused multiple rumored packages that would make a fan who wished for the Boogie nightmare finally end wet his pants. It's near impossible to trade for Cousins. Washington has a higher chance of trading for Cousins than we do since they have Bradley Beal who isn't a good player, but Sacramento would be dumb enough to bite. Rockets secretly wanting Paul George isn't this incredible secret and when Cod talks about Tobias it's not like his sources are giving him some sort of smoke screen. Personally, I don't want Tobias because I don't think he makes the team better and I'm not sure if Cod even said that we're after Tobias. Just that Detroit is shopping him a little. Executives are looking at Paul George and John Wall the same way they're looking at Boogie. Perhaps with bigger eyes too since neither of those guys have that hot head stigma. Paul George is the true target, but Al Horford was the true target this past off-season, too. We went after Kent and Horford. We missed on our true target, so we went with plan B or C which was Gordon and Anderson. This time plan C or B could end up being Lopez and Danilo (just throwing out names, not an insider.) PG and Boogie is the true target and no one would fight you about it because it fit's Morey's philosophy of 3 stars. You're not breaking any news. Most teams probably have George and Boogie on their "true target" list. What people will fight you about it is how easy you make it seem to be. Like we're going to trade for both Boogie and PG and still somehow have Dekker lol.
It's really strange no matter what team Dwight joins, their roster always has at least one malcontent, along with a guy who doesn't always try very hard, and a guy who can be a divisive presence in the locker room. Even if those problems weren't there before. How weird.
Not that I'm believing in an imminent Cousins trade (although that franchise needs to recognize Cousins won't stay after next season), in your scenario, I believe Ariza or Brewer would have to be included.
While I'm on the record as being firmly against trading Capela for Boogie, I think it would particularly silly to take on Gay as well at the expense of Anderson. Capela, Harrell, McDaniels, and Brewer (and however many draft picks it takes) for DeMarcus would give us: Bev/Gordon Harden Ariza/Dekker Anderson/D-Mo(?) Cousins/Nene That would no doubt scare the sh*t out of the Warriors, but I still wouldn't do it.
Easy trade for Houston even though it'll disrupt chemistry and people will realize that Rudy Gay can not play the power forward position no matter what anyone says. Gay simply isn't fit to play the 4 spot and he's worse than Anderson if that is what the plan is. Jury is out on Motiejunas, and Wiltjer, Montrezl, and Nene can't start there either. Our hole at the 4 spot will be so big, and if we really try to run Gay at the 4 the team will be worse even if we do get Boogie. It's a step backwards trying to make Gay a power forward. Ariza needs to stay at the 3 too. Good thing is that it will give Houston the opportunity to go after a true defensive minded PF such as Serge Ibaka who has 14 points per game, 7 rebounds per game, 2 blocks per game, and can stretch the floor. Not quite like Anderson can, but Serge isn't a bad floor spacer. Beverley-Harden-Ariza-Ibaka-Cousins would be a wet dream for many people on ClutchFans. Still, who knows what Serge does in free agency. Houston has been dissed so many times that even Serge could say no. We'd for sure have to shell out money for an actual competent 4 which means that we will have to wait for your pipe dream of getting a ball handling PG to relieve Harden of PG duties. I doubt Blake leaves CP3. Zbo is old. Could Gibson ever be more than a back up big? It would have to be Serge or bust. It would need to go exactly like planned. Trade for Cousins, create space, sign Ibaka. Or else it will play like a bad jig saw puzzle where Morey isn't making a team but just putting random players together. There is no way Sacramento accepts that trade. They may like Anderson as much as we do, but committing that much money to him would be absolutely stupid for their position. You don't pay Anderson that much if you expect him to be your best player. The Kings are terrible, but they're not that stupid. Absolutely not. 2 first round picks from Houston isn't enough either. With Harden we're already picking beyond #20. With Cousins it would just solidify it. 2 late 1st round picks for Cousins is just completely awful. I like Capela and he's growing, but the Kings already have WCS who last season did show promise. This season he's been bad, and I have no idea why but giving up on WCS to bring in another center would completely destroy WCS's confidence and value. Teams wouldn't give up anything of importance for WCS now that his value is gone. Look at Sauce Castillo. I believe the Kings had to give up more just to get rid of him because they destroyed his value. Now he's scoring 11 points for the Sixers, and shooting great. Kings are a dumb front office, but they won't trade for our garbage compared to their treasure. I doubt they ever trade with Danny Ainge just because he's stuck in this endowment effect. They probably think Jaylen Brown is going to be this sure fire super star. I mean he has the potential to be fantastic, but they probably would refuse to throw him in a package for boogie. They won't use the Nets pick they have for 2017 either if it means getting Boogie. Realistically, like I said before, Bradley Beal makes the more sense. It's no secret that Beal and Wall don't mix. It's also no secret that Wall wants to play with Boogie who is his former team mate. It hasn't been put out there yet in public, but it would be very fair to assume that Wall is going to leave the first chance he gets. The Washington FO is pretty damn dumb(Ian Mahinmi??????), but if they hear that Boogie is on the block and all it would take is a packaged deal of Beal then it's obviously a yes. It kills 3 birds with one stone. Get rid of Beal's sorry ass who can't co-exist with Wall, make Wall happy enough to stay when he hits free agency, and snag the best center in the game at the moment. After that you have a core of Wall-Porter Jr-Cousins. That could be a 45 win team this season maybe. Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Toliver for Bradley Beal, 1st round pick. All Sacramento needs to see is that Beal is 23 and is locked up for the next 5 seasons. His numbers? Who cares. 21 points per game for a 23 year old is good enough for them to bite. Definitely better than paying Anderson long term money which would cripple them. At least with Beal it would be going to a "cornerstone" player. And don't pretend like Capela is nothing more than a sweetener. He's become a solid starting center, but he has a lot to work on. I'd rather take a lottery pick from the Wizards than Capela and two picks which will probably be #23 in 2017 and #26 in 2019. Give me Beal, let me try to develop WCS as my defensive anchor, and a lottery pick in a PG heavy draft class. Sac says we may consider Beal, but lets make a deal at the deadline (to maximize losses for Washington.) Leaves Sacramento with 2 lottery picks. Their own and Washington's. No brainer it's a better deal than the one you proposed.
Dekker would be fine at the 4 with Gay at 3. WCS is Knucklehead. He's behind CC's developmental curve. That's a no.
