I don't really agree with a lot of what is said here. There have not been any rumors of transfers so far, which is surprising because of the so-called love of the players for Strong. I'm not saying they won't happen, because there will be a few, but it's not going to be players that will make a huge difference. The Georgia RB Toneil Carter had his visit canceled by people on Texas' end, not Carter's end***. It's thought that a RB we want (I'm guessing Dobbins, fingers crossed) is showing significant interest, and we don't want Carter if we get this guy. We still have Kirk Johnson and Chris Warren at RB. Yes, they are very injury-prone, but we aren't ****ed regardless of what happens to Porter (I think he stays). In terms of big commitments, DE K'Lavon Chaisson, WR Omar Manning, and maybe RB JK Dobbins are in play. ***Sources are 247 and The Football Brainiacs
I wasn't trying to suggest their were rumors however it seems unlikely you would see that happen at this point as oppose to during the spring semester. I don't think it will definitely happen but I would not be surprised. These guys never seemed to be recruited to play for Texas. It was the personal relationship they had with Strong that seemed to always be the deciding factor. One recruit said that you shouldn't let him on your couch if you don't want to go to UT. The tone and style of the program is going to be radically different and you might have guys that just don't want to put up with camp texas and working their butts off. I don't mind losing those guys. I didn't know that Herman canceled the visit. That seems odd. I don't know who Kirk Johnson is. Warren has been very injury prone and certainly couldn't handle taking most of the snaps. There were some good moments with Kyle Porter but he really didn't get very many snaps. It should be the biggest priority for next year. It's probably very early to know who is in play. There hasn't been enough time for thoughts to leak from recruits and they might not have too much of a stance until they know who is on the staff.
Kirk Johnson is Collin Johnson's older brother. He is a good change-of-pace back who was injured early this season. He played well near the end of the 2014 season against Texas Tech. He'll be a sophomore next year like his brother after he comes back from his season-long issues. I just don't think running back is the biggest priority. It continues to be the secondary, pass coverage by the linebackers, and linebacker depth issues, especially inside.
Eno Benjamin, the 4 star RB from Wylie decommitted from Iowa and wants to be a Longhorn. Ranked the #10 RB in the nation. https://campusinsiders.com/news/eno-benjamin-tom-herman-texas-longhorns-12-07-2016/
So... a guy that has had 2 knee surgeries in 2 years that has 50 yards rushing in his career. That's why we shouldn't be concerned about running backs? Warren only played a few games his 1st year and then got hurt 4 games into 2017. Porter just didn't move the needle. I agree that LB is a big concern as well but we might not have a single guy who can start full-time without getting injured at the RB position. Our passing game would have been so much worse if the running game hadn't been as good as it was. You need that steady push to free up some space for your QB. Well that's a freebie. Really good news.
Wonder how this one will turn out. Didn't get an offer from Strong and still hasn't from Herman although he did get one from him at UH.
Porter averaged 4.5 yards per carry. That's solid production. Porter was not used correctly by Gilbert because he needed a different style of runs from Foreman. A combination of all three will not be a problem in 2017. If two of the three get injured, that's why you get Dobbins or Benjamin. It certainly won't be as big of a disaster as LB/Secondary is right now. Why don't you look at some stats on pass coverage?
There are a lot of talented guys in the LB and DB. They haven't been properly coached and developed. We need bodies in the backfield. At the end of the day, they are both areas that need recruits. Anyone else annoyed by all of the UH threads? Why can't you post updates in your school thread that everyone is checking anyway?
The fact that they're taking their time with Orlando kind of tells you what Texas probably thinks of him. I don't like him in the Big 12 either. It's not that I think it's impossible for him to succeed, but as Texas you want something you're more comfortable with. A proven guy. Someone with a lot of experience against the spread.
Not nearly as annoying as the ******** attendance garbage you posted about attendance for several months.
They're taking their time with him because he was just the interim HC and was up for the full time job. I'd expect him to be announced within the next couple of days.
