D'Antoni seems like a Dmo fan. He would be the perfect stretch 4 and passer we need. Unlike Anderson Dmo can actually be a good low post positional defender and a viable offensive option.
We had one of the schedules to start the season and we're in 4th place at 11-7 without D-Mo. In the West only LAC, GSW, and SAS are outplaying us. The horror! That's compared to last year, which turned out to be our worst squad in recent memory. Yeah, DM really sucked this offseason, huh? And you want him fired if he lets a 6 and 3 role player go. Maybe it's your unusual affinity for white role players that never seem to amount to much. Maybe it's your constant insistence that DM is horrible at his job though by any measure he's damn good at it. But you're constantly complaining I condescend to you. When you make posts like this, everyone should condescend to you. We let Parsons go because the sheet he signed was designed to hamstring us and lock us into a position where we couldn't improve for the next two years. It was a tough call because he was a fan favorite and USED to be a much better player, but it was the right one. And though many doubted it then, none but you doubt it now. If you don't want people to call you stupid, stop making such (forgive me, there is not a better word) stupid posts.
Worth noting that Marks, Nets GM is same guy that offered Allen Crabbe (four years, $75 million) and Miami guard Tyler Johnson (four years, $50 million) that were both matched by their teams. Thus I am saying to be prepared for an inflated offer... maybe even more so than expected due to his previous failures at RFAs.
And so far not a single team has made a larger offer to D-Mo than Morey has, at least not officially or we'd know. When they do he will match if it's a reasonable deal and if it's a poison pill he'll let him go (if he can't get return in trade) and keep winning. You want him to match anything and everything (when his best year with us was 10 and 6, he averaged 8 and 4, and last year he gave us 6 and 3) like you did with Parsons. Thank GOD you are not anywhere near the front office.
Well that is what you get when you screw around and let the market set a price instead of taking care of your players and giving them a fair market offer. DD
How on earth is it that you're willing to give up Clint Capela in his rookie contract but Sam Dekker is untouchable to you? You think any team in the league wants Dekker more than Capela? I don't.
So it's not fair market to tinder an offer, have zero people have him sign an offer sheet, then nearly double your offer. Maybe Morey should quadruple it while no one's looking. Better move fast though. He's only been available since July(?). (I don't have the dates memorized.) Somebody's bound to snatch him up before we can raise our offer again and guarantee multiple years to a guy that no one knows can play anymore. Morey has been more than reasonable and more than patient. The league sets a RFA's value. Nobody even offered him a one-year 5 million dollar deal. They knew Morey would match on the possibility that he can be 14-15 D-Mo again though he's had major surgery since then. They know that he will match any reasonable offer. They will only make him an offer if they think Morey won't match and the only contract Morey won't match is a bad one or at least one that values a role player over the ability to improve the team, which he is trying to do every minute he's awake almost. You want him to not only match any contract; you want to raise the offer again though there's still no offer sheet. And your posts are all condescending to Morey, a man that is so much smarter about this stuff than you are it's silly. You act like you know better. And you ask why I give you a hard time. It's because you are a constant post machine and I don't remember the last quality post you made. You call for Morey's firing about an average of 5 times a day. And it's not just when things are going poorly, NO. It doesn't matter how things are going or even who the GM is. You always think you know better. And approximately zero people agree with you. You act as if it's Morey that's been holding out for months and not D-Mo. That flat out shows a total misunderstanding of RFA, of the job of the GM, of D-Mo's value, and positively everything about Morey since you've yet to post anything rational about him. And, yes, I know what comes next. A sarcastic post about how I just like "my pal, Morey," leaving out once again the fact that I was one of his biggest boosters for more than five years before I met him. I have always been a Morey booster because he's a great ****ing GM. He's even better at his job than you are bad at posting about basketball. (That's a lot.)
BMJ - let's see how this plays out and who wins the negotiation war, shall we? I am not condescending to Morey, nor do I think he is all that GREAT at this stuff, clearly your personal relationship is clouding your ability to critically think about him. It's cool, I protect my friends too. Ok, one more thing, MOREY could have upped his offer and they could have SIGNED a fair market deal, but he held firm, and now he will have to probably pay up, or lose a valuable asset - not good work if your JOB is to protect assets and the organization, is it? (Edit) Not going to get into it, thought better of my rude post to match yours....and erased it.....my bad. DD
You did exactly what I said you would do, even though I preempted your post with the searchable knowledge that I have been a vigorous Morey supporter since years before I met him. It's why I was so excited to meet him. Almost anyone on this board would be and most here respect him a lot. Especially after he built this year's roster. He has made D-Mo unnecessary. The negotiating war ended months ago when BJ/Dmo refused to take a reasonable offer. He had the option of taking 7 million with a team option. If he played well he would have gotten a HUGE contract, here or elsewhere, and he could have written his own ticket. He refused to do that. He negotiated this contract like it was going to be his last one and that gave every GM in the league pause. Whether he gets the deal he wants or not, that did not help him. And yeah sure we'll probably lose to Golden State but that's because pretty much everyone loses to GS. Nobody but basketballholic and bobbythegreat agree with you. Pretty much about anything but definitely about Dmo. Nice company you're keeping. You make an ass of yourself nearly every time you post in the GARM. I'm not going to make an ass out of myself by responding to each new stupid post. It's boring slapping you down all the time. Like giddyup in the old D&D you have an inexhaustible energy for holding to stupid positions and posting on them like it's your day job. I don't have the time for that, especially when your arguments are so flimsy. How's this? If Morey gets us deep into the playoffs you stay off the TV and off the site. You don't deserve to bandwagon the great team he's building.
Yes, it would be cool to meet him, for sure. That being said, if we were friends I would never say that here on the boards - ever. I still can't figure out why on earth you would say that? Seems it would be safer to just be pals and not let that out on here......no need, IMO. This is just silly, with all the contracts going around this year, and the money going out, he lowballed DMo, and then made some excuse about his back etc, just like he did about Landry and his knee to drive others away and keep the price low - it is savvy if it works, but it hasn't worked in years and not in the modern era - DMo and BJ had a strategy, that looks like it is going to work rather well, and let's see what happens, if he gets more guaranteed money and years, then there is not a SINGLE PERSON ON THE PLANET that would not do the same, that is a good strategy and they won (Assuming they get the offer if not, then you are 100% correct here and DM played it correctly) Personally, I think DM could have budged a little and paid DMo more than 7m that was reported and gotten DMo to sign a deal that made him tradeable as an asset - which is what I believe he should have done. I don't give two craps about who agrees with me, that is weak minded thinking - I cut my own course, you should know that by now, you do the same and it is one of the things I respect about you the most, please don't try this weak assed everyone agrees with me crap again that is weak sauce.....and you are way too intelligent to not know it. Yet, here you are protecting your wubby, when he looks like he once again is going to be held to the fire with probably a contract that is more than he wants to pay, and whose fault will that be? He could have DONE HIS JOB and negotiated in good faith and maybe we would not be here, and DMo would be tradeable, and helping this team on the court already......but you don't see that do you? NOPE - you only see one side. First, you aren't Charles in charge, about who gets to be a fan and who doesn't....I have been a Rockets fan since 1972-73 - can you say that? Doubt it. How's this - I will keep cheering for my Rockets, loving the team, and being critical when necessary - as it is important to hold people accountable for their actions and lately Morey has been MEH at best. 1. McHale signing 2. 20M to a role player like Anderson 3. 1st round pick for Lawson Just to name a few misses.... One thing you are right about, I post/care too damned much... DD
How? We tried to trade him when he had some value but Detroit didn't want him. What were you suppose to do? Morey tried to get him into a contract before Nov 23rd but couldn't do that. Is he suppose to sign a guy who might play a few games and be done as an NBA player??? Dmo is a highly skilled big man. If the Rockets thought his back wasn't an issue, they would have offered him a great contract. That should tell you something.
You negotiate and raise your offer a bit. Guarantee the 2nd year, find a medium that makes everyone happy. Do the GM thing and do it earlier so you have the flexibility you seek. DD
There is no negotiation. Rockets have their number which lets them keep their flexibility. DMO can take it for find an offer elsewhere.
No, that is not what I said, the MARKET is 20m you paid to Anderson - you negotiate and give a little we offered 7m, and no 2nd year guaranteed. Maybe you go to 10m for 2 years guaranteed and keep him off the market. Compromise..sometimes you have to do that for the good of the org, letting the league set the price is not always good, and no one believes Morey anymore, he said he would match any offer for Parsons, and Dallas called his bluff, so his credibility is shot in regards to matching offers. I guess we will see what New Jersey offers, that will be the market right? DD
