Staying out of the game is costly both short term and long term. If it's about the money, that's the opposite of making bank..

Plain and simple he should have taken the QO from the Rox. I think he and BJ realize that now but are trying to get Dmo out of the hole that they dug together. You can't take a gamble and not be accountable for the repercussions that follow.

Here is the wording in the CBA. This is the clause that Coon keeps referencing ...

    From the CBA

    (e) If, within three (3) days from the date it receives an Offer Sheet, the ROFR Team gives to the Restricted Free Agent a “First Refusal Exercise Notice” substantially in the form of Exhibit H annexed hereto, then, subject to Section 5(h) below, such Restricted Free Agent and the ROFR Team shall be deemed to have entered into a Player Contract containing all the Principal Terms (but not any terms other than the Principal Terms) included in the Uniform Player Contract attached to the Offer Sheet (except that if the Contract contains an Exhibit 6, such Exhibit 6 shall be deemed deleted). Such Contract may not thereafter be amended in any manner for a period of one (1) year.
fwiw: Here is a summary of my "Research" and opinion
    1. First, there is definitely a ready-to-sign Uniform Player Contract. It is attached to the Offer Sheet per that paragraph. The Offer Sheet is actually just a one-page signed letter with attached Contract.

This is the Offer Sheet wording, from an Exhibit in the CBA

"Attached hereto is an unsigned Player Contract that the New Team has offered to the Player and that the Player desires to accept. The attached Player Contract separately specifies in its exhibits those Principal Terms that will be included in the Player Contract with the ROFR Team if that Team gives the Player a timely First Refusal Exercise Notice."

    2. That Offer Sheet wording to me states that the ready-to-sign Contract is what Nets will sign if not matched. It also contains the Principle Terms for the Rockets "separately specified."
    3. The above CBA paragraph that Coon references states *all* the Principle Terms ... The Guarantee amounts and Waiver Dates are Principal Terms (I can post the clauses again if you want.)
    4. The "that will be included" phrasing seems pretty declarative to me. Pretty "locked in" to me. To me, it's a protection to the New Team ... hey, you can match, but these "will be included" if you do...no changes.
    5. So, lawyers love key words like "all' and "will be"...combined you have "all the Principal terms that will be included"
      1. The Waive date is a Principal Term. (I can post the pertinent CBA clauses again if you want.)
      2. So, to me, this directly conflicts with Watkins suggesting the Rox are negotiating this, vs everyone just speculating they would like to.
    6. I haven't read or heard Coon or Bobby Marks say anything corroborating Watkins single-line sentence about Waive Date negotiations. Has anyone else?
    7. Marks is clear that the Incentives which are not Principal Terms can be accepted by the ROFR Team.
    8. The above CBA paragraph that Coon references says the Contract cannot be amended for a year. Bare in mind, while that could just be Union/Team agreed protection that neither side can try to alter something later that was matched (like a buyout, even)...it indeed further enforces the idea that you can't change what the New Team and Player agreed to. Seems unfair to the New Team. It also means you can't amend bonuses for a year, either. So, I am of the opinion all you can do is honor the Nets bonuses or not. You probably can't make them more lucrative...seems unfair.
    My Opinion:

Despite Watkins' article about changing the waive date as a compromise, I no longer think the Principal Terms "specified separately in exhibits" to the Offer Sheet can be renegotiated, even if both parties agreed.

Note: Everything I say here is from "my research" of the CBA and remarks by Coon and Marks, which I've posted throughout these threads. Let me know if you want to elaborate or see the backup info to any of the points above.

I keep hearing about D-Mo being this 3-point specialist and a great shooter but he simply isn't. He was a very hesitant shooter with a slow release who averaged less than 1 make a game. He was also a subpar FT shooter at ~60%.

I don't see why they would budge anyway. Why give into what is essentially a plea for sympathy by the agent? DMo should be furious with his agent's lack of professionalism. It's embarrassing.

Morey's rep takes another among players and this will become a bad contract.

4th highest paid Rockets player for, when healthy, is the 7th best Rocket player. How's that not fair? As a teammate, yes it's a business, but this is a fair business contract that he signed. Yes, I'm sure he's friends with the teammates, but we all have friends that are a putz.

Once you take your hand off the chess piece, it's a completed move.

True but the last thing I want is for him to miss a half season or more of playing.

Not only Morey is doing this for the Rockets, he is doing this for the other NBA teams. See if DMo is man enough to play. I seriously think he is a mercenary. No pay, no play.

I think he has legitimate concerns about his surgically repaired back. So, he's trying to get as much guaranteed money as possible. But, it just ain't happening.

And remember . . . . when he does finally show up for some team
You cannot expect much from him for about a month and half to get in 'game shape'

Interesting that BJ was first player drafted in 1995 Expansion by Toronto. The Raptors used their first pick to select BJ Armstrong from the Chicago Bulls. However, Armstrong REFUSED to report for training and was traded to the Golden State Warriors for 5 players.

Um Dmo, this isn't 1995. There is CBA in place and the Rockets have their rights too.

The year he was healthy he was definitely better than Ariza and Bev, for SURE. Second leading scorer on the team when we were playing fantastic without Dwight.

"When healthy", Gordon-Harden-Anderson are the only guys that are for sure better than Donatas.
