I haven't been able to wrap my mind around going from 9-2 (2nd place) to 10-10(9th place). Maybe Millsap gets traded.
Not only that, but the 1-8 stretch began with, wait for it... An idiotic ejection! As I said in the No JB, No Howard, No Problem thread:
Atlanta Hawk Dwight Howard after 36 point loss to Detroit; Record (10-10) - Sounds familiar... Houston Rocket Dwight Howard after losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2015-16 season; Record (5-10) - uh oh.
Dwight is fading away from the NBA world. Soon he's just another Al Jefferson name, Elton Brand. "oh that guy still plays."
That's why you never overrate players who heavily rely on their physical gifts to dominate the game while possessing very few skills. Those players go downhill real fast as they age. Dwight was never a good basketball player IMO even during his prime years, in the sense that he had very few legitimate basketball skills. He just out-jumped and out-muscled everyone else in the post like a bully. That's not a good basketball player in my eyes, while certainly can be very effective for a short time (remember Amare?) Unlike Dwight, Shaq was very skilled as a player and had high BQ to go along with his dominant physicality. Dwight never had that combination, so I always knew he would fade away early in his career.
I think blocking and rebounding are skills...problem is that Dwight just doesn't have the defensive mindset... Like when is the last time he anchored an elite defensive team? When is the last time Marc Gasol anchored one? He's a good defensive player, do not get me wrong that, but he doesn't have the impact he should on defense. How many times did we watch the opposing center outplay Dwight Howard over the past few years? I remember a game where Andrea Bargnani outplayed him...
Dwight Howard's reputation as a coach killer is legit. Hawks playing bad enough for someone to lose their job.
So is Howard's honeymoon period over? If yes, be prepared for the following typical lines - We need to stay together and believe in one another - We need to stay positive - We need to put the past behind us - No matter what people think of me, I am still a champion
two 30+ point losses in a row... ouch.. eerily similar to last year's Rockets. I wonder if Bud's job is next.
