F it, let his ass sit out until march. Cut off communication with him and his agent. If Dmo wants to play in the NBA again he's going to have to do it by the rules. If he can't do it by the rules then he can sit his ass at home or go back to Europe.
So Rockets can just basically hold Dmo in limbo until 2017 free agency where we could just make him an RFA again. Wow. What are the rules on Dmo signing over seas if being held in limbo by Rockets? It really seems like Dmo is screwing himself hard with his one. His jackass agent should have just signed the highest offer, it's like he was totally expecting Rockets to not match the Nets offer or something, the way they structured the incentives and everything. So weird, and dumb on Dmo and his agent's behalf. Does anybody have a clear idea of what BJ and Dmo are trying to accomplish right now? (besides Hollic). Are they really thinking Morey will just conceed and give him more money or just let him walk if they pout?
I can see why they would hope that, but we have absolutely no obligation to let him go back to RFA and they MUST know that. Why would they expect Morey to not do his job, why would they expect him to screw his self into paying Dmo more than he has to. I don't understand how BJ and Dmo think they can just pout their way into getting what they want. They signed the damn contract and it's ridiculous for them not to honor it.
It's a free country. If he doesn't want to play in HOU, he doesn't have to. He is deciding whether he wants to stay in the NBA though.
As long as the Rockets First Right of Refusal is not rescinded, then he belongs to the them. He can't sign with another league. My guess is three things: If the incentives are the issue, they will try to hold out for Morey to accept them, although he doesn't have to. Morey can just sit and wait and do nothing. Further, they can completely renegotiate incentive bonuses any way they want. They just can't change the Principal Terms of the offer sheet. chenjy9 and Larry Coon are in agreement. Coon says, "Maybe his end game is to get the Rockets to withdraw its first refusal exercise notice, and then Armstrong and the Rockets negotiate a separate contract that is more favorable to Motiejunas. " I think he also means, signing another Offer Sheet with a different team, too. The backup plan should the Rockets never rescind is to say goodbye to this season, and let the Rockets give him another Qualifying Offer for 2017, and the RFA thing starts all over again. Can anyone provide the bullet points of this? I can't keep up.
1. No matter how bloodthirsty we fans are right now, holding a player "hostage" (no matter how false that is) never looks good. Media sites are already quoting BJ's ludicrous statement of "defending his rights". Consider it like colleges who refuse to let a player play for another school. It just looks bad no matter how in the right the Rockets are, because people are stupid. 2. D-Mo's contract technically ties up our cap, which can affect our ability to make other trades and signings. All that said, I would love for Morey to take a hard line here to show that teams will not be pushed around by players, especially mediocre role players like D-Mo who have never proven a damn thing before or after his back injury. I would love to see us just sit on his contract until March and if possible, fine him every day. He might be able to live off his savings, but I would love to see us hitting him where it hurts by attacking his savings directly for the shenanigans he and BJ are pulling against us right now.
It's not even about the team being pushed around by a player, it's about an agent's clear disregard for the CBA. Let players make teams pay up for them, idc. But don't think you can just do whatever you want after the rules of engagement have been agreed to
RFA will get abolished or at least changed in the future because it's been abused by teams. It's really unfair on the players. The owners keep on ripping off the players.
So basically he will have to sign the prorated QO? or how is salary going to be determined for the rest of the year after Match 1st?
Right... do you even know what you are talking about here? D-Mo had free reign to go to any team to get the offer that he wanted. No one gave it to him. Half a season later, he finally got a team friendly one and maybe another one from Utah that no one knew about. If D-Mo wanted to be a UFA, he could have taken the QO and proved himself this year and signed anywhere he wanted, played for whoever he wanted. He didn't. There is no owner ripping off players here. There is however a player who vastly overrates himself and an agent trying to circumvent a CBA agreed to by both owners and players. To point out how ridiculous your statement is, Parsons went out as a RFA and got a helluva nice contract from good o' Cuban that we did not match. He got a offer and played where he wanted. See how that works?
How so, RFA allows a player to go get what their market value is, whether it's minimum or max contract like parsons.
The QO is doneskies. At this point DMo is considered ours for the contract that we matched. After March 1st, we can either waive his physical and officially make him a Rockets OR we can let him go back to RFA, find a contract, and decide if we want to match again.
QO means "Qualifying Offer". The Offer Sheet just sets terms for us to match. There is no contract signed yet. Quick summary, and your question should be answered somewhere here: At this point, the Rockets have only sent the First Right of Refusal notice to the league, to block the Nets. The Rockets now are obligated to adhere to the Principal Terms of the offer sheet, which is $31m/4yrs ... with base starting salary of $8.3m, descending each year DMo might want the bonuses to become part of the Rockets contract, but Rockets are not obligated to accept them. I'm pretty sure both parties can accept them in whole, or in part, or even renegotiated. DMo is holding out. While he holds out, there is no contract, but "for all intents and purposes" he is controlled by the Rockets. I really don't know what happens if he signs with the Rockets a week (or weeks) from now, whether that effects trigger dates for waiving or not. Since it affects the amount of games the Rockets get to assess him, it could push the trigger dates back ... I do not know. I also don't now when Les could start docking pay. There is a Jan 10th date that BimaThug says no proration of contracts needs to happen before that date ... which is a Rule not specific to this contract. (For instance, if he signs tomorrow, we don't prorate the contract for the first 20 games missed.) But in this event he fails to report and starts missing games then signs, it appears they can withhold pay for missed games. Should they never sign a contract, the offer sheet expires on March 1st ... If the offer sheet expires due to DMo holding out for that long, he can start a brand new contract negotiation with (and only with) the Rockets. He can no longer sign any offer sheets with other teams.. I'm pretty sure any new contract at that time will be prorated to remaining games left in the season. If DMo still doesn't sign, he can become a UFA or RFA for Summer 2017. Rockets need to extend a QO again to make him RFA. Further, all trade restrictions are removed again once the Season ends. Also, he cannot sign with Nets for a year, if the Offer Sheet expires on March 1st. Plus, at any time, we can rescind the FIrst Right of Refusal before March 1st, and he becomes an RFA again (and he can sign offer sheets again up to March 1st), but he can't sign another with the Nets. I think that's it. @BimaThug
No. After March 1st, Players can no longer get offer sheets from other teams. That's a standard rule of RFAs. If this offer sheet is never rescinded and therefore expires, he can only sign with us, for the rest of the year.
In what way? rfa allows the player to go out and get the best offer they can. Lin, parsons, asik...these guys got a lot of money through rfa. If Dmo was worth more he'd have been offered more.
The only things he can decide right now : Either : 1. retire from basketball for good. Or : 2. fire his agent and starting to kiss les' butt again and hope for the best.
