Let him sit out the year with no pay. This is no different from Royce White, refusing to show up to work. We decided to match, put your big boy pants on and earn your playing time.

He might consider Europe, his final master plan if it won't work out with the Nets.

If players can simply not show up to the matching team, what's the point of RFA?

I think he somehow hired Royce White as his secret advisor. Be Well, be well.

I bet he feels really dumb for turning down all of those big dollar offers he had now.

D-Mo has made enough money to just walk away from $5,000,000?

    That's insane.

Maybe it's not what you wanted but $5,000,000 is still $5,000,000 and that's a lot more than is available in Europe to a guy with a bad back.

I think many of us were saying that then. Even if this didn't happen today, you still had to pay D-Mo to continue to get value out of him, and by trading him, it showed the Rockets likely had some concerns about doing that. At the time, you were getting a borderline lottery pick (ended up being #18, I believe). That's four years at a bargain rate on a young player.

    Who cares?

Everyone seems to forget that he is Donatas Motiejunas and not someone that really matters.

Let him go to the only team that would sign him to an offer sheet.

Except that when you're a restricted free agent, you have to return to your current team if they match the offer. That's how it works and he knew that when he signed the Nets' offer. He's not LeBron. He can't force his way to Brooklyn with a stunt like this. Man up, honor your contract with the Rockets, and be a professional.

And to your point, there are upsides with the Rockets that the Nets can't offer. D'Antoni-coached teams typically have inflated stats for their players which helps them secure fat contracts the next time they hit free agency. Also, Brooklyn is one of the worst teams in the NBA at 5-15. The Rockets are one of the best at 14-7. Even with fewer minutes, he'll get a lot more exposure playing for this franchise than that one.

I just don't see how this better for him.

Miss a year and a half is basketball over two years with the half you did play being pretty unremarkable and including a failed physical and a summer of discontent and refusal to show up for a second physical. This is the resume you want for next free agency?
