Watkins for better or worse is the beat reporter for the rockets. He is in the know. Espn also fact checks what he posts. Contracts have a validity date. After a certain point an un-executed contract expires. Only time will tell who is right. If Calvin is wrong how come Coon did not come out and say it.
This is what happens when there is no Rockets game going on. Besides D-Mo signing saga, no one wants to talk about Harden's MVP chances, or the conspiracies of how Rockets is hated by the media, it isn't fresh. Russell Westbrook probably going to stat pad his way into getting his first MVP over Harden. Initially I was pissed at D-Mo for not showing up to the physical exam, but why bother he still has one more day. We could all be overreacting over nothing, idk we'll see.
Dmo is a pioneer. Never in the history of a game has a mediocre player created so much drama during restricted free agency He will go down in the history books of the NBA and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for his selfless contributions to the NBA
What a second. Sorry. I see the confusion in this. Are you saying the contract can expire as if he was waived? That's what I thought you were saying. Maybe you aren't. Let's step back for a second. Let's say Nets never signed an offer sheet. Here are the timelines for RFAs Qualifying Offers expire on Oct 1st Player can still sign an offer sheet up until March 1st On March 1st, offer sheets are not longer allowed, and the RFA player can only sign with the incumbent team. If the season ends and the Player never signs, the incumbent team can make him an RFA again by extending him another QO. So, yes, the offer sheet expires. But that's no loop hole for getting loose from the Rockets. After than date, DMo cannot sign with anyone, except the Rockets. And after the season, Rockets can make him an RFA again for next year. But he can't sign with the Nets. So, yes, I'm fine with the interpretation being DMo can refuse to show, and become a Rockets RFA again this Summer. Is that it? I thought you were saying he could sign this year with another team...as if we waived him.
As I keep saying, it's the unspoken that speaks the loudest. DMo doesn't want to be here. Prrobably Rockets trying to trade him pissed him off big-time. Semiotics ... let him go. I think he'd rather play in Europe than play with the Rox.
Nope . If Dmo didn't want to be here then he should have said so when asked in an interview before the rockets matched . You can't have your cake and eat it too . If Dmo and his agent are gonna try to break the RFA system they aren't setting that precedent on the rockets . The rockets have to stand strong otherwise it sends a message to all our future RFA's that they can **** us around . We've done nothing wrong to Dmo and have publicly supported him all the way even when his agent is throwing a tantrum on Twitter . Dmo had his chances to be out of here . He could have signed the QO and been gone next year OR after signing the Brooklyn offer sheet he could have publicly stated he wanted to go to Brooklyn and hinted that he would not give his all to the rockets ... That alone would have pushed Morey not to match . I dunno what he wants , I dunno what his agent wants . I do hope that they don't get it . There is a right way and a wrong way to do things ... You don't like the system , collectively bargain for a different one ... But in the meantime take your millions of dollars and Stfu
It is a bad look though if the hold up is we won't include the incentives. Outsiders will think that we won't even take care of our own players. If donuts can meet the requirements of the incentives then it benefits both parties.
A no-show should be a FAILED physical just like a drug test. DMO has a lot of nerve for a career role player.
Also, I hope teams blacklist him because he's trying to break the RFA process and that would really screw all teams over if he was allowed to do that.
I agree, it would set a REALLY bad precedent. He signed the damn contract, he needs to live with it instead of trying to get his agent to weasel out of it.
I think there is a lack of clarity on what happens to the matched offer on March 1st if Dmo refuses the physical. I do believe that there is a strong possibility that Dmo could still be a restricted free agent come July 2017. The current offer has very specific guarantee dates in the wording of contract. If the contract is not executed before those date triggers the contract as it stands will cease to be valid. Our disagreement is that you think the rockets match holds up till the end of the season. I think the offer expires after the specified date triggers can no longer be executed because of the time of the physical.
Whether DMO should be disciplined for this should be left to the league. Let's focus on running the basketball team. There are way more important things to worry about than making an example out of him. The basketball decision is to cut him and let him play the Nets or Jazz, two lesser teams.
Nah, that's not what I'm saying now. I was confused that you thought DMo could hold-out and get out from under a contract as if it was waived, due to the target dates kicking in. I don't mean the match holds, just that we can prevent him from signing with another team the rest of the year. The March 1st date has two meanings. One if DMo passes the physical, and signs the matched contract with the Rockets. That follows all the trigger dates we know about. If he never does that, the customary March 1st date of RFA kicks in. The customary March 1st date has nothing to do with the contract. Offer sheets are no longer allowed after March 1st. So, if one never consummates into a contract, then that CBA rule takes over -- the offer sheet expires. Coon quotes that date, and I'm assuming Watkins is quoting the same Rule. After March 1st, this offer sheet will expire, but no others can be signed. He can only sign with the Rockets. If he doesn't by end of year, DMo then becomes a UFA or RFA next summer, depending upon whether we extend him another QO for 2017. No. The contract must be signed for any of that to happen. It hasn't been signed. The offer sheet will expire. But then, because it is March 1st, new offer sheets are no longer allowed, per very easy to look up CBA Rules.
