But the seams! Fails all year long to get any offer or SnT. Lets QO expire, and many Cap Experts think that was best deal, in hindsight to Nets offer Turns down $8m in Summer, and $7m + $1m Incentives just recently from Rockets Signs $37m/4yr from Nets with March 1st waive date Morey schools him by matching and pointing out deal is only $31m for Rockets BJ embarrassingly asked his client to Hold Out, and with "I'll get you those bonuses. I will SHOW YOU THE MONEY" Final deal $31m base + $4m Bonuses = $35m DMo loses his March 1st Waive date for July 7th DMo even loses his Trade Veto Power that came with a match, since this is a new Deal directly with Rox
Overall this is an even better deal than the one we matched from BKN right? Negligible salary difference, but the Mo trade restrictions after 90 days is huge.
At the end of the day, didn't he "show him the money?" He may not get to keep it, ie he under performs, but at the very least he's got the ability to get more money, right? I hate that we let him get away this, and I was/am? a huge Dmo fan. But I don't like the way this happened. Dmo's agent F'd up it seems, and the Rockets threw him a bone, it sounds like. So should he hug Morey or fire BJ? I can't decide...whatever, I just hope he plays well and contributes to an already surprisingly good team.
No, he might have actually wrote the Likely Incentives incorrectly into the offer sheet. Let me speculate and say he included $4m incentives into the Principal Terms incorrectly, and Morey was able to show the league office those don't qualify as Principal Terms, hence why Morey had to wait until Monday to match. Had to wait for ruling from league on whether the offer sheet had a technical error in it. Either that, or he just for whatever reason thought they would count in the match contract, despite not spelled out in the Principal Terms for ROFR Team. There is a requirement in Offer Sheets to include a copy of the Nets proposed Uniform Player Contract, and another Exhibit showing the Principal Terms the ROFR Team is obligated to. So, some mistake happened. Also, he could more easily lose years 2-4 via the longer waive date. Worst case is: DMo is playing at 2015 levels, but has an relapse injury after March 1st.
From the vantage point 'we' hold, yep, BJ shoulda been shipcanned. However, what do we not know that just might (ad)vantage BJ's point?
If BJ is negotiating team friendly contracts for the Rockets we should be asking if more players on the roster should hire BJ. Petition for Harden to hire BJ coming soon.
That RFA is #DirtyBusiness and should be revamped? Sure, he proved his point, at the expense of his client! Not sure how that's gonna get him anywhere.
