Do you know how I know Trump has a mandate? Because he has a Republican House and Republican Senate. Thats the real mandate. All the rest is just blah blah blah....
Actually it isn't, the Repubs lost seats this election cycle - there is no mandate, that is stupid and ignorant, to think losing the popular election is any sort of mandate. What happened was a rage against government - both sides....people voted with their wallets, too bad they elected a con man who is about to send us into a recession, and cause inflation across the board. Biggest lie ever is getting the rural poor folks to vote against their own best interests..... DD
Sure they lost seats, but they still have a majority in both houses, something the people only felt comfortable giving Obama for 2 years....so yeah, it IS a mandate, but like with Obama, it doesn't mean it'll last long.
The republicans will also soon have the Supreme Court! It's understandable why the liberals are so defensive in this thread. I'm lol'ing my ass off.
Is this any different than getting urban poor folks to vote against their own best interest? I think not.
No, it certainly is not, getting any poor person to vote against national healthcare is an amazing con job. DD
What a fantasy land we live in. Obamacare was a dead man walking. We are not getting national healthcare anytime soon. If Hillary won, nothing would get accomplished with healthcare as the Republicans would not work with her. Premiums would rise and everyone would suffer.
Probably similar to what would have happened if it decided to not vote for Obama or any other person that won the presidential election.
So if Trump loses the electoral college on Dec 12th to Clinton - then you won't complain because hey - Clinton won where it mattered.
That's a different story entirely. Like it or not, Trump won those electors, if they decide to mutiny, it would be similar to the commissioner coming out and declaring the Panthers the victor of Super Bowl 50. Technically both things could happen, but neither would be fair and both would cause serious negative repercussions.
Actually they are more like judges of a contest. And while the technical score is one thing, they can adjust based on other traits not measured. The very reason electors exist is so they could go against the population wishes in case the population made a stupid choice. They were meant to be the final approvers of a president. It's not mutiny, it's how our system was designed. It is the purpose of why the electoral college exists. It would be no less fair or hypocritical of a result than say - winning the state electoral votes but losing the national vote by 2.5 million votes.
Only you would want to set this dangerous precedent of disloyal electors in what is mostly an irrelevant election. Yes, the electors are suppose to bring some sort of sanity to uncertain times, not a pissing contest between two parties that represent the same elitists. Trump is not campaigning on restructuring our government and doing away with our constitution. This is what EC's are there to protect, not because Trump is ignoring those who want men to pee in ladies restrooms. The extreme left is becoming like the extreme religious right .... doing anything and everything to force their beliefs onto everyone else. And they are just as uneducated.
Not that I think it is going to happen, but I feel the need to point out that your rationale for the EC is wrong. Hamilton is quite clear in Federalist #68.
