Gurriel is probably worthless in a trade right now. Astros paid more for him than any other team was willing to pay.
I imagine Marisnick will still get quite a few starts against LHP given that Reddick has had major struggles against them. Aoki had a bad year last year, but his career split against LHP are fine. This roster has a huge injury/struggle buffer right now
Keuchel, McCullers, McHugh, Musgrove could be a championship rotation depending on how Keuchel and McCullers recover/are able to regain form and if Musgrove is able to improve.... heck the Indians almost did it with only Corey Kluber.
What's with all this talk about us being out of the EE sweepstakes? I thought the plan all along was to sign Beltran and EE.
Most are under the impression that it was one or the other. If we sign both, somebody from the OD roster is definitely getting moved.
Nobody in Astros brass has mentioned trading away OD roster players. Nor would they ever say such things. Luhnow's official position will always be "we are exploring every option." I'm more interested to hear if he specifically mentions upgrading the offense further, or whether he indicates we are done there.
Underrated aspect of this position player roster is versatility: C: McCann, Gattis 1B: Gurriel, Marwin, McCann 2B: Altuve, Marwin, Bregman, Gurriel SS: Correa, Marwin, Bregman 3B: Bregman, Gurriel, Marwin RF: Reddick, Springer, Marisnick, Beltran, Aoki CF: Springer, Marisnick LF: Beltran, Aoki, Marisnick, Reddick, Gurriel And that's with only 12 position players. Not only does it provide a ton of insurance against short term injuries, it also means guys will get rest whenever they need it and also Hinch will be able to pinch hit and sub at will. This is arguably the deepest lineup in baseball.
just need some good health and vibes for our pitchers from the baseball gods and we're good to go. rangers will lose desmond and gomer?
Might be the worst defensive outfield in baseball too. You can see removing Tal's Hill was really a baseball move rather than Reid Ryan's fan experience mumbo jumbo. Springer is going to get some work covering for Beltran and Reddick.
Copied from the Crawfish Boxes. Our starting lineup versus RHP: 1. George Springer, CF. 2. Alex Bregman, 3B. 3. Jose Altuve, 2B. 4. Carlos Correa, SS. 5. Josh Reddick, RF. 6. Evan Gattis, DH. 7. Carlos Beltran, LF. 8. Yulieski Gurriel, 1B. 9. Brian McCann, C. Backups: Nori Aoki, Marwin Gonzalez, Jake Marisnick. Reddick and McCann sit versus LHP.
I thought Reddick was supposed to be an excellent defensive player? Didn't he even win a gold glove or two?
