LOL, So how exactly this will cost the Rockets anything if we do nothing about it? And come next season you want to play again?
Yeah but those are big losses AND he will still be an RFA . Teams know what the rockets will match now . No team in March is gonna offer a big contract and he's going to have to take a physical with another team anyways to get them to sign him . Also now he looks bad . We still could waive the physical and fine him if he doesn't show up , but I think the rockets needed to do a physical . They probably haven't checked him out since before the summer and need to see how the rehab is going.
And what does that gain D-Mo or his agent? A year of earnings lost? A years worth of commission for his agent? Is his free agency value going to improve after a year of not playing? Not sure that is a smart play by D-Mo or his agent to really hold out till March.
WOW- another wrinkle.....so the Rockets are REQUIRING a physical, as part of the match? This is fascinating stuff, so they could still hold out until March, and the offer would expire, and then DMo becomes a RFA again - and signs a new more lucrative deal? Wow - this honestly is like chess..... DD
DMo's agent has decided to make DMo an honorary freedom fighter from the totalitarian clutches of his own incorrect handling of Restricted Free Agency
SERIOUSLY He could have just came on TV and said F*CK HOUSTON and the deal would not have been matched and he'd have live going his way but He wanted the money, the team he wanted and to 'save face' too Well you just f*cked the Money, the team and you now look like a f*cking heel Rocket River
I would love to hear DMo's thoughts, not on the situation, but specifically on his agent. I bet private conversations are quite funny.
Yeah I don't think he can get in any trouble or fines because he's not officially under contract, however even if we do "waive" the physical he still has to sign the contract with us. I don't really know how the restricted contract offers work out but I do believe he does have to sign something the Rockets give. I hope the Rockets play hardball on him and leave Dmo + his agent in limbo until the last possible minute they can. Other past restricted free agents have been willing to sign qualifying offers so they can be unrestricted, Dmo isn't in a position to. We haven't heard of any offers the Rockets could match so the market must be very limited for him. Sucks for Dmo but he does have the choice to play and make money doing it. It's not like he's playing for free, also his choice not to play for us.
The sent it to the league office all ready. Larry Coon said that if it is withdrawn he becomes a restricted free agent. I don't know if the league will let you modify a document you all ready submitted.
Larry Coon begs to differ. It’s important to note here that the rules for restricted free agency say that when a team issues a first refusal exercise notice, the player and team “…shall be deemed to have entered into a Player Contract.” Motiejunas is, for all intents and purposes, under contract with the Rockets now, and the Rockets have all the rules related to player discipline for failure to report at their disposal. The CBA also says a player shall not receive credit for a year of service for any year in which he “…withholds playing services called for by a Player Contract or this Agreement for more than thirty (30) days after the Season begins. Opticon, the key here is the Rockets do not have to rescind the First Right Exercise Notice to the League. They can use disciplinary action against DMo instead. You are just stating the 2nd option at their disposal.
As long the offer is sitting out there the rockets only have 14 roster spots at there disposal. The Rockets have two choices if Dmo holds his ground Make a RFA now or Make him a RFA in March. The have all ready proven that waiving is off the table. The ball is in the Rockets court now.
Really? Illegal you say? I'd love to know which part of the Texas Penal Code was violated... The fact of the matter is, Texas is one of 26 States in the US that are defined as right to work/at will employment states. An employee OR employer can break a verbal or written employment contract at any time with or without just cause. In addition, any specific "handles" in an employment contract are unenforceable if an employee never commences work. No laws were broken. Nothing illegal happened. BUT, DMO did violate the terms of the CBA - which governs his employment in the NBA.
And so we are right back to where we were this year. Rockets have the info on his back from last year and they thought his back was worth the gamble on the contract NJ offered. Rockets still have their planned cap room for summer of 2017 as he will have similar cap hold as this summer. D-Mo and his agent lose out on a year of earning. Who really wins if D-mo and his agent push it to March? And if he signs with a team in March his salary will be pro-rated for the rest of the year.
The rockets can't fine him till he takes the physical and than does not show up. Morey adding a medical exam as part of the right of the refusal gave the rockets an out and the Dmo an out. You cant legally force some one to under go a medical exam in sports.
You should be hired as Dmo's agent because you are thinking exactly like BJ and giving the same laughable advice to your client.
If this is the case. . . it is bigger than the Rockets and bigger than DMO This means that THE OWNERS as a group would not want this to happen Mark Cuban must still feel burned by Jordan . . . now this The Owners as a group have to looking at this and not liking the trend This will affect the next CBA . .. . The Owners may demand that Houston stand Tough Rocket River
I refuse to remain CALM BJ can go **** himself and I hope he never gets a BJ for the rest of his life
