I feel like it'll be Orlando. You have a lot of good momentum. Maintaining some normalcy seems like it would be a good thing.
The buyout really needs to be market rate. People aren't dumb. Agents aren't dumb. We are going to get second tier and desperate candidates at crazy buyout rates.
This. And the buyouts work both ways, the bigger the buyout, the more the coach will demand in guaranteed compensation in the event that the coach is fired. Shouldn't hamstring the university in the event a coach isn't working out and needs to be let go, i.e., Levine.
The idea is nice and it's what folks wanted to hear after TH but difficult to pass in this landscape, especially for young guys like Riley and Kiffin.
I think Orlando, Miles, and Kiffin are all fine coaches and would do well here. If any of them balk at a huge buyout, then don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. If they all balk at it, then um, ok, nevermind then.
I'd be surprised if the next UH football coach is not a bigger name than Tom Herman. I think Orlando would of been coach already if they picked him. Whoever the coach is, Go Coogs!!!
I think so too. Splash hire that TF wants, buyout won't matter to him as much as Kiffin or Riley, and think they could've announced Orlando or Major at this point.
Didn't UT put a big buy out clause on Hermann. I think Herman has to pay UT $3mil per year left on his contract (if he bolts) as well as pay any remaining salary of assistants still under contract. Additionally if UT fires Hermann there is an an agreed upon buy out of $5mil per year, which is slightly lower than his salary. Seems harsh to me.
Great pool of candidates to select from. I'd be happy with any of them. I think the younger coaches are worried about the buyout and Coach Miles would stay around. I like Coach Miles but aren't they saying his age would limit his energy and our offense would take a hit?
Keep hope alive it's not Lane! Mark Berman: College football sources: @UHouston has not made the decision on who'll be @UHCougarFB head coach. The job has not been offered to anyone Joseph Duarte: Sources: Houston has not offered job, no decision made yet on next head coach
I really prefer Miles as a big name, defensive HC that's too old to leave while keeping Applewhite running the offense.
You are nuts if you think Miles couldn't leave. If Miles wins at UH he would be hired back into the SEC in a heartbeat. Heck, he might not even have to win. South Carolina is the type of school that in a year or two would come calling wanting Les and he'd be gone.
Lane Kiffin will be on the lips of every opportunity while he's here, but who cares, he's ours now. Like it a lot. The program moved forward, again. These are giant steps for the program in terms of visibility, credibility, and legitimacy.
Kiffin should do well here. Some dirty recruiting never hurt anyone. I hope that UH continues to win.
