Suggesting that a defense being expected to hold teams under 20 points consistently is not asking for them to be "ELITE" and blaming them for giving up multiple 4th quarter TD's isn't being unfair or "apologizing" for anyone. Basically if you blame Osweiler for the loss to the Packers, you instantly lose any football credibility you might have....and many here did. I know nuanced opinions are going to be lost on the average fan, but it is what it is.
I know facts don't matter to you but look at the 6 games we've lost. We have scored 0 13 9 20 13 13 What you are suggesting is that this defense would have had to give up less than 13 points/game in order for us to have a lot more wins on the season. A defense giving up 13 points/game or less is the definition of elite. Stop being wrong all the time.
It doesn't matter how long you've been posting here if your opinions are that of an ignorant child. If anything I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by suggesting that you are just too young to know what the hell you are talking about. If you are old and still ignorant as hell, that's worse.
Ah yes, looking at things on paper rather than in practice. Smart. When the Texans lose a game that the defense gives up less than 20, let me know.
Yes because looking at hypothetical situations is much "smarter". Now I know why you did poorly in school.
we got a problem, that nickle cb whoever it is. please get better JJo. Clowney being held so much but our center engages just a tad, flag comes out. we got bailed on the blue fumble.
No biggie. All we have to do is sign TJ Yates off the street to start and he will take care of the Bengals like he always does.
It really is funny how upset you get when the Texans win but ignorantly lashing out isn't going to make it any better. Find your blankey and pacifier then catch a nap and see if you don't feel better.
I'm not upset that the Texans won. I'm upset that you ignorantly continue to blame the only good part of our team...the defense.
If you knew what you were talking about, you'd know the Texans defense isn't "good", it's right around average....and you need it to be better given that the team is built to win with their defense. Given that, when the defense gives up multiple 4th quarter TD's like they did in the Packers game is completely unacceptable....well for those who know what they are talking about. That said, I think it's pretty clear by now that you simply don't have an intelligent opinion when it comes to football....and that's fine. Just don't be such an ass about your ignorant opinion and don't whine so damn much given that you don't really know what's even going on. We can really end the conversation here, trust me, there's nothing you have to say that will further this discussion.
13 PPG is GOAT LEVEL D. So lets temper expectations to just league average. Texans held teams under league average and still lost three games this year because offense couldn't play league average. On the season, Texans offense has been 2 scores or worse from league avg MUCH more than the defense has, D playing right to lg avg Any way you slice it Texans offense has cost 2 wins cuz of being so BADLY UNDER lg avg.
@Nook and @Texanasiafan are somewhat right but should just let those who want to enjoy the win enjoy it. It was a big win regardless.
The league average is 22 points, The Texans have lost 2 games where the opponent scored fewer than 22 points, in both of those games the opponent scored 21 points and in one of those games the Texans defense gave up 14 points in the 4th quarter alone. Given how the Texans are built, the team needs better than average from the defense to win some games, but they need at least average at all times. They aren't going to win when the defense can't be at least average and the results show that. The Texans have not lost a game this season when the defense held the opponent to significantly less than the league average amount of points.....the Texans have not won a game where the defense allowed significantly more than the league average amount of points.
Now, that said, you add a healthy JJ Watt, JJo, and Kevin Johnson to this team and I'd bet you'd have at least a few more games where the defense held opponents to significantly less than the league average amount of points and thus more wins. IMO it would probably lead to 3 more wins on the season so far putting the Texans at 10-3 right now.....how much b****ing and whining would people be doing then?
Its just incredible how LOW the bar is set there. I'm not even changing the bar, I'm making it EASY. A LEAGUE AVERAGE bar that doesn't ask EITHER unit not even offense to be OUTSTANDING just ho-hum # of games Defense held Under LG AVG: 8 # of games Offense did Under LG AVG: 8 Even if you take it on a game-by-game / critical drive basis, its so blatantly obvious the defense holds steady or better, and the offense is shoddy and RARELY does better than bad
Are you talking about bobby? Yeah that guy is an idiot. According to him, he's always right. Even when he's wrong, he's somehow right. I don't take him seriously. Just do what I do and block him.
Sure, and that's how the team is supposed to be built, they just had some monster injuries this season that have set them back. That's sort of what I am trying to point out. A solid counter to what I was saying earlier is that the Texans have yet to lose a game where they've scored more than the league average....but that's not what the team was built to do especially with all the O line injuries and an off year for Nuk. As such, I think there is plenty of reasons for optimism moving forward. Get the defense back healthy, and improve the O line and hopefully Osweiler takes a step forward in the offseason and the Texans could be one of the top teams in the AFC next year. Sure it sucks that this season is sort of shot, but that's just how injuries are sometimes.
