For those coming in late ... REPEAT TOP OF PAGE Summary for why BJ is probably trying to back out Spoiler This is a conversation with Bobby Marks from TheVertical who has read the offer sheet I sent him Feigen's tweet to clarify what the salary is Response in three parts Corrected wording at the end In a nutshell, teams can honor the bonuses, but are only obligated to cover the "Principal Terms"
Continuation of discussion between Bima, Bobby Marks and myself (sorry for two posts....BBS only allows 5 media objects per post) Spoiler Did BJ have any clue that the Incentives don't have to be honored, by CBA Rules?
Is it really illegal, if you verbally decline an official offer after verbally accepting it? It's a giant dick move for sure, but I've never heard of it being illegal.
@heypartner You said teams typically honor the bonuses, is that true, where did you get that? If @dmorey honors those - I am pretty sure this would end. If they are taking the hardline stand and NOT honoring them - seems it could go on for a long long time. DD
This is my guess as to what the unlikely incentives are: 1. move the needle 2. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 3. BJ won't eat Play-Doh or stick it up his nose. It's your turn to sign on the dotted line.
The "matched" contracts, without the incentives, must have already been in DMo Agent's hands prior to the Celtics game. Hence this drama of 'not receiving D'Antoni's call', Not showing up for Physical, "We have rights" claim.... just to obscure the fact that BJ misrepresented things to DMo.
Ignore that comment. That was my speculation,,,,wording poorly. For all I know, teams only do it if "feeling charitable" like Bima says.
If I am Morey - I call DMo and show him that the Rockets don't have to match, that it is within their rights, and that they have no intention of letting him go because they value him. Then, tell him, that they are going to HONOR those bonuses - because they value him - and explain that he should fire his agent. This ends, and it is winner winner chicken dinner....and both DMo and the Rockets are happy. DD
I tend to agree. It kind of feels wrong taking advantage of this misunderstanding on DMo's part. He's no use to the Rockets as a total malcontent anyway. I'd offer the incentives, or at least some of them, on the condition that he fire his dumbass agent.
Guys, multiple sauces saying it was simply a case of his car breaking down on the way to the physical, and all these rumors are pure conjecture. Pic confirms:
We probably waking up to some B's "Dmo takes physical, inks deal with Rockets" Dmo and BJ "We hit a little snag but we're happy to be here" Morey "this is business. Stuff like this happens all the time"
Any which way this ends up... hopefully they make a movie about this. Lol Probably a True Hollywood Stories type of docu drama...
This one is on BJ and for D-Mo to not show up is being purely unprofessional. Even if he decides to change his mind he wont be playing with full effort. Time to move on
