Hmm. I still think he goes to Boston or Indians. But a one year deal with player options for years 2/3 would probably put us in drivers seat if that's what he wants.
If it's between those teams and the Rangers, even I would choose the Rangers. But ultimately, it's going to come down to money. Honestly, if the Rangers lose Moreland, and add Encarnacion, it's not the end of the world. It's just nice to watch them suffer.
Me unhappy. At least Astros gave the appearance of being players in the market. Team should be able to hold it's position next season behind the Sox, Rangers, Indians. But don't see us advancing much past where we were unless there is another move up our sleeve. Everything is resting on the hope that Reed can capture lighting in a bottle, that Correa can hit 40 HR, and the Keuchel will at least be above average. But's it all hope. We should be able to avoid those major baserunner droughts at the plate this year though and that will be nice.
So why are we counting on Reed to carry us? Beltran and Gattis will DH, and Gurriel will get most of the reps at 1B, unless Reed does in fact dominate. Being critical of the pitching is fine, but there is very little to criticize about the lineup we are gonna field next year.
What a ridiculous statement. As things stand now, Reed isn't even in the opening day plans so I guess the season is over before it even begins.
WTF? They gave the appearance of being players in the market? I don't think you've been paying attention at all until this last tweet saying the Astros are out on EE.
Edwin Encarnacion is in wait-and-see mode because of how his market cratered. At this point, no team even willing to go three years, $60M. One GM last night on Encarnacion: "Teams shouldn't overplay their hands with him, either. He's too good for the price to go much lower." - Jeff Passan
Small chips. All the big chips went to the contenders. You can't bring in role players to support an average pitching staff.
Apparently EE and his agent assumed that they could have "friends" on Twitter throw out random numbers and talk on Twitter days before the winter meetings and it would create a bidding war. Not so much... Instead, every team filled his toll with 1 year guys at lower prices and his market crumbled.
You think anyone is going to pick the Astros with the small chips we added. We are a slightly above average team with only a slight inkling of hope in that Reed or Correa will elevate us to the next level. What in he history of our pickups leads anyone to believe they are more than nice role players at this point in their career. We didn't do anything significant. Same as last couple of years. All second tier talent at best, or past their prime.
Are you referring to Sale as "all the big chips"? This nonsense is GARM worthy. There is probably a DMO thread you can go post on. There are still plenty of quality arms on the market
The lineup is better, but not enough to carry an average pitching staff. Reed is our only chance to significantly improve the lineup, and we all saw what we saw, a bust. Gurriel was with us last year and the offense did not bump us into the playoffs. He was nice, but added no significant lift. Gattis started as catcher and did not bump us into the playoffs either. Beltran is an aging veteran who may not even be able to match Valbuena's output.
