Only if he outplays them. Also, Dekker can move to 3 instead of Brewer. If he's not better than those guys he won't take any of their minutes away.
If he's any good at all, he would be about 80 million better off as of next summer. All he had to do was play and show his value. The only conceivable reason for the holdout is that he wanted more years because he didn't trust his back/ability to show that he can still play. 7 footers that can play are getting around 15-20 million lately. Next summer they'll get more. This is just about the worst contract negotiation I've seen in my life and not just in basketball. A fail on every single level. If BJ was trying to harm D-Mo he couldn't have done a better job of it.
I hope we match, I hope DMo is / stays healthy, I hope he can make good contributions like he used to, I hope no one has any hard feelings over the whole saga. We can really use him to strengthen our front court.
What? Morey was offering him a contract where Rox coutd cut him after 1st year and make him a UFA, so as to free up capspace, from Day 1. What are you trying to say? We've been talking about a 1yr only guarantee with 2nd yr not, for 5 months. Meaning he becomes UFA if cut. DMo didn't sign it and held out for more guaranteed money, that he just simply didn't get. What he achieved was no trade power for the Summer. That's all. @Batman Jones Am I taking crazy pills, or did everyone in all the DMo threads know Morey was offering a 2nd Year out for the team. Why is DD saying this is sly of BJ/DMo to have worked into this offer sheet.
You're asking why DD said something? Maybe you are taking crazy pills. Otherwise, of course you're right. And it was public knowledge and all over every one of these threads. DD was trying to make D-Mo look sly (with the desired side effect of making Morey look wrong - it's his hobby). But this theory was a new level of ridiculous for sure. There is literally no way to make sense of it. What I don't get is why you're surprised by it. 100K posts is a pretty good sample.
Contracting 101, featuring Donatas Motiejuenas and BJ Armstrong: - Okay, the Rockets are offering us $8 million guaranteed for a couple of years...pass. You had a good season before you injured your back and your trade value plummeted to the point that the Pistons voided you. You deserve MUCH better. - Okay, now they're offering a $4.4 QO. You haven't received any other offers and this would give you a chance to become acclimated with the new team, stay on the roster for the whole season, try to prove yourself, and let the chips fall where they may. Hey, maybe another team will be impressed with you and you can receive a huge contract in the offseason!! Eh, on second thought..pass. - Okay, the season is underway..the Rockets are finding their identity..these Capela, Harrell, and Dekker guys look sort of promising..but you're a vet so you can come in and show them up...oh and good news, the Rockets are offering $7 million, with incentives that could get us back up to that $8 million number!!! You haven't received any other offers, so wow! But you know what? We should hold out... - Okay, we're well into the season and the Rockets are on fire. The new guys are balling out and your value to Houston is evaporating quickly. Let's field some offers....oh, the Nets want to give you a deal where they can cut you after only a month and $5m...unless you really show something in a month's time, your career could be severely damaged. Let's do it!!! And the Rockets (who already have a logjam of talent) may match!! Woo! Idk if these decisions were led primarily by Dmo or BJ, but someone screwed up big time. I can't imagine a worse scenario for a player.
Wouldn't you say the same about Cleveland and OKC? IIRC we were in those games until the final minute or so. If you're going to mention the close games we won it seems only fair to list the close games we lost. If we could easily be at .500 (without doing any math) we could at least as easily be at .750.
Needless to say it is important to know what's left in the tank for him and what his end game will be. If the best season of his was under McHale and when he replaced Dwight partly then it is not wise to give him multiple years. It is not even about the money now obviously the whole NBA seems to be fine throwing it at any players. I think he won't get enough time, he is probably getting, let's say, one year or so to prove himself. He will still get paid but playing time is equally relevant for him and his reps. And who is to say this lengthy and messy contract situation will not mess with his head?
Today and during months leading to now, DMo repeated multiple times that he's doing his job and lets agent do agent's job. I interpret it as DMo working out with a private coach doing rehab and focusing on basketball while everything contract was up to BJ Armstrong.
seems like Sean marks is a really classic GM to unprovened players. A win win offer to both Morey and DMo.
It's a win for Marks and Morey, not sure about DMo though. When Morey matches - he gets a win because it's the most Morey contract ever, a contract Morey could only dream of putting up himself. A win for Marks, because he has literally NOTHING to lose here and only improve his image around the league and players as a friendly GM. Nets were under salary floor and they gave DMo what they were gonna have to spend anyway to reach the floor. While DMo gonna be stuck with the Rockets on a medium unguaranteed salary for the next 4 years with Morey having ability to release DMo at almost any time (technically not, but you know what I mean).
Yes, what I am saying though is that he will not be under team control and tradeable as a team option contract if the team does not extend his deal on March 1st. It seems this is a contract more about DMo choosing his team and not being traded - more than anything else. DD
Haha thank you sir. For our sake, I hope Dmo plays well. At the end of the day, he's still getting paid 5 million dollars to sign a sheet of paper. I can't say I don't envy him. But if the terms of the contract are accurate as reported and he has a disappointing start, Nets/Rockets could cut him on January 10 and who knows if he would get another NBA contract anytime soon. There's a ton of pressure on him to perform.
